I don’t celebrate this pagan holiday. Or any of the white man’s pagan days. But Dr. Carr brought back a memory of my youth. My parents being both from the dirty south. I would hear my dad say Crisma or Cherma. He was a Gula GeeChee. Talk about ways of knowing. How are black souls and spirit communicate on a whole different frequency. 1st. I am very proud to be related to the amazingly beautiful black folk from Low Country South Carolina: Coosawhatchie, Pocataligo, Point South, Yemasee, Gillisonville, Ridgeland, Hardeeville, and more. Historically and culturally black South Carolinans are a very unique folk. Yes, Dr. Carr, it takes critical thought , analysis , and speaking with my ancestors to know just who I am. Hello! I wanted to purchase the book Dr. Carr referenced: The Encyclopedia of Caribbean Religions and was totally sticker shocked by the $250.00 + price tag! In comparison, the bible isnt even $10.00 which immediately unraveled my mind to begin thinking, "what is in this book that is so important that the price tag for the potential truth would be so expensive?" That was my first impression; I have to remind myself the truth will always be harder to obtain!
Ever since I discovered you guys my eyes,ears, thoughts, heart has been opened like never before . Its amazing what happens to a person when you have great teachers/educators. I feel sorry for the kids in schools who doesn't have access to teachers like Dr.Carr (The Human Google)and sister Karen Hunter (A clean glass of water). My first Kwanzaa celebration was on it's 30th anniversary in 1996. My mother was a student at Chatham College (now University) and Kwame Ture came to commemorate. I did not know it at the time but it was an honor.

I remember doing a Christmas play when I attended Catholic school. I was in the 6th grade, I was one of the Wise Men. I was pick for that part. Funny thing it turned out to be an eye opener for me personally. Even though I had read many times in the Bible, I didn't realize that one of them was a Black man. Well in the play I was the Brother.

I really like how u broke down the origins of christ going back with our ancestors the ancient Egyptians, and the Roman empire just using the story as a political instrument for control and power. Also what is a good thing to point out is the fact that they argued over christ having a human nature or not. He actually never walked the earth, the Bible can't be read as a history book, so I think this was a great class! Thank you

Christmas is indeed pagan and i gleefully celebrate a holiday that goes back before Christianity. Human beings have been celebrating the solstice since the dawn of time before your christian god. Jesus was has nothing to do with this time of year so called christ mass. It was co opted like all holidays. Including the spring time celebration of fertility aka easter!

Even though I was late to class I'm so happy that I watched the last half an hour live in Knubia whilst doing the dishes after eating with my family. The rub is one has to first be made aware, then evolve to learn that it is a pagan tradition to begin with. We can’t even get to the “how He feels about it” until the intended audience learns what “it” is. Dr. Carr, with all due respect, HNJ's book is an African-American origin story, not an African origin story. I think the comparison is a false equivalency. I do agree that the children's book "Born On The Water" is misinformation. She got that wrong.
I have been celebrating Kwanzaa for 26 years. Kwanzaa makes a lot of sense for our people than celebrating a pagan holiday that’s full of lies, brainwashing and hypocrisy. Christmas is totally mythology while our Kwanzaa is our festive holiday for Africans for seven days that’s the beauty of it. Mama Karen you are so beautiful. Happy Kwanzaa to you and Baba Greg.

SO...why are we so surprised that "Christmas" has become less and less about "Jesus"? Even the Bible is not about "Jesus". The bible is about "The Epic of Gilgamesh", King Hammurabi, "Apollonius of Tyana", The Pyramid Texts" and getting mankind to view everything through a racist-religious lens.
