Bitoxic keeping the rubber mat intact and taping off the contact would have been the proper way and opened the option to rotate the mat once often used buttons start to malfunction. And going by the argumentation "it did not cost anything why treat it with respect" - why buy it in the first place and not spend the money on food?

Used your 47 ohm resistor trick from this video. I had to mod my old 80's computer to get composite out of it...it only had RGB, monochrome composite, and RF. For some reason no color composite, partly because it was a UK machine and had a pin designated on its DIN-8 connector for PAL composite but only gave a 5 volt signal instead (which seems to be common for the US version). So when I grabbed the signal off the pin from the video chip (well sub-chip, MC1733) and re-routed it to one of the unused DIN-8 pins, the picture was a bit washed out color wise. When I put the 47 ohm resistor in line, the color came out fully again. So that trick worked, thanks!

Though I also would have just used Kapton tape, another reversible alternative to nail polish would be pure rosin. I bought some rosin chunks and dissolved them in solvent (you could use straight isopropyl, a blend of isopropyl and ethyl alcohol, or just commercial flux remover), and I paint it onto etched PCBs to protect the copper from oxidizing. (The more rosin in the solvent, the thicker the coat, but longer drying time of course.) This would work as a removable insulator for the buttons, since pure rosin isn’t conductive and is not hygroscopic.

Also ordered on from eBay. It took four months to reach me, by far the longest anything has ever taken. It was so late, eBay refused to refund the sale. But it showed up anyway a month later. As for the generic TFT screen, is there any type of microcontroller to use with it, in case I want to plug in a raspberry pi, for example?

Hopefully the manufacturer takes note of the corrections.

-Maybe you could smake an AAA-cell mod, for increasing the overall lifespan of the device to more than the included battery-pack? :) -And modify the flash contents. Remove the double games, correctt he names and add missing games? :)

Why? This is not some unique battery, you get them at just about any electronics store for $4. That being said, the capacity of Li-Ion cell isn't particularly amazing. It's probably a 600-800mAh cell at 3.7V nominal voltage. 3*1.2V for NiMH comes out to 3.6V so damn close and 800-1000mAh of capacity.

This is no standardized battery form factor. It's a special thing, that might have had some popularity in the past, because it was in Nokia phones or such, but for sure you can't just easily get it just anywhere and the popularity for sure is decreasing. Actually I don't even know what' it's name is and where I could get one right now.

Nice! Have you checked it to see if it's possible to use real controllers with it? Thanks!

Why the blob over the chip? Great channel by the way

It's a super cheap way to manufacture ICs. They just bond the actual chip right onto the board and the blob protects the chip.
