Impossibly Spectacular | Marqués de Riscal, A Luxury Collection Hotel

César Caicoya worked in partnership with legendary design architect Frank Gehry to bring his design to life in the Marqués de Riscal in Spain. While the two men's creative styles are quite dissimilar, the weaving of the free-form with the more rational makes for a striking design. Inspired by the vivid skirts worn by dancers all over the world, Gehry's initial design seemed impossible at first to Caicoya. "Impossible to build by traditional methods," anyway. The team used Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing to help plan and build with precision.
In the end, the building, made of titanium, sandstone, wood and glass, "is spectacular because of its impossible structure.""
