I used to spend time with a light bar on Saturdays, but now every Monday I take time out to light candles, give him food, give him an offering, and talk with Elegba.
First And foremost Benbicion My brother thank you so much for these videos I truly appreciate it I have ocha Done for six years and I truly appreciate it and letting me would like to say that I follow all your videos and I truly enjoyed them very informative and you break it down a lot better than other people I have seen
Wow I love this video I just came across it and just woke up and this was on my phone this is amazing. It is speaking directly too I was just speaking with my friend about being initiated totally
No the person I paid ran off with the money. Come to find out she was a fake. No the person said didn’t come to pass. But not giving up I’m looking for a new Godfather/Godmother
The mistake I find people make is skipping over honoring their ancestors. Ancestral veneration should be done before honoring the Orishas. I personally never been initiated and probably never will because of the patriarchy in the religion. Elegua accepts my offerings.
I need some Guidance both my god fathers have Abandon me one doesn't answer my phone calls and the other has double crossed me over money! I don't know what to do!
Oriate I've spoken to one person but he says they were bad for me and best thing is to keep to myself! I have no one teaching me anything and don't know where to go
nubihotep I'm in the same situation ... my brother died ... somehow this elegua was given to me by accident ... I dont know how it ended up in my house ...my mom left religion ... she was scared off by her godparent wanting to be with her while being with his wife ... brother died ... and I inherited it ... I felt weird at first but now I feel guilt with gettin rid of it ... almost feels as if it belongs to me... I've gone throu some of the darkest times in my life is when I noticed upon cleaning out my room I had one ... in my house ... can someone help me I dont know if this is for me but I almost feel as if I would like to learn ... someone give me some advice as to it's just me and I started feeling as if I am not gonna hold on to this if I am not gonna practice ... but then again why would I practice if I never was introduced or brought in ...
Is it true that the only way to get your guerrero/elegua is in person? My guerrero and elegua were sent to me from Miami. Is this true? I took my elegua and guerrero to a babalawo near me and he confirmed that there were good. But, just today., another babalawo said, no way you can give the guerrero/elegua via mail. You got to be present. What's your opinion? Thanks!
nickxplayer it's preferable that it be in person. The moment on receives is a spiritual action. I do not mail Orisha, however, I recognize that sometimes, good priests have a legitimate reason for doing it this way, including not putting the extra cost of traveling on the godchild.
OMG, I just got my elegua., and your video was sooo helpful!! I keep wondering if I am doing the right thing.... In my house, nobody but me believes in Santeria. I am afraid to take my elegua home and my husband may throw it away. So, I have it at my office., I do attend to my elegua every monday with candle, bread, coffee and I googled, what I can say .... But, I just wish I could bring my elegua home... I have a question for you... I have my own office and I have my elegua under my desk but when I leave the office., I put my elegua inside a bookcase.... Is that ok? I cant place my elegua by the door at the office or my house... Can you give me an advice, if this is something its ok to do? help! Thanks and please educate people like myself more about how to care for elegua. Thank you.
Mariela Sanchez yes,the book case is fine. More importantly, have a talk with your husband about your spiritual and religious journey. Hopefully he will surprise you with positive feedback
Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. Please continue to educate people like myself. One question for you, I googled it but cant find the answer. Does Ogun and Osun "has" to be always with Elegua? Can I just have Elegua in the office and Ogun and Osun at my house? thank you!!!
Oriate Alafia and blessings... If I am a child of Ogun, does 1 have a mother Orisa as well? Do I need to be initiated to work with the Orisas? Last how can I bless or give Ase to my Elekes?
hayward hurst , yes , everyone has a mother and a father, but the second one isn't known until initiation. As far as 'working', one works with the Orishas one has received, and by work, I mean making offerings and making prayers. A non initiates prayers are for themselves and immediate family. Initiates/ priests work for others. If your ilekes were consecrated in a proper ritual, they really don't need recharging. But if you feel you must, your godparent can dip them in omiero for you.
Hello Midn1ght. of course, we'd prefer to help a person reconcile their disconnect before they decide to leave. However, if that is not possible, the answer depends on how far you've gone. If the only ritual item you have received is ileke, then there is nothing to do. Just stop going to your godparent's house... stop going to functions and events. There is very little obligation there. If you have Elegua or other Orisha, you'll have to decide if you still want to keep these for personal reverence (preferred scenario) despite no longer participating in the wider activities. If you decide not to keep them.. the only right course of action would be to return them to the priest that gave them to you.
it's the sam energy my friend. Esu Elebara is the name our ancestor gave to the energy of the crossroad. Esu got separated from Elegbara when our ancestor cross over to the west.
