I wonder when they are going to find an aerodynamically better solution than having the FES blades lying on the front of the fuselage. For the average of 1x per year where I need my engine during flight I can still live with the 15 seconds it takes to get out the self launch engine of my Ventus 3M.
I have a glider with FES. The very nice thing about the FES system is that you can turn it on and off several times without any problem, many times it happened to me to turn on the FES, thinking that I had finally found the right thermal, but once I turned it off, the thermal vanished. With the FES I can turn it on again without problems. I can live with a little drag during the flight to have this advantage
