i used to be a fan but this behind the vertical stuff is not cool. there are dozens of studies showing its long term damage on the horse, physically and mentally. no thank you, will not be doing this method! i hope you don't do this all the time with the horse

Hi again MATT Showing this tip breaking it down and explaining it is one of the best I've seen. Not only are you a great trainer of horses but teacher of humans too lol. Surely would have been a time and frustrating saver back in the day when I could have used your kind of help. Thx for sharing especially for those who are working for changes now. Hoping all is going good for you in this New Year. Catcha next time.

I always find it so funny how people just bash on people that are million dollar riders and yet they are back yard riders that know nothing about what event there bashing on. You know there’s a really easy solution to this problem you all have with Matt is stop watching. Out of sight out of mind!! Matt is incredible rider and showman.

Don’t get me wrong Matt is one of my favorite riders, but just bc someone might be a million dollar rider that doesn’t mean everything they are doing is okay. You can’t say that just because they are a million dollar rider they do every perfect and don’t use abusive methods. And just bc someone “isn’t” a million dollar rider tat doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are talking about. Yes I love matt mills And yes his horse is a little over bent, BUT the thing is, is that this horse may be doing that by itself, sometimes it’s easier for horses to be over collected then on the vertical. That’s just something that comes from lack a of the horse being able to hold its head on its own due to lack of muscle, impulsion, and balance. so I’m not saying he uses rolkur as a training method. Matt’s a great rider and trainer.

First we are not backyard riders. I have trained and shown my own for years. It is odd how you just jump on us-how about you look at other forms of riding with top riders, then come back and tell us what you learned. The point is, riding is all about communicating to your horse and listening to what the horse is communicating back. It is NEVER about domination or forcing the horse to do what you WANT. Look at top riders like Beezie Madden, Laura Kraut and even Jessica Springsteen. Or look at riders like Stephan Peters or Charlotte Dujardin. Then we can talk.

In dressage this type of overbending is called rollkur and highly frowned upon! Most don’t show they do it in public!

This isn’t dressage

Not just in dressage, rollkur is just any forced hyperflexion of the neck no matter the discipline

Draw reins with a curb? And a stressed horse more overflexed than a Renaissance painting? What's not to love...

you wouldn't know a broke horse if it stepped on your toe. Thankfully, horses have come a long way since the renaissance era.....

@@loganfriedman4639 a horse being well-trained doesn't change the mechanics of a curb bit directly conflicting with the mechanics of a draw rein. It's simple math, I'm sorry that you can't understand that.

Way too overflexed!!! Draw reins too short!!!! THAT IS CRUEL!! I don't like this guy. Plus- dude! You are WAY TOO BIG FOR THIS HORSE. Get off and lose the draw reins! You are NOT training. You are forcing. Shame on you!!!😮

@@mattmillsreining1 I have ridden probably since before you were born. Trying to chastise me is out of line because you don't know me, but by putting your method on the internet, it leaves you open for criticism. You may believe you are training correctly, but dominating a horse by bending him to your will is not training with understanding and working with the horse and understanding what the horse can and WANTS to do for you out of respect and working with his natural talents. This video does none of this only forces him into doing it to stop the forced method. That is not training with communicating and understanding the natural gifts of each horse. For reference I refer you to "Ride Horses with Awareness and Feel" from the Dutch Olympians at Academy Bartels or any training article at Practical Horsemen. Riding is an art that merges the horse and rider's ability and talent. Doing things "My way" may get results, but using this type of reins is very dangerous and is not recommended because of safety to horse and rider. You should rethink using them in a video. I do know all about their use properly, but I also know what can happen if you don't. This is not something average riders should use-and I recommend you don't either...

@@mattmillsreining1 So I watched you tacking up Raven the Mustang and you said you wanted to use a shank aka a high ported bit. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT??? High ported bits are very severe to use on any horse much less a horse that is responsive in a snaffle! Was that funny when he tried to spit it out?? How would you feel with that painful bit in your mouth?? What warranted changing from a bit that is gentler (depending on its thickness and if it is straight or twisted) to a bit that is not used by any English rider for VERY good reason! The more I see of your videos, the less I like...
