I was at RAF Kuching in 1965 to 1966, based at the transmitter site Batu Kitang. I still have wonderful memories of the people I met there, especially Kathy. I compare my memories of Sarawak with the images on Google Earth and I'm amazed at the development of Kuching, reaching far out into areas that were dense jungle. I had friends in Kuching, Haji Baki and Kampong Semaba. Greetings to you all. Denis
I was in lower secondary school in Kuching in the early 60’s. At that time, Sarawak was being milked by the English. Now Sarawak has a new colonial master, the Malayans from Kuala Lumpur. Corruption is rampant and flagrant. Corrupt high officials are strutting around, blatantly. I have given up on Sarawak.
Dear Mr. MichaelRogge, am personally very please and thankful to you for uploading all those rare videos especially on Kuching, Sarawak. Before these most of us only got a glimps of the past through still pictures taken by our families. My late father was also in the police force both during and after the British. He retired in 1984. He used to tell us stories of how kuching was back then. Especially with regards to the Police force which he loved most. Thank you Sir for sharing. Please convey my gratitude to the owner of the film. May the family and you bestowed with happiness always.
I was born in Kuching in 1970, but now live in the UK!!!! It's so nice to see what it looked like in 1960!!!! It was pretty similar to when I was a child in the '70s, so it brought back many happy memories!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
@@NormanThe_FreedomHope22-5 In general, the people here are lovely!! Wherever you go, you find good and bad people!! I think that if you treat those around you kindly, most of the time, you'll receive kindness in return!! Happy New Year, friend!!👍🎊🥳
I believe this film will bring back a lot of memory of the people related and also it shows the world Kuching in 1960. 50 years ago, even a young boy became an old man and most old man be history. These old men became dust in the air, but now thanks to Mr. Rogge, these dust, these unidentified dust becomes part of us, part of our history. Its value far beyond physical treasure
Hi, just looking at the footage, my adopted father brought me from London to Kuching around 1955 until moving to Sydney and boarding school in 1963. He was also in the police as Superintendent at the same time as your father after serving in the Royal Navy during the war. Unfortunately he passed away in 2006. Take care.
Thank you very much for sharing this film. with it's my generation can go back 57 years back to see how our town Serian look like. At that time mybe it is part of Kuching. The amazing giant Tapang tree at the road side still standing there until today. i very appreciate very much. one again thank you..
Thanks for the beautiful memories of Sarawak ,only problem was that my father was not allowed to enter Sarawak club in the 60s because he was a local not a white Anglo saxon.Grateful to be independent now the local can enter Sarawak club without discrimination.
First time I went to Kuching was in 1981. Then as a student. Later in mid 1980s, as a legalofficer of an oil&gas company. Kuching is so developed now days.
Stunning and interesting . Very reserved. I thought the lady was Royalty. These special days are long gone 😪 sad . Love borneo , saba and Sarawak .. we first went to kuching and then on to Batang Ai twenty years ago .
Mr. Michael Rogge, did you visit Kuching again after so many years since your last visit in 1960 ? How old was you during the year 1960 ? Is that lady in the film your wife?
Most of the landmarks here were still exist and even actively used as I grow up in Kuching during the 1970s especially during the late 70s thru 1985 Now I already live at work in Miri resort city as a 51 year old
Mr Michael Rogge How are you ? You must be in the 90’s today. Very grateful for this video. Where are you located now ? Blessings 🕊️🕊️🕊️ S Fong Kuching, Sarawak , Malaysia.
So lovely to see how sarawak use to looks like in nearly 60s, I'm as a pary of youth generation will always embracing my history, roots, culture, and traditions, How i wish Sarawak became like new Zealand, Mix of tradition and Western society!
People saw colonial greed thus, fought for Merdeka. Move fwd to the 21st century….our own politician were accused of corruption. Goshhhh!!!! We destroyed ourselves despite calling ourselves civilized society now.
