This is what I've pictured and the binding explanation at the very end was helpful. I've had a very old daily that has given me fits with random caliper sticking every once in a great while. The fluid was very dirty so I flushed it, but the random problem persisted on one wheel. I seemed to trace the problem to the return bleed holes in the ABS and ended up aggressively back flushing with a syringe at several points.

I bought two of those tester pens from Amazon, two different brands. Then I took a new bottle of brake fluid, mixed half of it in a glass of water. I tested the mixed brake fluid and water and well as the pure brake fluid in the newly opened bottle. One of the tester pens reported both solutions as bad, the other reported both solutions as good. I returned both of them and bought some copper test strips instead.

Just replace the fluid every 3 years of you have ABS or 5 on regular systems, no need of pens or strips

I really like the the fact that your teaching (why) this damage is occurring and how to correct it. Thanks!

@@bbbindustries I also really like your guys oddly unnatural interaction because of the next thing i also like: artifically quick run down. its different, but its good info, fun, and fast.

I have 2018 chevy equinox with 80k KM on it last week i was driving 120mph and pressed the brakes hard the brakes weren't responding as a wanted, so I went to replace the brake fluid with Ravenol DOT 4 the cap has dot 3 written on it but Ravenol DOT 4 have 271c dry and 169c wet boiling point and man even the brake pedal feeling changed. we have also 2012 Sonata Hybrid with 140km on it that we didn't do a brake flush on the ABS died and it won't drive unless you replace the ABS and it costed 1800 us dollars to replace by the way the fluid was black.... I highly recommend spending 50$ as i did to replace and flush all the fluid from the system now the car stops faster, and brake pedal is much better now and the ABS will live longer..

Hi! Why are we not measuring copper content? What device is being used for measurement/failure in the video?

I would have to agree with Hellbents comment. Callipers often last the lifetime of a car. So a stupid recommendation to make , leaving break fluid that long. Not a very scientific experiment leaving open to air. How long break fluid lasts Can depend on what country you live in what area, Damp wet country compared to drier country, moisture in air differences.

You recommend flushing the brake fluid every time you change the calipers. Was that a accurate statement? Because for me, that would mean once every 20 years to never. Because I've never had to change a caliper in 13 years. They all work fine. I simply just never thought about it seriously. I've recently just become aware (by the manufacturer) that I should flush the brake fluid every 2 years. That sounds like overkill but ok. I have never change it in 14 years. My brakes still work excellent but after learning about how important it is to flush it on your video, I'm gonna get it done for the first time here shortly. Mine probably looks really dark for sure. I hope I don't cause damage to show up now just by flushing it after so long. You know like they say if you never flushed your transmission fluid in 20 years don't flush it. Just drive it til it cunks-out. Flushing it will probably just make your transmission worse.

Id say it depends on what your vehicle is and even where you live. If your in a work truck or heavy vehcile, ya every 2 or 3 years would be great. If your in a regular car thats not in bad condition every 4 or 5 years would be good. Like you said brakes work even after 14 years. Maybe a mechanic topped up the brake fluid when they did a brake pad change?

I buy old cars, and we know nobody changes their brake fluid, so I end up with the sticky calipers after 20 years. I've been tormented with a wildly random sticky caliper on my 28 year old daily that I bought at year 23, I even replaced the hose. His explanation at the very end about gunk not allowing the piston wedge seal to return is probably spot on. That and the fluid return bleeder hole likely getting plugged as that's non pressurized... I've resorted to taking a syringe and forcefully back flushing each segment to stir up the garbage before another flush and it seemed to help. At the moment I've got a brand spanking new caliper sticking on a newer car with clean fluid, so we start the troubleshooting over again

I am not sure how true this is, in my 40+ years of driving I have never ever had any issues with any of my vehicles braking systems when it came to brake fluid or anyone I have ever known and know has never had issues not having brake fluid flushing , usually by the time the brake fluid is getting very dark the lines are going and need to be replaced which also means the system will have to be bled , sure if you are driving say something like a big rig, hauling heavy weight and trailers using your brakes allot or have a race car doing average speeds of 100MPH and having to stop yes but the average person I am "doubting" that it needs to be done. yes check your fluids and brakes if you go to a place that gives you a huge list take the quote then go to a different place don't say anything and see what they say This next part is more of a rant then anything I think that it's a scare tactic that shops use, I took my 06 Lexus is 350 for an oil change, only asked for an oil change I went for a walk came back, the guy starts telling me my front brakes are really bad and that the backs needed to be replaced , I know the fronts are down to around 28% the rears were done two years ago and i had just checked them about a month ago , the person gives me a huge quote ( over 2000cad) (again I never asked for any of this) they also mentioned brake fluid flush ( another 50CAD) I asked him why he tells me it should be done pretty much every brake job, it's a shame because I used to always go to this same place they were excellent but the owner sold the place , the new owner who to me is thief . When the rear brakes were done they replaced the calipers and rotors, so the brake fluid was also done, I looked at my brake fluid which was clear. I used to do all my own work on my vehicles and well this car is to low and my back isnt the greatest so I need to take it in to get most things done and it's ridiculously expensive most places now two bit you to death

Ok, flush the system with software autodiag for ABS, ESP systems.
