I would love to hear from you why you grow cut flowers or are going to grow cut flowers this year. 😊🥰❤🙏🏻 Happy New Year! 🥳🎉🎊 everyone.

I’ve gardened for many years, but with grandchildren moving in to my area, my focus is changing. This year I’ll be growing cut flowers to sell in a flower cart at the end of my driveway with my granddaughter. I’m excited about this new venture with her!

I can be outside in my garden from sun up until sun down! It never feels like work. It gives me a sense of wellbeing! I do my best thinking in the garden. This past year my thinking revolved around my mom who I lost in March. I will always be close to her in my garden. I don’t know if I can put into words what gardening gives to me. I don’t know about you but I rarely wear garden gloves. I love the feel of the dirt!😊. I always smile when I hear you talking to all the critters. I find myself talking to worms or bugs when I’ve uprooted them with my shovel. I apologize to them from wrecking their little space!! Or if a hummingbird comes to a nearby flower I have a little conversation with it letting it know I’m glad it visited! The wildlife, the flowers, the dirt, the sky, even rain, are all the things I love about gardening!🌸 Hahaha…..cry until you get what you want!!😂. Jason is such a good soul!!!❤️

You have a deep soul Crane. I am so glad Danielle introduced us to your channel. I have been gardening for many years and one of the joys is always trying something new and pushing the envelope. I am in zone 9, northern Calif so the envelope is easy to push. Because I recently retired I am free to do so much more ! I have been growing flowers for cutting as long as I've been gardening. I don't have room for a dedicated cut flower garden so they are grown in between other plants in the landscape . So much fun. I'm a plant collector too, so fitting things in can be a challenge. If something doesn't work I try something else !

Hi Kathy! I am glad we find each other. 😊🥰❤️ As a plant collector, we break so many landscaping rules to fit in our babies in the garden. Since I realized that we don’t have to follow the rules I have so much more fun planting. 🥰❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much for your sharing 🥹❤️🙏🏻

Hi. I have been retired for 2 years now. I agree, having more time for gardening sure is fun. Last year, I set up my first " White Picket Fence Flower Stand". What fun, and my neighbors loved it. I am now recovering from hip replacement surgery, so now I can get outside and do my fall clean-up jobs that I couldn't do before. It is so good to wirk in the garden again. I have learned a lot from your videos and Danielle's, too. This was a very excellent video, Crane. Thanks so much.
@karenholt9744

This video had so much helpful content! I especially had an ah ha moment about planting tulips in summer veggie beds. Your greenhouse is so lovely; I especially like the brick. My home is brick and I'm going to learn how to lay brick so I can make all kinds of planters and walls (arches if I get really good) and maybe a barbeque pit like the 1950s... well at least planters with a great height and width to sit on to garden as I get older and for the grandchildren to walk on. Anyway, I grow flowers for their beauty; I feel peace and God's beauty when I look at them. It's nice to share that beauty and peace with others (human and animal) too. Because gardens and gardeners change, I will speak for this moment. In the fall of 2020, I planted my first peony. I had avoided them because of their short bloom time. However, 3 things came together: I found out how relatively easy they were to plant and grow, I learned I could store buds for weeks (months?), and I found a Brand peony catalogue online that was from the year of my birth. Well, I got it into my head to collect all of the double bloom plants from that catalogue. They are sometimes very difficult to find and obtain, and so it's become more of a mission to save them. 😂Oh, and then this year I found another peony catalogue online by Gilbert H. Wild from the same year and it has 3x the amount of doubles in it, and only about 20 overlap with the previous list...😂😂 Now I have one each of about 50 older varieties and there's many more to go... Plaques with the names and dates of introduction are in front of them in my front yard. Perhaps one day people will walk through like a public garden? I'm retiring this year and am also thinking of selling the stems at Farmer's Markets or using them to support non-profit causes. You are welcome to pick your favorite peony root from my collection for free, but you have to give me at least 5 years. 😎
@cranerygardens

Wow!!! You have no ideas how much I love peonies. I cry over them once when I tree guys messed up tree peony. Thank you so much for sharing your gardening journey with me. I really enjoy reading it. I totally understand a gardener needs to learn so many things besides planting and caring. By the way, I can wait for peonies. Just kidding. I have to make more space first. 🥰❤️❤️❤️ 😊🥰❤️

Thanks for the inspirational video. Your photography is stunning! I grow cut flowers for so many reasons. I love the challenge, being out in nature and sharing with others. I live in the country so I have lots of space and incorporate many flowers into the landscape. Also, we have a huge garden with a gentle slope to the south where lots of annuals and perennials are grown. We had some huge trees removed last week and this week and I am spreading about 40 yards of beautiful wood chips in my garden pathways. I am located in zone 5a, in southern Wisconsin and right now it is snowing and the birds are eating hungrily. I hang out suet and bird cakes and have 2 heated bird baths. On January 1st, I started my lisianthus. I'm very excited about some new varieties such as Solo and Corelli Sugoi. What's fun about gardening is growing new varieties and I grow a huge variety by seed. My growlights are on the second floor and the basement. Since I am in a colder zone, I cannot start ranunculus and anemones until next month. Winter is easier for me when I think about spring blooms. I planted 2,836 tulips, 165 daffodils, 82 hyacinths, 26 allium, etc. this fall. There are many daffodils that naturalize from many years of planting them as well as some tulips, hyacinths and allium. I also have 1000's of grape hyacinths, scilla, puschkinia, chionodoxa, crocus, etc that bloom in the landscape and are great for early pollinators. Your videos make Friday even better! Thank you!

I don't understand azaleas yet either, but am inspired by Crane using them in those beautiful bouquets. One of my azaleas died, the other isn't really happy; I think it's because the former owners planted them facing south on a hill, although I'm not sure why the one decided to die as soon as I moved in... I'm hoping to one day plant some along my eastern white pine tree lines, but I'm working up to that! I think I'll need a diploma before attempting tea roses! 😆 I will look for Dalby.
