For newbies, a great tip I learned is; when you need to look in the mirrors or check your blindspots know why you are looking there. Don't make turning your head a mandatory chore but actually know why you are looking over your shoulder at certain times. Once you understand there is a reason to looking over your shoulder it becomes a necessity to your driving rather than a chore you have to remember to do.
@@raziphaz2219 u basically just gotta make sure there’s space and time for u to move and change lanes. Just make sure ur car doesn’t hit any person or other cars that u didn’t see
My driving test is today at 2:30pm and I hope to pass this first time. This video gave me some really useful tips that have calm down most of my jitters hahaha Update: I passed! 😋 Had 9 minor mistakes due to not exaggerating the fact I was scanning before making left and right turns. The guy is right here, DO exaggerate your head movements.
Thanks to your video! I passed my first California drive test with just 3 errors today. I recommend folks to remember this great tips especially SMOG technique
Tell yourself: "This is easy. I like it!" Let "Goldilocks" be your BFF. ("Just right." Not too fast. Not too slow.) At intersections, don't just "Scan. Scan. Scan." Look around like there are angry snipers lurking everywhere--like you are entering a war zone. Good luck.
Am going to my test today. Will come back and tell you how it went.I didn’t pass but I made a move that I wasn’t told to do. Always listen to instructions and don’t do maneuvers that you have not been told to do. I received a fail because the examiner intervened. I took a lane I wasn’t told to take. So make sure you listen listen and listen and ask questions before you make moves. Another thing I can recommend is drive around the dmv area so that you know the area well. All the lights, stop signs, lane changes and flow of traffic. That will help you on the day of your test. Apart from that mistake I was doing very well. It wasn’t that bad. Wish me luck on the other test. All the best loves! You can do it I have another test booked Second time round I passed with a perfect/excellent score! You can do it. It’s not that hard. My advice is take your time and learn how to drive so that you focus on your driving and not what the examiner is doing! That will give you confidence! The day of your test, be at a place of peace! Don’t panic! Do all the things that make you peaceful, listen to music, walk, watch a funny show. Relax and know it not difficult to pass!! All the best
I'm so glad this video thoroughly explains what to do and what not to do. I feel like I've gained more confidence and am ready for my driving test tomorrow. Thank you
I have my test tomorrow at 10AM and I’m having major panic attacks and crying my eyes out. This video is giving me really good tips but really bad anxiety Haha. Pray for me
I would like to say thanks for you guys for this great video. I just PASSED the test last Tuesday. It was a very good help. God bless you all! Sincerely Joe
I don’t live in California, but I still found this video to be super helpful. I’ve been watching tons of videos like this one to help prepare for my road test, but this is the best video out there.
i believe i know everything i need for the test, i have practiced and even did my instructing classes over winter break (i’m under 18), the only thing holding me back is the nerves. i take my test monday, great video.
Thank you so very much for this! As a visual learner, I loved your graphics. I have been searching for a legit and well explained video as this one that would clarify my driving needs, of course, being a non driver. I moved from NYC to a state where vehicles are a must and trust me it has been most difficult not knowing how to drive and own a vehicle. Glad I found this!
7 months already passed that I got my license. I forgot some information from the handbook, but I am remembering this video instructions every single day. I really recommend and I appreciated you guys! Sincerely Joe Aquino
Thanks for sharing this video. It sure helped me to understand how the instruction from examiner needs to be followed. Did my test today in the morning and passed on the first attempt. Some of my friends told me that they were penalized for using back camera. But they were wrong. In fact if you have back camera then use it along with the mirrors to do the curbside parking and reverse testing. I was anxious but tell you frankly the examiner was very nice and friendly. She talked for few minutes while I was going towards the main road to make me feel ease. Explained to me what is expected of me and how I should be following her instructions. Took about 20 minutes to complete the test. Test took place at Riverside DMV. Keep calm and be attentive - it should be all good.
Here in Windhoek, Namibia it is an immediate disqualification to look over your shoulder. It is considered taking your eyes off the road. The reasoning is that the Rearview Mirror is to observe traffic that might be coming from the back.
Here is southern California, it is enough to be disqualified if you do NOT consistently look over your shoulder when changing lanes, turning, etc. The four-steps in S.M.O.G., heavily illustrated and explained in my videos here, was taught to me by a California DMV Driver Safety Officer to pass along to my clients--typically 84 years of age. Mirrors, alone, alas, are just not sufficient, and failure to S.M.O.G. is a major cause of collisions. Even for entering a bike lane to make a proper right turn, we are directed to "Look over your right shoulder...." (page 51 of the 2019 California DMV Driver Handbook). Thanks for commenting and good luck Christy.
