I haven't played the game for a year and probably won't be able to play until 2022, thank you for those battle reports because they are my only way to see some games
I agree in so far as it doesn’t put unnecessary constraints on people outside of batreps. It’s super easy for us to let RU-vid and reality blend occasionally, as we’ve seen with how social media has influenced people opinions of how we “should” paint
IMO the terrain was totally pro-Knights. There were 2 huge lanes that the knights could exploit, and the buildings weren't even close enough for infantry not to get shot to death when they were to advance. Also, the marines list had simply 0 anti-tank potential. Knights was like the worst possible enemy you could face... but even against some tanks, dreadnoughts, a Primarch... you would have a bad time.
@@johnfarscape I mean, you're wrong. Unless you have RR1 to both hit and wound, these low volume shots are insanely unreliable. Eradicators are good only when you apply every buff possible, as this batrep clearly showed.
I understand why you was bummed, keep it up Cullen I believe in you! It’s hard against knights, my first 6 game was against them and custodes because of my local meta, I lost my enthusiasm for the game for a time.. let’s just leave it at that.. So I know it’s not easy against them.
Space Marines lost a game. Don't see that very often against a faction that needs a new book. Guess that why you don't bring bolters to a cannon fight!
Narrative campaign idea. The War is a melting pot of a shitton of different factions But what keeps the narrative going is that the main character is an Inquisitor who can be in any army. So for example a Space Marine company can ”die” in one part just to be replaced by a bunch of knight for the next battle report.
Can somebody explain to me why at the Start the Devastors had Triple Exploding Sixes? First is the Normal ImpFist Exploding, and the second one could be from Bolter Drills right? What is the third one?
it was the base hit. so 6 for a hit and 2 more hits per dice, for a total of 18 hits on six sixes, and than the rest of normal hits... I suppose, i didnt count it just used bolter drill in a game and it did something simmilar..
Cullen, are you sure this game is for you? You always seem so pained when you’re playing. Wouldn’t it be better to play something less anxiety-inducing?
At this point having watched a bunch of his games I'm starting to think that Cullen sabotages himself to minimize responsibility for loses. I think the game might be a bit stressful for him.
Man what a game for the knights, never thought I'd see them come out so on top, but I guess when you play length wise, don't have your castellen blow up turn 2 from Eradicators deep striking, and get some massive rolls from the Volcano Lance, it's not to be unexpected
@@WardenOfTerra it's more along the lines that knights can't win the objective game that is 9th, and killing doesn't mean winning anymore, especially when you can get 10 cp off killing one knight
It's just Leadbelcher, washed with Nuln Oil and highlighted with Storm host Silver (I think that's the paint name, the newer white topped bright silver)
Great content as always. It seems that the dice rolls have been very hot and cold lately, which makes for some entertaining reactions. Also, I simply cannot be the only one who wants to tackle Cullen and cut his hair.
Gotta say, I love Lordan Lordane - the naming was so funny when you rolled it edit (spoiler alert) 30:55 noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Cullen you really need to magnetise your inceptors and devastators so you can bring the appropriate weapons. An almost entirely small arms force vs knights. What were you thinking
My inceptor are Dark Imperium ones so no plasma weapon options and I have more Devs to paint. Also i made the list not knowing what I was playing against. But I plan on painting up some more anti armour soon after this game
@@cullenp4990 No problem. The Crimson Fists are my favorite chapter. I want to post some Warhammer vids on my channel soon. Right now I am playing Pool of Radiance. A fun old DOS computer game.
So... can I just say the terrain looks absolutely atrociously bad for the marines? All the ruins that can block LoS are super far back, and all the objectives are extremely open. SM literally can't get out to score objectives without being lit up.
Bolter Defenses is at the start of the movement phase, not game, isnt it? It lasts until they leave but you dont do it at the start before turn order for sure.
A list without av against a knight list ... unsurprising result :S Suggestions for Cullen: drop one squad of intercessors and make the list a patrol: 2x devs, 2x eradicators, 2x inceptors; keep the chaplain for +1 to wound for devs.
Yea, didn't know I was up against Knight's and this is just what I have painted up currently. Definitely going to have to paint up another eridcator squad when I get the chance!
@@Greatkingrat88 I see I was missing the dmg profile of the weapon. Didn't quite catch that every hit is 3d3 dmg. So yea there was no chance of surviving this thx mate! Edit: still the shrug could help although very unlikely. But isn't the rolling against the odds what makes this game so interesting for all of us :D
I understand the idea of high volume shooting but woth Toughness 8 knights, its just not a good idea. Should have brought a few more weapons with some punch.
