This was a very insightful film! I love the choices of the cinematography and how it ties into the visceral experiences of all the featured characters. The symbolism is really strong and thematic both in your choice to make them bold and then to have some implied, from the blessings of the Orisha, to the cut out full body picture of the 'physically absent' Father. So much interconnectivity in this film on multiple levels that create a cathartic element that leads me straight into hard and soft emotional impacts of the story. Such a wild ride from rooting for them, to being angry with them, to being sad for them, and rejoicing with them; it was a wonderful emotional orchestra. It was also easy for me to relate with Fox and I felt her strength through her eyes and her smile. Love your choices on the CU shots. I love the b&w, the slo mo, the music choices and even the drone shots. However, my favorite was the choice whether intentional or not, to not include any visual footage of the Father behind bars and that we never see any one of our characters in the institution- that for me was the strongest, and most powerful aspect of the language and overall message of the film. I thank you both for this experience!
