Update: to make this slightly faster, the 'circle of joy' can be accessed by simply clicking on the clip and typing cmd-R. That's the shortcut for the speed editor, which is what the circle of joy really is.
Thank you, this is such a life saver. And also thank you for making your video so concise and down to the point and not just beating around the bush for 10 minutes, it is much appreciated
You don't know how grateful I am for this video. I was syncing my podcast video and audio yesterday and it kept lining up at the beginning, but was off by almost 4 seconds by the end and I was almost ready to throw my laptop across the room and then I came across this tutorial. Thank you so much! You saved my laptop and my sanity.
OMG! I've been having this problem for over a year and couldn't find a quick way to fix it without buying a camera or waiting 30 min for a 5 min. video on Handbrake! You just made my life a dream again! thank you!
i've watched youtube for almost 8 years and i have never left a comment but i had to leave one on this video because you and the circle of joy have saved my life. thank you.
And again, back a year later to get the answer to the problem because I forgot again how to fix audio drift and your video again answered it perfectly! Thanks again!!! I'll be back, coz my memory's like that.
Thank you soo much for posting this my man! I've had this issue multiple times in Imovie and had no idea how to go about fixing the drift. This worked like a charm! Appreciate you!
So grateful that this video exists. So aggravated that this happens in iMovie in the first place. I don't know a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff, but that seems like a glaring flaw that should have been addressed in the software at some point? I don't understand how something like that happens.
It's stuff like this that caused me to fall in love with the internet. I was banging my head against a way for the past 2 hours trying to articulate this issue let alone figure out how to fix it. You solved it for me in less than 3 minutes. Thanks for helping out.
Thank you so much! I spent 12 hours editing a 2.5 hr video and the majority of that time was dealing with audio drift manually. Absolutely exhausting. You are a champion!
Circle of joy...I will never forget your expression. LOL! Thank you so much. Worked long and hard on a GarageBand audio edit of a music video, thought I had the 44.1 kHZ thing figured out and yet the audio was out of sync in iMovie. This brilliant (as the British say) solution made my week!
This is AMAZINGLY HELPFUL!! Ive been pulling my hair out trying to get live song recordings to remain synced to audio and now I have a new tool to try and sort it out. Thank you for sharing this man!
Thank you! I hate it when I cut up a video for my students and the commentators’ mouths don’t match up with their words. This enabled me to fix it easy!
THIS post saved me! Thank you so much. I was fighting with imovie to sync up the audio and video until I found your Circle of Joy. Indeed! Also, thanks for keeping it short and to the point.
omgggg THANK YOU SOO SOOO MUCH!!!!! I was so frustrated at first to find out why my audio wouldn't sync, especially after spending hours filming my video... your video saved the day!!!! thank youuuuuuu thank youuuuuu!!!!
I almost set my house on fire out of frustration with this 😭 Literally NO OTHER video or explanation I could find talked about “this” specific issue and you did. On behalf of everyone else in the comment section, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
lifesaver! I'd been making some drum cover videos and this problem had made me start to question my ability to play in time! thankfully It was not me and just iMovie. thanks for the quick and helpful solution!
Glad I finally found a solution for this, thank you! For musicians I do recommend changing the video speed instead of audio though, since my piano sounded out of tune when slowing it down..
Been doing RU-vid on and off for the past few years and i will always come back to THIS video and this video alone. Quick and easy and straight to the point! Thank you!
You have no idea how glad I am that you posted this video! Such a simple fix for a problem that EVERYONE else ends up suggesting you need ANOTHER tool to address (which generally means extra $$). Worked like a charm. THANK YOU!!!
Just have to add my thanks. Just starting video editing and ran into this with my first external audio track. Saved me lots of heartache! You are a prince among men!
This is so extremely helpful! You have made my day. I literally cried out of frustration the other day, and this just solved all of my problems. So thankful for your wisdom
Man, I really wish I'd seen this before yesterday, when I had to spend I don't know how many hours manually dropping random frames from a 1.5 hour video to get it to stay sync'd, because I didn't know how to do this (and I was in a time crunch, so I just plowed through it instead of stopping to search for a better way). My video didn't have clear sync points though, so knowing where to place the markers might have been problematic. I've never used markers before. If I have to do something similar again, I may have to play around a bit to figure out the best way, but this shows me that there is a solution!
Good on you for ploughing through though! There are so many times I've wasted more time trying to find a solution when I could have just got on and finished something
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This was bothering me for awhile, but now editing a 90min video and having the audio go out of sync every minute was killing me! I wasnt sure when you added the second set of markers, but I figured it out (Never used markers before) lol. Once again, worked like a charm. Thank you!
Words cannot express how happy I am that you made this video. Ive been trying to edit a video all day trying to fix this and im sitting here at 4am crying cause I just got it thank you
You absolute legend! This has irritated the hell out of me for years! I’ve even cut bits of video out before just so the stupid thing would line up! So greatful for this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! Worked with FCPX as well. You saved me. I spent so much time changing project frame rates and manually syncing. THANK YOU!!!
Like many others on this current video, I am exceeding grateful for the help. You deserve all the accolades you have received. I will cheers a glass to you, friend.
Thank you sooo much this tip is just what I was looking for! I was loosing my mind thinking I would have to keep adjusting the sound throughout every video I made!! You're a star thanks for sharing!
I've been making instrument videos for my band kids and this was SUPER helpful, I driving myself insane trying to line it up with the drifting bs. THANK YOU SIR
You are an absolute legend. This has saved me so much time because my old method of fixing this was so time consuming!! I'm too embarrassed to even explain what I did!
Wow. I've struggled with this for YEARS editing music performance video. It works, and of course the speed change doesn't effect the pitch of the audio! Thanks so much!
Short and simple - you are my hero! I was recording a short music video and somehow the video was not in sync with the audio anymore. Thank you for saving it! :)
Dude seriously, thank you... Funny enough iMovie on the Iphone does NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE... and so I was using my phone to do all my syncing... now I don't have to!
Thank you so much for this video! Saved my youtube videos!!! I thought I would have to go part by part and match the video to the audio 😅 The relief I feel right now...
After implementing this, has anyone had the issue of cutting up the project and noticing weird audio where the clips bump up next to each other? I seem to be getting some overlapping (where audio that was totally cut is now playing over the end) or the speed is changing slightly once the clips get cut down. Very odd and also quite a frustrating issue. That said, this fix is a LIFE SAVER.
I've been wondering what causes the audio drift in my music videos. Thank you for this video; very useful. I will try the speed adjustment method with my next attempt.