I do my sacrifice on saterday to elegbara. That is the day i have the most time. I have not been initiated into Ifa, but I do believe in the Ifa way of life. I am new to this but i love it. I have a statue of elegbara and redpalm oil. Like the vedio.
Sol Mer KaBa Akoma , thank you. I see the parallel with the Hermetic tradition, an undoubtedly, Eshu is most comparable to Mercury. But the Afro-Cuban tradition is not Astrological in nature, and Monday is Elegua's traditional day for us. The Yoruba use a 4 day week, making neither consistent with their view. Are you aware of any tradition that does honor Elegua on Wednesday? It would be interesting to know.
Ok ok lol i cant wait. My first question is on both sides of my family... my great grandmother and grandmothers had san martin de porres on there altars as well as behind there front doors. What would that saint represent. Majority of my family are christians now. And the others that would know have passed away.
hi. you can always reach me at caracolero@gmail.com. To your question, if your grand mothers were Catholic and practiced no other tradition, then the statues probably only represented saint Martin. IF they didn't invoke any African spirits at the altar, than none would come. Invocation is a big part of what we do. Saint Martin is a very popular saint in Latin America, and my family has always been devotees as well. IF you are looking for the Lukumi orisha that is associated with Saint Martin of Porres, I have seen Elegua referenced with him. However, my elders always used Nino de Atocha or San Antonio as a representation. I personally don't have any saint images with my orisha.
Is it true that Eshu and elegua is not the same? If I receive my elegua, can I call him Eshu too? Do I need to have a babalawo make me a Eshu? I am so confuse...
Mariela Sanchez in the Lukumi tradition, there is some distinction between the two. They are considered to different aspects of the same Spirit. I use the names interchangeably. Either Babalawo or santero can make Elegua so long as they know how.
Hey I'm new to your channel. I have a question , I'm not initiated into orishas but I have a friend currently in jail who's initiated and he asked for me to put a 7day Elegua candle for him, which I did. Would it be bad on him or me if I discontinue doing the ritual? Only because no one in my house believes in Santeria.
I'm sorry for your friends situation. you may discontinue. You can change for something less obvious like candies, but not necessarily. Most importantly, a family member should have gone for divination with a competent priest who would determine what is to be done in his absence. And he, of course should take this time to reflect and pray internally.
@Oriate I would like elegua to be my Warrior but my work schedule I have to be at work at 5:00 in the morning and I get home at 8:30 at night. I would like to know would it be disrespectful to alegua if I prayed to him when I get home and gave him his offerings when I? Got home at night. I'm about to put his statue up at my door and I would like to know if it's possible. What are all the Offerings that I'm supposed to give him. I know I'm supposed to give him coconuts. I know that I'm supposed to giveing candy and his candle and a cigars and his Palm oil but what else am I supposed to give him? I want to make sure that I give him everything that he would like. Thank you for your help
@@jalvarado6868he’s also a child or have childlike tendencies. He loves toys ie car toys, figurines, planes etc and he loves to eat junk food like a kid but fruits/red meat and rum/tequila is his fav as a man.
I have a question my mom was given elegua by our spiritual advisor. our spiritual advisor has passed away suddenly & my mom is 78 is it okay that I continue Monday rituals and offerings for my mom ?
Lisa Gutierrez normally, a person should have an Orisha before being able to handle those Orisha in any particular way. If you already have your warriors too, then absolutely yes. If you don't, I would still say yes, but limit to offerings you can make without actually touching Elegua. You should also consider receiving him.
Can i do offering to Ellegua once every 3 months or does it have to be once every monday? I haven't been iniated to IFA or Santeria but like that lifestyle and how the saints take care of us.
I received my warriors 18years ago. I lost contact with my godmother soon after because my family found out she was spreading rumors and making up lies just to get more readings! I never really practiced the faith except for the occasional Monday offering and would like to properly dispose of the warriors. How would you suggest I handle this? Thanks
Chris Carrion , if you are ready to be an active practitioner, the first step would be to be prayerful to Elegua, and your ancestors. Once you are comfortable, and are ready to belong to a community/ house, you find one usually by recommendation. Depending on what City you live in, you may have many or few options. Were you taught how to tend to your warriors?
Chris Carrion i see. There really isn't a protocol for that. If you personally know another practitioner, you can ask them if they'll take them and care for them. Unfortunately, there really is no set manner to dispose of Orisha ( not for the living at least. When someone passes away, we do have guidelines). You may also try going to a diviner to see get guidance from the Orisha.
