Thanks a lot. I hope to be adding a few more new videos once I get more gear purchased, and more time to do so :)

Thank you for all of the informative videos you produce that are especially helpful to people new to fly fishing like me…I have learned a great deal watching them!! I have been using some small orange soccer cones that are about six inches in diameter as casting targets, but will also try your method as well. Keep the videos coming!!!

Thanks for those kind words. I am glad you found some of the videos useful. The cones are a good idea too...

Hey Simon! Always great to see your fly casting demonstrations! I usually use a couple of Frisbee discs (it's what I have), put them upside down on the grass and practise my casting. Your video has given me a few new ideas - thanks mate! 👍

That's fantastic to hear, thanks. I love the frisbee idea too, and will be taking a few of those out on the grass myself now!!

Simon my man! Why not float the line down instead of it rolling out (7:15 ish )?
@simongawesworth7812
@simongawesworth7812 Год назад
I prefer the line to turn over with speed and authority when accuracy casting at targets. That way the wind doesn't effect the accuracy at all. It also ensures the leader turns over dead straight, whereas when you float it down if there is any memory in the leader, the coils can slightly shorten your final cast. Hope that makes sense :)

An excellent tutorial video Simon. I attended some of the courses you ran with Alex in Devon and almost thirty years later I'm still picking brownies out of the East Lyn and sea trout out of the Teign using the snake roll and spey techniques you taught me! Where did those years go?

Thanks Duncan. SO good to hear from a former student, and especially that you are still enjoying your fly fishing. I have to say, sometimes I miss those simple days!!

Thank you. I am having 2 problems while practicing accuracy on the lawn. One, I can't see the fly. I have tried different colors - green, red, orange and yellow. Oddly, I don't have this problem when I cast over water. My second problem, could be causing some of the first problem, that is my hover is not well developed, yet. If anyone has any tips, ideas, and or suggestions, please respond. Thank you.

That's an interesting problem that I haven't come across before. Are you actually using a fly, or a lump of bright orange wool? There is no doubt that the slower travelling line speed of the "hover" really helps see the fly, so maybe a little more hover practice? For sure, grass is a terrible colour to see most wool colours against, but a big enough piece of bright orange wool usually helps...

@@simongawesworth7812 Thanks for the suggestions. I have been using yarn. I did find something that helps, WHITE yarn. It works better than any other color that I have tried. Now, to the park to work on hovering my yarn over my targets.

The reason you're struggling to describe precision in the opening segment of your video is because you're saying accuracy. Two different things. /edit Text doesn't carry tone and that my comment may seem critical. Actually, I found this video to be excellent and wished to be helpful in return.... 😅
