I appreciate your effort to demonstrate this modification. I have a new old stock (NOS) 4 gallon tank that I will eventually get around to installing on my 2012 XR650L, which appears to require a similar process. Rather than knock your efforts, I applaud you for taking the time to demonstrate this process. Thumbs up.
For a how to video this is pretty much uninformative. A few captions and most of the time spent watching your ratchet turn while the other hand holds a shaky camera. It is good that you've pointed out we need to pull the seat BEFORE the tank. WTF with all the WD40? You spay that on instead of cleaning parts? California model 2000 with oil separator. Looks like you need some side cover grommets and fork boots. Sorry, I just felt like I had to give you some... There might be some out there that find this guide is what they really needed. Keep on riding.
Lol, Yeah I’m going to buy a tripod. I use WD-40 for everything. I spray a whole can on my bike after every ride. I have fork boots on the way. What are the side cover grommets for?
@@TxCxx I just clean my bike. I met a guy who had some kind of spray by bel-ray, I think, that is for what you use wd-40 for. You spray it on to keep the dirt from sticking when you go in the dirt. I actually bought a bike from him and hated all the film all over it. I see it all over your hands while you're working. Slimy mess... to each his own I guess. I bought my 92 in feb of 92 and I've never had to coat it with gunk. I just can't see the benefit of laying those tank brackets in a pool of wd-40, especially if they are still dirty, or spraying down everything under the seat like that You have a grommet on the rear but not the front of the R side cover. You're just poking through the metal of the frame. It's gonna wear out the nub on the side cover. (that's what I thought I saw... could be wrong) Looks to be UFO side covers so not too cheap to replace. I'm a HATER of IMS tanks, but it's good you got a red one. IMS tanks... They don't fit up to the side covers like OEM or acerbis, they force the top edge of the side cover to bend in under the tank permanently warping them. (though at a glance, yours seemed to fit pretty good) Only one petcock. Holds about a gallon of gas below the petcocks level of pick up so you have gas but you can't ride. Acerbis is the tank of choice for me. Not IMS or Clarke. Two petcocks 230 miles per tank. With IMS you'll be sputtering before your out of gas wondering WTF, look inside and see, there's gas in there, you just can't access it. Check for yourself. My tank is the older acerbis from the 90's and is still good to go. A 5.8 tank like that kind of changes where you sit a bit cause it spreads your legs wide. So it's not for tight trails. Good for adventure bike or dualsport. Fork boots... Daystar or polisport. They are pliable unlike OEM. So you should have named the video; How I held my camera, shined a light and operated my tools with only 2 hands. Now that was a show of talent.