Shouldn't Inceptors be called Interceptors? Ie they intercept with their jet packs? I've looked up incept in google and it means 'graduate from a university with an academic degree' apparently...
Can someone explain to me why, seemingly in all the battle reports I've watched, players spend a long time thinking of their placement but then never choose not to advance out of their superior positioning when they get first turn? New to the game. Thank you.
Positioning and deployment makes or breaks some games. Advancing loses you better shooting, if shooting at all, and the less units your opponent has to push you off objectives and take objectives with, the better
@@Jerry2die4 So following that logic, shouldn't the astartes player perhaps held back his line? @MWG Josh 's comment makes sense but I'm thinking if he kills enough of the knights, with the secondaries he chose he can, I assume, afford to hold back and get victory points like that? Furthermore the knight's guy gets point for killing more models so denying him those points might have been worth it? Not saying the astartes player shouldn't go for objectives after the first turn but maybe, hypothetically having downed one or two knights that would make things easier afterwards?
Maybe this applies less here because I realize there is cover all along the way to the objectives. In other games though it seems players are very quick to abandon cover altogether.
That’s some tragic rolling from Cullen there.... I’m surprised he agreed to play against knights with a infantry based anti-infantry army. I know I really beat down on josh a lot but does he actually enjoy playing these armies? Unkillable shield captains on jet bikes, Knight armies (which are ridiculous to begin with), armies of scions with their AP-3 standard weapons, entirely monster armies in AOS. I’ve got to ask but is Josh ‘that guy that only plays the over powered armies?’
By the sound of Josh's voice through this video, it doesn't appear that he's having fun. Though it doesn't seem to be because of the list he brought. The "that guy" you're describing doesn't exist. Just because you cant afford the models you want to play with, doesn't mean the people who can are "that guy" waac players. Are you going to call me "that guy" when I show up to game w 60deathwing terminators that I've owned for over a decade, and played in every edition since 2nd, just because it happens to be the current hotness? Stop trying to shame people for playing what they want to play, because you just sound like a child complaining that ya didn't get a trophy for losing. The guy that worked hard to afford his models, is just going to think you're a lazy baby. It's not ever going to look good when you complain that other people have nicer toys than you. Instead, you can increase your own level of participation, by buying a new model to stay relevant on the battlefield.
@@francoismarion-eu3jq for the record I have a Chaos Knights army (which I won’t play). Also almost 12k points of black legion dating back to 2nd Ed myself. I’ve been playing since 1994 at the tender age of 8. And my comment is about the fact Josh only seems to play large model armies, which in my personal experience aren’t much fun to play with or against. I have no issue with the fact that he plays those armies or lists, that’s his choice, but of all the team he is the only one who regularly plays these armies. Select a target with anything from his armies list and delete the target. His armies (barring the scions) are all low model counts. And the scions lists are all AP-3 or better weaponry. Of all the team I’d say he plays the power builds. EDIT: the armies he plays are the issue I suppose, not really the lists. The only games I’ve seen him struggle in with these armies are when the dice really REALLY turn against him. To date I think I’ve seen his Scions lose once only, his sons of behemat lose once, his beastclaw raiders I think I’ve seen lose once... maybe twice. His custodes I’ve seen lose multiple times. But the shield captain on jet bike build he uses has been taken off a table once. And that was to stacked out Flyrant with damage 4 monstrous scything talons...
@@jamesruskin992 idc what ya own or how long you've been playing, my previous comment still stands. I dont play meta, and I haven't lost a game since 2004 and I play almost every weekend with all commers lists, and I take any challenger. Stop complaining about what toys other people want to buy and play with, and make yourself a better list. 12k in black legion? Nice, but the 8k I have in just deathwing alone is gonna get ya to point your finger and cry foul, let alone the other 30k pts in da. The point of that last comment being... I'm gonna show up with shit people are not expecting, in combinations they've never heard of, with models they've only seen on the internet. I prefer to show up blind, not knowing what faction you're even playing. Ya start complaining about all the rapier batteries a brought, I'm just gonna laugh at ya and point cause your just actin like a baby.
@@francoismarion-eu3jq now you’re taking my comments personally, I’m beginning to see a troll. Just so you know that’s what I currently own. I’ve owned a lot of different armies over the years, chaos is the only faction I’ve continuously collected. There’s only one race I’ve never owned in 40k and that’s tau. As I stated it’s entirely his choice what he plays. And it’s not about the winning to me either... yet you seem to think it is. Maybe you’re ‘that guy’ in your FLGS... It’s not about the list you build if your entire codex is T7/8 then it doesn’t matter how you build it... it’s all gona be T7/8. That’s where my observations come in, Josh definitely plays more meta than most other creators on MWG. EDIT: if you play spam you ARE ‘That guy’. EDIT2: I’m welcomed to comment and criticise, that’s what content creators want from their followers, my comments stand. The fact that you have chosen to engage with me over this tells me it’s personal to you. Has someone said the same to you per chance?
