Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know what you think, I'd love to start a discussion around this.
I think a few things I want to clarify is that I don't hate the other Assassin's Creed games however I do think Unity is the best in the franchise. I didn't bother comparing Unity to games that came after such as Assassins Creed Origins stray so much from what makes a game an Assassins Creed game that comparing it to Assassins Creed Unity would be far too long and not very meaningful in the video. I appreciate you guys for watching and if you want, you can watch more video essays from myself and NAM12399

Assassin's Creed Unity is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released in November 2014 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the eighth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and the successor to 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It also has ties to Assassin's Creed Rogue which was released for the previous generation consoles, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the same date.
The plot is set in a fictional history of real world events and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The story is set in Paris during the French Revolution; the single-player story follows Arno Victor Dorian in his efforts to expose the true powers behind the Revolution. The game retains the series' third-person open world exploration as well as introducing a revamped combat, parkour and stealth system. The game also introduces cooperative multiplayer to the Assassin's Creed series, letting up to four players engage in narrative-driven missions and explore the open world map.
Assassin's Creed Unity is an action-adventure stealth game set in an open world environment. The game was meant to be rebuilt, with fencing being used as an inspiration for the new system. In addition to returning weapons from previous games, Assassin's Creed Unity introduces the Phantom Blade. The Phantom Blade uses the mechanics of a crossbow to fire a silent projectile at a great distance, while still serving the same role as the Hidden Blade in previous Assassin's Creed games. Navigation for the game was also overhauled: new "Free-run up" and "Free-run down" commands were added to make it easier for the player to scale buildings in either direction. Additionally, Arno learns new moves throughout the game, but the player can also purchase new skills as well. With the updated, larger crowds, new interactions with them are also available. The crowd regularly presents many activities, appearing organically, that the player can then choose to engage in at their leisure. Examples include scaring a group of bullies by pulling out a weapon, "settling" a disagreement between two civilians by killing one of them, which is usually a Templar, or chasing down a thief who has just pick pocketed somebody.
For the first time, the series allows players to customize the characters' abilities, adopting a skill tree that enables players to assign points earned through gameplay to improve their skills in stealth, melee, and ranged combat, and health. Players are also able to customise their weapons, armour and equipment to further complement their individual style of play. Players also have a wider selection of weapons available, including swords, axes, spears, rifles, pistols and throwable items, such as smoke bombs. The expansion DLC, Assassin's Creed Dead Kings, adds the formidable guillotine gun.
Assassin's Creed Unity received mixed reviews upon its release. Praise was directed towards its visuals, improved gameplay, customization options, multiplayer-oriented format, mission design, setting, characterization, and narrative. However, the game was criticized for a lack of gameplay-innovation, unrefined controls, and numerous graphical issues and bugs upon release. Because of the game's poor launch owing to the technical issues, Ubisoft issued an apology, and offered compensation.
Assassin's Creed Unity was followed by Assassin's Creed Syndicate, which takes place in Victorian England, and was released in October 2015.

I agree with everything you said, except for the part about having the best storyline. AC Unity is set in the middle of the French Revolution, one of the most exciting periods of history! Yet the story is one of a personal vendetta. It has almost no affect on the Revolution unfolding around you except for a mission or two, and the Revolution has almost no influence on the game's plot except for a cool backdrop. So, while I don't think the story was bad, it had potential as big as the Grand Canyon, and it just didn't deliver.

@@jinhunterslay1638 Don't lose hope. A Ubisoft dev (on Reddit) told me that Valhalla, Origins, and Odyssey were part of the same dev cycle. We are gonna see a complete overhaul with the game that comes after Valhalla. And Unity's parkour will most likely return. The devs know that fans want that system back, but they couldn't do it, since, in the beginning, they chose to build the RPG elements for those games rather than the transversal. Now, they will change that. Valhalla has its parkour tweaked a little bit (since they didn't have to code much RPG elements because they just imported them from Odyssey), and they had a little more time, but the next game should be the real change.

It seems to me, there s a lot of hate towards AC games in general, even Odyssey, my personal favorite. I like unity and, as for the other AC titles, it wasnt perfect, still fun. However there s a huge gap between the reality and the trash many reviewers makes us to believe. Point #1 of extreme criticism: narrative: I am a picky reader and as such, there s no game with a good plot / lore, maybe I d exclude the witcher because there s some previous written storyline by an actual writer and I felt like the story and the world were already there,#2 repetetive gameplay - defenitly yes mostly in the first titles....I still have to play AC 3, but black flag, gameplay wise, my second favorite, is it still repetitive?, yes, when you end up playing hundreds of ours of a certain game of course it becomes repetitive but what makes us love Ac games is that they are relatively easy games, (but not for hardcore gamers for sure), educational, transport us in time like no other game, the settings are wonderfull and they put a lot of historic research into it , and #3 not fun....sorry but Red Dead redemption is triple A, super good looking, but I havent had any fun with it and I end up reselling it because it doesnt match my playstyle , the main reason? Too realistic.... At the end, in terms of pure game mechanics developing, Ac games are not a triple A, but still far from being trash. Most hate comes from the huge sucess of the Ac series, it happens all the time everywhere with everything in life... at the end of the day, we who love AC creed wont listen and I bet we will pick these games just to walk around and appreciate the sandboxes they created...it happens to me a lot of time at least :D

