In 1980, it actually snowed in Houston

It was February 2, 1980. Houstonians were surprised with a little snow. It was only 1.2 inches of snow, but it was enough for kids to make snowmen and frolic in the snow. The National Weather Service called it a "freak occurrence." What started as freezing rain on Friday evening turned into snow by Saturday morning. abc13.com/1731718

I remember this , also it snowed in 2008 . I remember 2008 because I spent the summer in Alaska that year bought a Silverado Duramax 4x4 there drove it back to Houston and it was the first time I drove it in snow . Moved to Alaska in the summer of 2009 and lived in Alaska for 12 years and of course drove that truck in the snow every winter up there . 2020 2021 I was in Alaska and seen the news about the crazy cold . I missed that and it looked bad .

I remember that, I was about 9 years old then. Us kids ran all around the playground at recess trying to catch the short lived snow flakes lol. Also, one December morning in 2017, before school, I woke up to a neighborhood that was covered head to toe in snow and ice!

I came to Houston from Kansas in 1980 for school. That December I flew to NYC where I spent Christmas and brought in New Year 1981. I flew home to Kansas from NYC then rode a GREYHOUND bus back to Houston. From Centerville to Houston is normally about a (2) hour drive. Because of a *snow flurry*, the ride took (4) hours. I had spent my holidays walking through INCHES of snow and ice, temps around (20) degrees. To come back to Houston in temps of (40) and people afraid to drive because of light *dusting* of snow was laughable! In 2024, locals STILL make me laugh about the weather. 😂

I hate that I was born in 87 instead of like 79 or something because I would have liked to enjoy the 80s especially in Houston. But at least I got to enjoy the 90s , Best years for movies then were like 93,95-97. Didn't Houston have like a really harsh ice cold storm one day in like 91 or 92? I was like 4 I think and I remember it getting super cold with lots of snow and we had icicles forming everywhere. I remember our whole neighborhood looked like a winter wonderland and quiet with no wind and you could hear all the ice gently crackle throughout the day

It actually snowed in 1980? No way!!!!! Honestly though, we've had snow more often, it snowed 3-4+ times in the 80's and it's snowed around 50 or so times in the last 150 years so it's not that unusual.

Now it snows every year or two. Lots of climate deniers here. These people are really shocked, putting snowballs in the freezer, etc. No one is surprised to have roads iced for 3 days now every other winter, yet it’s not discussed.
