Yanjaa, the IKEA Human Catalogue shares her mind palace technique. Perfect if you want to remember passwords, anniversaries or if you want your child to do well in studies via creative learning.
@@ohno-cz6jb Not just an Ikea ad, but she basically has the world record for best memory because she remembered an Ikea catalog. So, they used that backstory for a new front.
You make it sound so simple! I really appreciate that you are confident and yet not arrogant about this insane gift you have! You really have inspired me and convinced me that it's not so hard to have a better memory and for that, thank you so much! You are so amazing!
You do have to realize she is the best in the world at this. 2018 she beat her own world record in random images by memorizing 360 random images in 5 minutes. 5 min = 300 seconds. 360 images/300 seconds=0,8333 - that means she needs less than a second to create these creative journeys. That is freaking god like. Yet she and all the other participants in "Memory Games" say it's possible for anyone with a healthy mind to train this ability up. Maybe 10 seconds is actually realisitic (compared to less than a second).
Rote memory v. creative memory: I was in kindergarten and I decided, i would remember this moment. I built a pocket in my head and put my most recent memory that I was going to a Pokemon event to catch a "gift" jirachi. Still remember to this day RIP
I have a similar thing! I was in second grade and I was sitting in the bay window of my house, there was a flower in a pot growing next to me, and the sun was shining and warming my skin and I decided: I want to remember this day forever. That is so cool that you made a pocket in your memory. I have done things like that too. For example, I visualize a shelf in the left of my mind's eye and put big emotions and unwanted thoughts there. I see them and recognize them but I put them there to hang out and revisit them if they're still there when I have more capacity to deal with them. Most of them end up dissipating which is a lovely bonus! This type of visualization is helpful as well with PTSD/OCD for those who sadly suffer with unwanted thoughts. All the best!
people thought my memory was amazing back in the day that I could remember everyone phone number! I found out later that i never really remembered the numbers but remembered the paper they were written on! Basically if someone wrote their number down, even if I lost the paper immediately I would remember the number! I was not as good with remembering phone numbers that someone told me!
Read a book called "Moonwalking With Einstein" by Joshua Foer. This book really helped in my college days big time. In memorizing so many things. The memorization technique is called memory palace. And you will get used to it as you do it more.
Hi Yanjaa I recently watched a clip of your appearance on the Steve Harvey show. You mentioned reading a book on memory techniques.. Can you remember what that books title was and how I could get my hands on it. thanks all the way from South Africa.
Imagine yourself in a science lab with lots of diagrams or 3D displays of science stuff, like cells you see under a microscope or a construction of molecules. Idk. Good luck
you can convert any word into images easily, i suggest you check out 'Unlimited memory' from Kevin Horsley. Its really good and explains techniques really well. Thats how i learned the periodic table , backwards, forwards , every 3rd... doesnt matter... it's actually really easy.
That's been only seen once, and Scientifically proven almost impossible. Mind you I say almost. If you implement these memory techniques, you will be able to memorize the exact same things. See Moonwalking with Einstein.
@@paiger5025but that's not learning. Only memorization. Those techniques have 2500 years. In the last years psychologists proved that works. Before that may be didn't work haha.
I know you will never disclose them honestly like completely 😏😏😏bravo grl But ur memory is amazing If i had this memory as an indian must have cracked some competitive exams so easily 😂
She didn't make all those associations in 10 seconds...no one could. It would take minutes to do all that. She just had us take only 10 seconds to help illustrate how hard it can be to memorize by rote.
Yeah, I don't think she's saying the truth about what she thought during those 10 seconds. I think she's "merely" inventing that story as she talks, by visiting the place she was able to memorise perfectly without even thinking about it.
Memory competitors can memorize 52 cards in 15 seconds and they have to create 26 associations in 20 seconds or less so I definitely think it is possible because memory athletes train to come up with stories quickly through visualization speed drills
Really !! Who gives an F about remembering an IKEA pic or anything else that I don't much care about. Memory masters ?? I have my smartphone with google thank you very much.
She is using a catalogue as an illustration to engage us viewers into practice improving our memory and she goes on explaining how to memorise them. Your statement like “I don’t much care about” or “I have my smartphone” that is your own subjective opinion. Some people like to use Brain and not Smartphones
take 10 seconds to memorize .... *goes on to tell a story that 2 mins long where even the first (windows) part takes longer than 10secs just to tell it
@@teth. I have since read 2 books about techniques, and using techniques in Kevin Horsley's 'Unlimited Memory' I memorized the entire Periodic Table (as a Test to see if it actually works) and it worked perfectly. True the stories get long but you tell themin your mind , and if its not a competition , it doesnt matter how long it takes. So for me, next in line are all the capital cities and numbers after Pi.