I just passed an hr a go thank you more likes from me. When you change lanes count 1 to 4. One. Inside mirror 2. Right or left mirror 3. Shoulder if safe 4. Smoothly turn your wheels .... The other point is whe you start at DMV please look traffic though your car was at Stop . Please check before start ...cheeers
awesome video. it goes further than just the normal things every other video says. it gives real insight. my test is 3 days from now. ive driven for so many years yet im still nervous. its weird.
I took a driving school lesson yesterday and today is my behind the wheels test at 2:00pm. My instructor sent me this video and after the lesson and watching this i feel so much confident to pass my 4th times behind the wheels test! Lol i know i already failed 3 times. So wish me luck guys!!!
Yes. But in California, our DMV Driver Handbook says to "check your rear view mirrors every 2 - 5 seconds so you know the position of vehicles near you." (Page 34, 2017 version.) If you are doing this, you're pretty much checking your mirror frequently. S.M.O.G. (Signal, Mirrors, Over shoulder check, Go if clear) was not our invention. It was taught to me by a California DMV Driver Safety Officer years ago. Good luck on your road test. Study YOUR venue's handbook, and drive accordingly.
I passed because of this video. Thank you very much! The time before I failed by like 35 errors somehow (think the instructor had it out for me) this time I only had 5 errors!
Helpful video, thanks. it isn't clear though how exam-taker is supposed to rotate his had left and right every 5 seconds to demonstrate to examiner mirrors check while driving 100km/h on a highway, doing so is a sure way to hit the obstacle in front.
My vid's intended audience was not the world. It was California. And that state's DMV says to check your mirrors every "2 to 5 seconds." That doesn't mean you stare at just one mirror that long. Good luck.
+Kanel Ishwor Let Goldilocks be your BFF--at least during your road test. (Google her, if you don't know about her and the "Three Bears" story.) Good luck.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to discover driving anxiety attacks try Skyarza Car Coping Star (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my colleague got great results with it.
Great info I am having my test on Monday. Super nervous, I have some mistakes to work in, also my driving school changed the car three times and I got two different instructors plus my husband and they all told me different things to do during the same maneuver. I don't even know what I'm doing wrong anymore.
Test tomorrow wish me luck! 9 am! took my first test and failed it and lost all motivation to take it again it’s been like two years this is my second try I’ve been driving a lot more hoping I can get it in 2 if at first you don’t succeed try, try again
Thanks for this video! Just one question: In the situation at 6:50, is it required to use the center lane when turning left out of a driveway? The first left turn out of my local DMV is a street like this (but only one lane on each side of the center). I was planning on doing what was shown in the video, but I just want to make sure.
For left turns, you may go immediately to any available lane in your new direction. That said, and if your examiner doesn't specify a particular lane, I believe best practices would be to turn left into the FIRST available lane in my new direction--and that would be the "special left turn lane" in the middle of the entire roadway. Then, S.M.O.G. each lane change to your right, one lane at a time, with separate S.M.O.G. procedures, until you are in the lane needed for your next maneuver per your examiner. Good luck. And thank you for liking my video.
mary Romero Consider lessons from different instructors. That way, you will be more comfortable with a complete stanger in the car giving instructions. Good luck.
Rock Kendall Thank you so much Rock Kendall! I will pass . I'm actually doing what you said.I go every Sunday to drive around the DMV I drive with different instructors (Family ) that way I don't have any surprises, when I do the real exam. I will comment if I Passed Next Month. Thanks again.😊
mary Romero No. State-licensed driving school instructors. Your stress level will be different than with family. In Los Angeles, I like ALLIED DRIVING SCHOOL. Good luck.
Where are you at? Here in Ontario you can turn right with red light as long as you don't interfere with traffic. I did so, but without performing a full stop first...
OMG I've never been told that rule of looking over you're shoulder , I've taken my driving licence in Europe, the instructor told me it's not safe to take you look from the street caus' you never know what's in front of you and I remember that at first lesson I used to the gear (yes we have the manual gear so you have to change it) and I couldn't control the wheel, so I would I have problem with controlling the wheel while look over the shoulder
Well. Yes. The key thing is, of course, to look where you are going, but that means looking "over your shoulder" just before a lane change or turn, especially a U-Turn. Good luck.
My problem is when I'm so busy scanning my surroundings, I miss what's in front of me :( And when I check my blind spot, I always drift. It's like I can't win at all.
I passed my test watching this video the date is 8-5-19 and yes this is still the case for the 2019 California driving test they will check your actions
I'm taking my test in a week but struggle in keeping a constant speed because I can't really get a feel of the position of the gas pedal, same with breaking, I stop from a good distance but the car is thrown forward from the moment I put my foot on the brake and jerks when it finally stops
