I saw Hol! live in a huge venue and from a sound quality perspective his tracks sounded better than 99% of anything I’d ever heard before. And I’ve been to hundreds of shows in different venues. Something about the comically distorted sub sounds super clean on giant speakers.
love that you covered this despite bro being butthurt about the last reaction lol, i actually like distorted ch 1 more but i gotta agree that the subtronics collab is the best on here. . I just feel like he’s getting caught up in the “live show” scene which is why hes pushing distortion/soft clipping and fakeouts the way he is, but it’s obv a con for a regular listener
Yeah i agree Every song kinda feels drawn out and repetitive because it’s meant for live shows Its always a 8-bar idea that just ends up looping over and over with a fake drop that doesn’t really work for casual listening like you said
I don't get Hol's style. Things like Detonate w/Eptic or Karate Chop were good. But the more releases come out, the less I begin to understand the difference between them.
He is less consistent I feel like but that is because he tries new things like you said. When I first found Hol! I was hyped. I turned on this new mix, heard two songs and went "yeah I don't get it anymorr" and turned it off lol
hurtbox is fire. hol! just needs to drop an actual project to get back into the game. shouldnt have dropped this mix, shouldve been an album or ep, especially with so many tunes from distorted chapter 1 still unreleased
I just feel like his songs are often forgettable. I think his music has a ton of potentially to be really catchy and simple like somewhere or the subtronics collab. Usually he just opts for monotone quarter notes, though The impact is usually there, but there's just not much substance with all the ideas being so similar Some of his tunes like the ones I mentioned earlier are GREAT though
Imo Hol's music has not changed enough in the past 2 or 3 years for me to remain interested. Its like the same template is used for every single song and it just gets old
@@caliberkat yeah I know but this one felt underwhelming. Only drops which got scrapped munched together, no order, no atmosphere. Vaultage feels like 1 big song/mixtape with a "story"
@@caliberkatVaultage by Space Laces is so so much better than this because it doesn't have a compilation feel to it. Each Vaultage Mix genuinely tells it's own unique story and has a lot of great switches.
Hol! Is a very talented producer capable of making great music but his reliance on soft clipping for impact lately has been turning me away from his sound. His older projects still bang, space cowboys with Ganon being my favorite. Space cowboys is very clean despite having a lot of sub. All I’m saying is his clipping style is good but he’s done it to the point of making a once unique sound very normal for him.
Hol! shit, his from greece and born in athens. I'm so glad we have a mainstream greek dubstep artist. Am saying all this because am also greek and born in Athens. I hope i can find him and meet him.
That was very underwhelming and disappointing, I know he’s capable of making much better projects. His debut album and Lost Boys EP are solid and are both worth going back to, but everything else just doesn’t do anything for me. I thought his distorted chapter 1 showcase was pretty decent, and god do I need that second to last ID.
