One thing I would like to see in a video is bag placement ... where you position the rifle on the bag. It seems like a lot of people just plop the rifle down or try to get the bag as close to magazine as possible or at the center of gravity. That doesn't really make sense to me. I think if you positioned the rifle as far back from the bag as possible then it should be more forgiving of movement from the shooter ... where the bag is as far forward as possible.
Well its gonna be different for every rifle. If rifle is far back on the bag you have to support the rear of the rifle. Depending on the position it will create a lot more movement in the rifle. Usually balanced on the bag is going to be the most stable
Forward bag works if you can brace your body. It’s like using a bipod then. Most times you can’t do that so you are supporting the rifle plus your body. If you move the rifle forward on the bag the rifle supports itself. Plus you can use the barricade to brace against such as Josh was doing with your support arm or even your firing elbow or chest depending. The more body contact you have and the less weight you are supporting the more stable you will be. Try it out.
GREAT VIDEO JOSH ... !!! BAGS DO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE ... !!!!!! I TOLD " JOE " AFTER WATCHING HIS VIDEO ...!!!!😡 THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE HIS SHIRT OFF TO WIPE AFTER SEEING YOU ... !!!!!!!😁 LOVE YOUR CHANNEL ... !!!!! DOUBLE G. HERE ... GARY ...!!!!
I purchased leather unfilled bags. Then buy walnut husk polish media, 25 lbs box at Harbour Freight. I stick a zip lock bag inside the shooting bag and slowly add fill until it is full. Seal the zip lock or use a zip tie to seal the plastic bag, making the media water resistant. Seal the fill hole. Spend more money on a quality shell, leather, and the bags will last a long time, vs paying for prefilled and shipping fees. My 2 cents, have a nice day. Nice video great tip for field plinksters.
I’ve got industrial sewing machines, I used to make messenger bags as a side hustle. Probably 6 years ago now I made a couple of shooting bags out of 1000d cordura, both are cubes, one is 7” and the other is 13”. Filled them full of beanbag chair beans. Probably have $10 total in materials, if that. I’ve made other shapes and sizes but I like these cubes the most. The only bag I’ve been wanting to buy is the tactical udder, I just can’t seem to wrap my head around that shape.
Do you think the light fill bags would be more effective if you removed some of the fill material? It seems they are so full the gun just sits on top of them verses actually nestling down into them...
I just got a 457 Varmint MTR. Is the Arca rail just screwed on the for end? Also what are you using for the comb riser? I know I'm going to be getting bags and this video helped immensely.
I have a Gamechanger OG....and also the SAP Solo sak. If I needed one bag to do it all....The Sap solo sak is the winner. EDIT: it is only 60 bucks as well.
Josh, I have a question not related to shooting bags. I installed some bolt shims in my MTR trying to eliminate my cold bore flyers. Bolt started to become tight to ejecting spent case. Usually, after 20 or so rounds. Since then, I've removed the shims due to no improvement with flyers and bolt tightening issue. Now my problem is after ejecting spent case and rechambering of new round, the firing pin doesn't reset, and I have to re-cock the bolt to shoot. Might you have an idea why this is happening? I've reached out to CZ and have not gotten a response. The cocking indicator was damaged in the reassembly of bolt, so I am unable to use it and I don't see replacements on their site. Any help would be appreciated!
