In the very early years at the beginning, when Jerry Lee performed, it was just him, a bass player and a drummer. Incredible sound for a 3 man ensamble. It is really something special to hear and watch.
I know Elvis is considered the King of Rock n Roll but I put Jerry Lee Lewis on an equal level . That first Steve Allan performance of "Whole Lot of Shakin Goin' On" was a real door buster. That must of been something to witness first hand as it happened. Even today I watch that with a big grin and Im amazed. Thanks Jerry Lee. Rest in peace Killer.🎹
aint nobody ever gonna be as big as this man, and the day he dies will be one of the saddest days in history! just thank god he's still with us and still making good music!!!
This man has to be the most humble human being I've ever heard an he lived humble his home is near Graceland his son Jerry Lee 3rd does the tour....his daddy was by his side👥⭐❤🔥
Jerry Lee's has beautiful hair. Just like my late husband. He had beautiful hair like Jerry Lee's. I love Jerry Lee's music. God bless him with health and happiness. 🙏🥰🌵
When talking about Memphis and especially sun records, many many people forget that Roy Orbison was there next to Johnny cash, Jerry, Carl, and elvis. Roy Orbison released many singles in 1956 out of sun records. Had a very distinctive and amazing voice, also a great guitarist. He put rockabilly and early rock n roll style songs together before Johnny and elvis did. Roy, had that stand up bass slap before it was something people knew what that sound was. And the drums in his music came thundering loud. It's a shame how people don't mention Roy when it comes to rock n roll!
Don't forget Howling Wolf either. His picture is on display inside sun records. A big part of Sun's business was recording artists and selling the records to other companies. Wolf's records were sold to Chess records. Ike Turner was Sun's talent scout at the time.
JLL was the baddest and wildest Rock & Roll singer..."Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' on" are two of the greatest Rock & Roll songs and Jerry Lee Lewis is one of the best Rock & Roll singers, of all time...The biopic, "Great Balls of Fire", is a great movie, too.
Had the honor to meet Sam Phillips from sun records ...to talk about family in Alabama during the depression when all of the Phillips gone up north to find work .Sam Phillips said his family made it to Memphis before running out of money my dad made it to Cleveland Ohio ..thanks to Sam Phillips from sun records that gave the world rock and roll and Elvis Jerry Lee and the rest of the greats that rocked this world ..rest in peace to all of the originals artist from sun records...
Jerry Lee Lewis really captured the rebellious spirit of Rock N Roll. Was he the King, the father, the architect, who knows? All I know is he played a very important role in rock history and captured an attitude of the music like no one else could. There are so many people out there who have bashed him and talked poorly of him. They've focused on nothing but the negative. The scandals. Jerry Lee certainly wasn't perfect, but there seems to be a lot more to the story than people realize. When you have context, it becomes clear. Regardless of his past, this man is a musical genius!
Cool hearing Albert King's Personal Manager at the beginning of the clip! That song contains my favorite guitar solo of all times!!! Love the Killer too!!!
I'm an Elvis lover all the way and everyone that knows me knows it....but Jerry Lee is no less of a Rock Star. Period. Like Jerry Lee said when the picture was taken of all of them at Sun Studios, "I wondered why Elvis was at the piano...." nuff said really......
Jerry and Elvis were so different in every way...I never understood the rivalry........Elvis had a voice from the gods.........Jerry Lee had everything else........a drunk can outlive a dope addict............it's all amazing story now.
Jerry's talking voice is starting to sound more like a little bit of that Creole type of raspy southern kick that you'd find around Louisiana where he comes from. Usually he had a lighter southern drawl that was a little more playful, but its still great to see him looking good. He looks a little more like his mother now, back in the old days he was looking more like Elmo, his daddy.
I was back stage in Oklahoma City at a big country festival and Willie Hank jr with a lot more and Jerry Lee. Everyone else went to Willie’s trailer and talked and smoked but not Jerry Lee, he stayed alone in his. They gave Jerry a summons on stage and later he made a paper plane and sailed it out into the audience lol. And they let some old gal go in his trailer.
The first time John Lennon ever met Jerry Lee Lewis, he got on his knees and kissed Jerrys feet. And Jerry said "That's all right son, you can get up now"...How f**king cool is that? I would kiss his feet too. Nobody gets even close to The Killer when it comes to playing RnR.
I agree that he could've surpassed Elvis. Elvis had a slump of his own, and it was more of a depressed and reclusive sorta thing where he locked himself away like Howard Hughes and stopped appearing in public until he eventually came back with that tv special. All the while, Jerry Lee had several opportunities to bounce back... but he took his slump to the PUBLIC, and he was wildly ripping at the headlines in such a way that he could never get the main stream media to really adore him the same.
Hey low IQ idiot? No, he never could've surpassed the king. Elvis destroyed jerry Lee in soul depth and diversity. Jerry lee was a one trick pony in comparison. You'd know that if you didn't have a low IQ. Dummy
Never ceases to amaze me there 's so many "critics" here that must turn it into a competition. In the interview Jerry Lee admits Elvis was at Sun before he was. Those of you who pit Elvis against Jerry Lee do all you Elvis fans just listen to Elvis ? And do all you Lewis fans just listen to Jerry Lee ?? Or are you open minded & listen to all of these artists ? Because I do I like all these artists Bill Haley kicked it off in 1953 & '54 & '55 he owned the first 3 years until Elvis in 1956 the first wave & Jerry Lee in 1957 he was one of the 2nd wave performers.
