Hello
In Part II, I limit myself to Accented Double, a basic accent pattern notated after the titles.
I'm using this to:
Explore ideas in grooves, fills and solos around the kit
Cross voices (hi hat to snare, cymbals to toms, tom to snare, etc)
Play kick on the cymbal accents
Shuffle the beat and off beat, or at least the accent and non accent
Explore broken double patterns while crossing (i.e. in 7) - But getting secure in crossing doubles first is recommended.
I love playing the beats and off-beats with each hand consecutively, as opposed to the beats in one hand and the off-beats in the other because:
The centre of gravity is more balanced
Each hand plays dynamically
Each hand keeps refreshing
The left hand engages more including with kick unisons
The singles playing is also well-supported
Traditional grip makes playing the floor tom with the left hand easier. Beyond that, I feel that doubles led playing like this is well-suited for trad grip.
(I used to listen to a lot John Fishman in Phish, who would ghost the snare on every off beat 16th note (for example You Enjoy Myself from A Live One • You Enjoy Myself (Live... , though at that speed, it's a good challenge doing it this way and still keep them that quiet.)
