In this series of 15 videos, Dr. Jacelyn Biondo is joined in conversation by 16 first-generation dance therapists who have studied directly with the foundational practitioners and theorists of the professional field of dance therapy. In each conversation, these women share their stories and wisdom in their own words, passing their knowledge on to future generations. This archival video series was made possible by funding from the Marian Chace Foundation.
Nitza Broide-Miller was born and raised in Israel. She attended Teachers’ College and received a Teacher’s degree. Later she attended Tel Aviv University and received her BA and MA degrees [Magna cum Lauda] in Clinical Psychology and Educational Counseling. Dr. Broide-Miller had a long history in Dance and Theater, and she was searching to work in Dance in a therapeutic way. She studied Dance Therapy in New York City, which was at the time in its infancy. Dr. Broide-Miller is one of the charter members and founders of the American Dance Therapy Association. She is also one of the founders of the Expressive Arts Therapy Association in Israel. Since 1976 Dr. Broide-Miller was trained in the Satir Model with Virginia Satir, until Satir’s unfortunate death in 1988, and later on with John Banmen. Dr. Broide-Miller combines the Satir Model with the Expressive Arts (Dance, Music,Art) in her workshops around the world.

So much beautiful sharing here. Your stories are incredible and how many early DMTs you were able to have direct experience with is amazing. I love the phrases you share about each, as each statement resonates in my body differently , thank you !!!