Elvis said Roy Orbison was the greatest singer that ever Was, that's pop stars for you, they all say these kinds of things all the time. Except little old Jerry Lee, the king of self promotion
Imus should have mentioned Little Richard as one of the architects too.. Little Richard started that wild piano behavior...boot on the keys, jumping around while playing. Dunno if he stood on the piano also. Prolly did.
Your low IQ is showing sweetie. Elvis's soul depth and diversity destroys jerry Lee. But again, you aren't smart enough to understand that. God you're stupid.
@hambone9119 Yep... I'm wid you on that completely! Elvis don't really rate... that's why his legend was kind of adopted by all the colorful ethnics of the world. As for Johnny Cash... nah, although kinda cool in his own way, he wasn't rock'n'roll at all... he was more your rural gospel country blues kinda guy.
jerry must be tryn to make all the money he can untill he dies so his family can have enough money to live there lives without working and will have way over enough money if the ever wana start a businesses of there own for the kids they have and probably make a jerry lee lewis version of elvis'S -THE KING OF ROCK THE ONE AND ONLY-PRESLEY graceland I know he's gotta house to tour but it's nothing to brag about these reasons has to be the only way jerry lee would ever be on this racist ass imus show because jerry lee does not like a racist person or person because it just wronge cuz THERE IS ONLY ONE RACE AND THAS CALLED HUMAN RACE SO WHY HATE SOMEONE CUZ THEY GOTTA DIFF SHADE OF SKIN BUT WE ARE ALL HUMANS SO WE ARE THE SAME
Elvis only a singer.. We never saw Elvis doing intro orsolo with a guitar. And it was a joke when he played piano Elvis fans can t be objectiv .. And elvis fans don t play any instrument...or they play like elvis... that is to say not so good ... Good voice for slow songs(love me tender it is now or never) but it is not enough for rock n roll A rockn roll man must be musician and singer...and fast player Like the 2kingsof rockn rollpiano jerry lee and little richard. And the king of rockn rollguitarchuck berry.. If you are a rock n roln dancer you know the difficulty to dance on a jerrylee or little richard songs than an elvis one. And if you are musician you knowthe difficulty to play a rock song of jerry lee or little richard.. Elvis is easy to play..it is an évidan ce..
@illusionistdave yes he did man, listen if u want to bash jerry lee then fine but you cant honestly say that if jerry didnt marry his cousin,he would have been the king
2kings of rockn roll piano jerry lee and little richard One king in rock n roll guitar chuck berry. Elvis only a great singer not a musician we never saw Elvis doing intro or solo with a guitar. And when he played piano (only for slow songs can t help falling in love ...love me tender )it was funny he was obliged to look at his fingers on the keyboard....like a beginner... When elvis sang fast songs of other rockers... Tutti frutti...long tall sally from little richard he didn t play instrument..at the same time.. When elvis sang what i say from ray charles he didn t play in strument. When elvis sang whole lotta shaking from jerry lee he didn t play at the same time instrument.. When elvis sang carl perkins s song blue suede shoes he played guitar...but not like carl (no solo..)... Elvis was intelligent he knew he was not able to play and sing zt the same time fast songs like did jerry lee and little richard and chuck berry. Elvis had luck to have very goog guitarists as jim burton and scotty moore. When you look at a lot of video When elvis plays guitar .then stops to play to moove his body .. but you can hear the riff of guitar... (Thank you jim burton or scooty moore.)... Elvis the first air guitar... In an interwiew. Scotty moore explained that elvis only played by chords.. and that it was him who did the melody. Note after note and not only by playing three chords.... Elvis a great voice for slow songs like -tom jones paul anka franck sinatra ...aretha franklyn... But why did he often take his guitar as decoration?...
John Booker. He's a damn crook, begging for money to build a ranch for handicapped, underprivileged children. Turns out it was for his own family's use. Abandoned his older daughters, but dotes on his son with the new wife. He looks older than dirt and downright scary.
@yellingelk agree for me its Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis and Hell even Johnny Cash but as for Elvis i am a young guy i am 23, so maybe i dont get it, but i find The so called King to be very boring compared to Chuck and Jerry.
Elvis, Jerry Lee... the architects of rock'n'roll? What about a guy called Chuck Berry? Anyone heard of him?... oh that's right... he wasn't a white guy....
Two kings in rock n roll piano : jerry lee and little richard One king in rock n roll guitar : chuck berry. Elvis is only a singer with beautiful face and voice (good for slow. It s now or never ... move me tender.) He never did an i troduction or solo with a guitar and he is not very goof at the piano.. He was lucky to buy for a few penny the otis s blackwell songs.. in 56... and became the first to be known. But later jerry lee and little richard surpassed him. more rythm.. Songs faster hard to play... And i forget two in classable men Fats domino and ray charles.
