I agree with what Remi says about learning concepts and ideas that can then be used and manipulated to fit anywhere. As a non-reading, ear player, my approach is to visualise scale and chord shapes, and then pick notes appropriately as I improvise.

You Tube is so fabulous! We can find our own Profs, for all of our unique music facets! 😀

Interesting, try to see the concept, that’s good, it feels like the thing that I don’t have, is the innate little kernel of melody that drives it all, how do I develop that?

I guess the main thing is just to be aware of it when you're learning and analysing music. It also helps the more you transcribe and learn because you start to notice common ideas that are used a lot by certain players or within certain playing styles. The more you learn the more you will notice these commonalities and variations of common themes and that will help reinforce these ideas in your playing.

At 12:13, you accidentally said Fm7(b5) but I know you meant F#-7(b5). I don't want anyone watching who doesn't know the theory to start calling it F-7b5. Love your work. Thanks for sharing man :)

Hey Remi what gauge of strings do you use? Great video, thanx

Hey Ian! It varies depending on the guitar and tunning. On a flat top acoustic like the one in this video I usually use 11s; on a gypsy jazz guitar I use 10s; on a Les Paul I use 10s; on a Strat or Tele I use 11s; on an archtop I use 11s. These would all be in standard tunning and if I tune down I'll usually go up in gauge 👍

@@Remi_Harris Thank you very much, I had noticed that some of the gypsy guitarist strings looked pretty loose. I've been playing strats all my life & use 10's. I had recently acquired a cheap gypsy guitar (they are practcally non existant over here in Belfast) and reckon the gauge on it is 12. So your very kind reply helps me a great deal. Thanx again, Ian PS: interesting you use 11's on Fender guitars but 10's of Gibson
