I have a 2020 and don't have an oil consumption issue, so I am running the oil that came with the car, Can't remember where I heard it, I think someone in a Supra forum mentioned the oil that came with the car is used by Toyota to prevent engine wear. Changing the oil to a different viscosity could cause premature engine wear. I can see why people with a 2021 might want to switch oils to eliminate the oil consumption issue though. Before I'd switch I would talk to Toyota and BMW to ensure the switch is OK. Who knows what's true too much misinformation out here.

One thing I've learned is if you read forums on which type of oil to use, you'll lose your freaking mind :P I got an A91 and getting ready to do it's first oil change with 1600 miles on it. I'm going with 0W20 for the first change but I might switch to 0W30 in the future. I live in south Texas so no need to run a 5w30.

@@sneakypete830 Not at all for your climate. You should be running a thicker oil and not a 0Winter...at the very least, run a 5W30. These BMW turbo engines shred oil viscosity just from the egine heat alone. Adding a hot climate is even worse...

@@wfujay3946 you're right. I got my W numbers backwards. 5w would perform better in hotter climates. Crazy how Toyota only has one oil spec.. every other car I've owned has that little chart for temps and acceptable oil types. I've had the car for almost a year now and only have 1600 miles on it 😃

LoL... well if you don't believe me you should trust what bmw recommend for the b58 engine after all they made the engine, and if for some reason you don't believe bmw you should just google what happens when you run thicker oil on an engine. Running a thicker oil will cause problems in the long run including prematurely wear.

It's actually not that surprising considering after multiple people have found that the tolerances are so tight on the b58. Honestly I wouldn't go past a 30 weight oil just due to the clearances.
