Great great grandfather was a Prussian Calvary officer. Deserted and came to USA. Fought around the black sea apparently. My dad said he met him as a kid and the guy was kinda an asshole. Hmm not entirely agree, I mean the Imperial German Army was a good formidable army in its time (WW1), but the Wehrmacht was better (WW2). In many instances the Wehrmacht conquered more land in mere weeks then the German Imperial Army couldn't achieve in years. In WW1 the German army was bogged down for years in Belgium and a few small spots in France, whereas the Wehrmacht took Paris in 6 weeks and defeated the French army. Someting the German army of WW1 never achieved, not even close.

@@ItsShane79 Well but you need to know that tanks weren't invented yet. When the British got them they weren't even that fast. So the wermacht advanced so fast due to blitz-krieg. Also the numbers of Wermacht soldiers were so mutch larger. The army itself wasn't mutch better equipped tho so it was very similar to what they had in WW1. It's just that WW2 had Tanks, better guns and so on due to all the upgraded versions of WW1 inventions.

@@ItsShane79 It's a difficult question. While in WW1 the German army was arguably the best, they didn't have that tactical edge they had in WW2. However, Germany was better off materially in WW2 or more precisely it wasn't as outmached peoduction-wise. In WW2 Germany lacked every kind of resource and had to win quickly which they initially did. You see that in Barbarossa where the army has literally lost its fighting strength after 6 months. Nazi Germany would never have been able to fight on 2 fronts for four years and then come close to victory. But I guess the fact that the Third Reich was so short of everything only furthered the development of their successfull doctrine that caught everyone by surprise.

Ronnie Civella They won a lot in the good ol days. Frederick the Great for example, they always fought wars against bigger numbers which is why they were so good technologically at war. During WW1 they were stabbed in the back and without honor strangled by the Allies. WW2 they took on literally the whole world in nearly 4 fronts at some points. They were incredible for their action during these wars because of the odds and heroism. Despite being a small country they put up one hell of a fight.

In ww2 Germany had to station a million troops in occupying France, Belgium, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, whilst focussing their Air Force in Britain, whilst they invaded the USSR! Not to mention huge amounts of American aid kept the soviets afloat. By 1942 when Germany would have won by the summer after their defeat in winter due to the massive freeze, but by that time the British had opened a second front on top of all the previous mentioned. The USSR never faced Germany alone, if they did I’m willing to bet my life that Germany would have won in 1942, albeit with a massive cost.

The blitzkrieg changed the way war was waged in such a way that the americans had to wait, learn, and reorganize before they could deploy troops against the germans. In ww1 germans used to train their troops with live artillery hitting the field. Who else has done that? And yes their technology could be countered, but rather it was mostly just out produces. You got 1,300 of the best tanks on earth, the tiger tank, going against 20,000 plus shermans and 30,000 plus T-34s. They literally created squad and platoon tactics and were the first country ever to use infantry, armor, and artillery in coordination with eachother to set the stage for all future warfare AND they inventes mechanized infantry known as panzergrenadiers
