I used to struggle with this, so if you're starting out, listen to this man! THE BIGGEST THING IS visualization. Actively "seeing" or visualizing your fingers in the right place on the fretboard is the key. Literally closing your eyes and drawing your hand in your mind. If you can't think it, you can't do it. I use this technique anytime I'm trying to learn a new chord voicing. It all begins to get easier over time, but this is the most efficient way to do it. And to add a second level to it, start humming the sound of the chords as you play to get that ear to hand connection as well.

You can also get a variety of metronome videos on RU-vid instead of downloading an app. I prefer drum backing tracks instead for practice. My problem is not preparing for the next chord while I'm playing the current one. That's how I end up searching for the chord instead of playing it.
