In the early 13th century, an Empire of semi-nomadic horsemen exploded out of the Eastern Eurasian steppe. Within decades of its founding, the Mongol Empire had come to contain the majority of Asia within its borders. It's impossible to overstate the sheer scope of Mongol control; the empire and its immediate successors dominated much of Asia, including all of China, Central Asia, and the Middle East. The Mongols controlled the largest contiguous empire in history, and while it lasted for only a short while on the historical timescale, its influences were far-reaching. In this video, we discuss some of the impacts the Mongols had on the history of Eurasia and, indirectly, the world.