@@jamesruskin992 no, idc what you say, I haven't taken anything personally because you haven't been close to the mark on anything. Idc what you own ir have owned, I've also had more armies than I do now so what? My point was not to have a dick waving contest, but that if I come with what I want to play, from my collection, then you're not likely to be prepared for my jonmeta madness. That if you want to cry about what people are bringing to the table, then you're a baby and your attitude should be criticized. Why do I have such a massive collection? 40k is generally an arms race between friends and local competitors. Dont cry and whine if you're getting your ass beat, go buy a forgeworld something or another. Buckle down and get a second unit of some codex badassery. Change what you're doing by not filling your points with named characters. Pick up a few hours at work, and get your models like an adult. It's a shit perspective to complain about what others are bringing to the table, and thus perspective you hold should be ok kept out of our hobby and clubs, it should be scorned. I dont care if you're new, and have a small collection. That's fine, but before you go complaining you're always loosing, you should make a purchase and try something new. You should play up, not try to get other people to play down, that's wrong.
Its a Dreadnought and not a Venrobal Dreadnought. There is a diffrence, easyiest way to spot it is that the normal dread has to pipes and the ven.dread has 4 in the back!
We often play them interchangeably here as it's so similar. I do have a vendred model in the painting queue though. Just figured it was easy to call a normal dread venerable then a ven dred normal if I needed to shave a few points off the list
As they said above, it would have only been - 1 not - 3 per shot but I did forget the FNP. I really don't think it made a difference as he was getting murdered by that shot either way though
@@MrLegendarySaiyan well don't worry because I just messed that comment up and had to edit it. I DID forget the FNP, so you are right I am wrong 😅 sorry for the confusion, dyslexia and typing on phones are a fun combo
@Dylan Lewis dont fret, twice as many people seem to agree with you, than those that dont. And it is hard listening to someone with a neckbeard, sounding like they never finished puberty. "Cringy" was being nice, good on you man, dont let fascists try to make you feel bad about exercising your free speech.
@@Greatkingrat88 what a silly question/assumption, that anyone came to this channel to be negative... does it matter if the guy has been part of the cast for years? No it doesn't change people's opinion on whether or not the guy is "cringy", nor should it dictate whether people voice their opinion on it. Maybe, the channel wants to hear why this video got 20 dislikes, or why this video has a lower than average number of views compared to their other videos. Maybe they want to know that their audience doesn't care for this type of show. Maybe they already know, which is why the guy is rarely on. I'm not really sure, but thats why you shouldn't try to stifle the free speech of others, because when ya do, you also deny people that want to hear it. I didn't turn off the video because he's a shitty player, I turned it off because I cant listen to some squeaky voiced 13yr old, just like I turned off a video from another channel where a guy was slurping a bowl of soup during the batrep. Most people want to listen to a sultry voice like Josh has, and dont turn on things to listen to like boys going through puberty, or people slurping food, chewing with their mouth open, and talking with food in their mouths. If the video is unpleasant to listen to, then perhaps the channel wants to know that. You're not helping anyone with your weak ass attempt to shame people for the free exercise of speech.
it´s not a good idea to play a surprise game at 40k. nobody who wants some fun does that. this was a boring game and not a good advertisment for 40k. who wants to get slaughtered like that? why are u guys doing showgames in this manner? 40k 9th is a highly unbalanced game with a very small fun factor at all...but u took it to another level with the idea of not knowing which faction your playing against.
Not a good idea to play a surprise game? Wtf are you talking about?!?! Every tournament game is played blind, and your goal is to make a list that will be good against anything you come across. Yes, all-commers lists are great, and the blind games are so much better than custom tailored lists. No, this wasn't a boring game, it a bad game because the space marine player brought a shit all-commers list. It's a great demonstration of what a shit all-commers list looks like, and how you'll get trounced when ya show up to a blind game with a crap list that's not designed go handle a wide variety of opponents.
@@francoismarion-eu3jq wtf are u talking about? this was not a tournament. cause no one would go with a knight list. it was supposed to be a fun game and should be entertaining to watch. I play wh40k for 35 years so u noob-wanna-be-tournament-kid don't tell me anything about it.
I do not like the attitude of the dude with glasses. I play knight a lot and they are tier 3. He plays space marine, its not a big deal to loose one game xD.
