Good information. One thing that I found that helps me. If I press the ball to my palm with my fingers. I don't have to hold it with my thumb. The thumb hole will go against my thumb but, I can relax it so it will come out easier.

I try not to make that little loft part of my normal game but sometimes it helps to get it out a bit further like that is it not. like when the lanes are real wet. Maybe it is just slowing my ball down enough it hooks more IDK. But Sometimes I try to set the ball down closer to the arrows. But it is usually after several other moves have not helped me first.

@autodoson1

Yup, but what do you do for carry down? Seems to me that when I have lofted the ball a little more that I can by pass the burnt up fronts and get my ball into the pocked. It appears that you're talking about a tournamet shot but not the aspects of a 5 man league house league.

I literally have this exact problem. I always put it out too far with a bounce. I don't know if it's because I am not bending enough, or just not consciously thinking about releasing it lower? I suppose I have to video my approach/swing and figure it out. But this explains lower rev rates and lower speeds that I get into. My goal is to lay the ball down without the crash sound of ball against wood.
@adzer45

I had the same problem for a long time. I started moving my eyes much closer to the foul line during practice; that fixed it. I think my brain was trying to throw the ball to where my eyes were looking rather than rolling it over the target.
@jvmiller1995
@jvmiller1995 2 года назад
@@adzer45 Yes very good suggestion. I use to bowl off the dots. Most the time I look to the arrows of course I get it on the lane sooner. But I move my eyes back sometimes if I keep missing my mark. I think it helps our timing. Or at least changes it just a touch. The more versatile you are the better off you will be.

Interesting because when you lofted it, it over hooked..I would think that the ball can't hook in the air

hi JR quick question:when i loft the bowl it go a bit farther so i can play on low volume of oil, if i release it closer to my leg it make it hook more on the midlane. so i didnt understand why your bowl hooks more when u loft it?
@fishgutz4272
@fishgutz4272 3 года назад
Another option is to have a range of balls in your bag. This way, your approach and release doesn't have to change much, just change the ball. I'm not a scratch bowler. But I still find that on league night i can start with the Electrify but at some point, depending on how many lefties are on, i have to switch to my Astro Physix As oil gets pulled down. I used to use one stroke ball and a spare ball. Now I bring 6 balls. 😉😁

both technically. its to protect from nicks but can also give you the release you want

@@michaelgrimes6375 I don't know about the house you bowl at, but the house I bowl at shows your ball speed on the score monitor in the upper right hand corner.
@michaelgrimes6375
@michaelgrimes6375 4 года назад
@@mveach22 Ya, it has that, but it shows the ball speed down-lane. Depending on the path of the ball, how much friction the ball encounters, etc, that speed will vary quite a bit. I want to know what my ball speed is at release, so I can work on consistency, changing it, etc.
@joehoenig7596
@joehoenig7596 3 года назад
@@michaelgrimes6375 Most of the MPH ball speed indicators that you see on score monitors, have not been properly calibrated, first. Second, on PBA and PWBA TV and web-streaming shows, ball speed is measured off the bowler's hand, much closer to the foul line, unlike when we bowl, where the radar unit is all the way downlane--measuring ball speed AFTER the ball has already reacted to the friction of the lane surface and started to slow down. You will come close to a real ball speed number if you add 2.5-3 mph to the number displayed on the monitor. The most important and simplest way to work on consistent ball speed, is to ignore the accuracy of the displayed number, focusing only on whether that number--what ever it might be--is relatively consistent. So for example, if the displayed number says "10" and you know quite well that you roll your shots much faster than 10mph, focus instead on keeping your ball speeds in a range of 8-12 --2 mph less and 2 mph more.

I have this problem of lofting what tips do you have for me to lay down the ball ?
@khairulizwan5951
@khairulizwan5951 4 года назад
One thing that I do that helps me is to release the ball earlier. I found out that I used to release the ball quite late causing it to loft a little bit resulting in my rev rate and ball speed to suffer. So, I tried and practice to release the ball sooner and it worked quite well for me.
@allenthomas914
@allenthomas914 4 года назад
@@khairulizwan5951 you mean release it lower? I always tend to let it go high and I want to be able to kay the ball down not loft I loft it when the lanes are totally burnt
@khairulizwan5951
@khairulizwan5951 4 года назад
@@allenthomas914 the reason why you are lofting the ball high is because you are releasing the ball too late. Try to release the ball when your hand reached near your ankle and not when your hand already passed your ankle.

Thanks, JR. I guess that it doesn't help when I see guys like Mika lofting the ball way out there. But I guess he isn't playing a house shot when he does that.
@joehoenig7596
@joehoenig7596 3 года назад
When Mika bowled for many years in his native Finland, the lanes were drier, with less lane oil, which forced him to learn how to loft it in order to delay early ball hook.

My team mates call my release the ghost and/or phantom release. If you weren't watching me bowl you'd have no idea if I released the ball or not because it's so smooth you can't even hear the ball touch the surface of the lane.