Yes Ezio is beloved and almost everyone agrees that he's fun and engaging and overall enjoyable. And that's one definition for a great character. But he is still lacking a lot of depth, which was only fixed by assassins creed embers. Arno while not being as fun or enjoyable, actually had a lot of depth to his character. The writers portrayed him being torn between his love for Elise and her heritage as templar and his heritage as an assassin really good. While Ezio is one of the coolest video game characters, Arno seemed much more human to me. Although that character arc wise, Edward and his redemption take the cake in this regard.
@marcus14659
@marcus14659 4 года назад
@@MrXoohoo ezio also has a lot of depth tho. All ezio has ever wanted was to lead a confortable life surrounded by loved ones which we see even in ac2. However what's even greater is ezio's ambition as he constantly sacrifices his dreams and confortable life to fulfill his goals. He even almost gave up at the start of ac brotherhood but the life he chose didn't let him go that easily. He may be confident and charismatic on the outside but all he wants is to settle down and have a fulfilling life but he we always see him sacrifice that dream for his ambitions. he's always driven by his ambitions of revenge, finding out the truth about the artifacts and his own heritage. At the end in embers, we see him evaluating with him accepting the limits of his ambition. My only issue with arno is that his personality is pretty uninteresting, like he's not as charasmatic as ezio or Edward and that's the only character trait he has making some of the interactions a little stale and boring. His interactions with elise are pretty cool but that's because they're flirting most the time and that's when his charisma rly shines. Other than that he doesn't have any other note worthy character traits.

The thing that pisses me off was back when this was released, and the articles, journalists, and random internet person always referred to the same video and the same image of the missing face bug. Whenever anyone references the bugs in the game, I see that same picture. This says to me that one person found it early on, happened to be recording, uploaded it, and everyone ate it up. Imagine if that famous Red Dead Redemption glitch video of the Mountain Lion model-swapped with the woman happened, and then everyone decided to shit on the game for being full of bugs. Frankly, it was full of bugs, but also really fondly remembered.

I think that bug, and most of the ones people dealt with were prevalent on day one. This was the first AC game that I purchased on steam (having purchased a disc for the PS3/PS4 for all the previous games) I do remember the download taking a while because it was a 40 to 50 GB download. The game did allow you to play it before it finished downloading, which was where I encountered any of the bugs I've ever encountered in this game. I ended up setting the game aside for a week or something like that, and never saw another bug. It honestly drives me nuts, how many people say they don't like this game because they believe it's riddle with bugs. Meanwhile, they never gave it the time of day.

Aqua really was only talking about 2 in that instance, in which case I have to agree that Arno’s arc is better executed and more fleshed out (imo) than Ezio. The hidden blade making its way to cleopatra is a mystery that can be explained in the future but I’m guessing he protected elpidios until his death until he either passed it on to him or became friends with higher ups who didn’t agree with the order like cleopatras family and it was stated in odyssey that the spear contained both dna of two similar people and siblings would be very similar in terms of dna so the animus used that dna but found two paths to follow so it simulated two people not knowing which was the true one

The parkour and the combat from 2 all the way to Rogue hasn't changed much. It really doesn't matter if he compares them to AC2 or AC:Rogue as it's all basically the same. The engine, Anvil, didn't get it's largest update until AC:Unity. AnvilNext was an upgrade but it didn't upgrade in much of animations, and features. AC2 was a solid game, and it's fair to compare it to it.

What I loved most about this game was that the character looked leaner than in all the other games. Arno looked leaner and more agile than all the other (male) Assassins. And I think that look is more fitting to an Assassin. You look more agile, more deadly but also more vulnerable. Also his robes and general gear looked amazing and better than the following games. I also loved the athomsphere and the map of this game. The feel of the revolution was carried out greatly and Paris itself contributed a great share to it. I think this was the best map for an Assassin's Creed. It only featured one city but this city was huge. There was a lot to explore both horizontally and vertically. London from AC Syndicate was also a cool city but the whole city and graphics felt to grey-ish to me. I prefer Paris for that reason. Last but not least I also liked the colors of this game. I believe Unity featured the best color set in the series. It outclassed all the ACs before concerning graphics and color setting. Syndicate had the same colors but looked too grey-ish in my opinion. Origin just didn't have enough environmental and color variety to satisfy me, it felt like the main color of that game was sand. Odyssey is coming the closest and boy it was beautiful but for me it was a little too colorful, the color set was too much based on "nature colors". I just prefer the style of Unity in that aspect. I'm interested in what all of you got to say about my ideas. I would love to hear your opinions

Unlike other AC fans I wasn’t such a big fan of Ezio and I wondered why and maybe it’s because he’s just too good. I guess that’s why for a very long time Altaïr was my favourite, because he does make mistakes right from the beginning and he isn’t some Chosen One figure. They gave away DLC for free because of the backlash and back-pedalled almost as badly as the mother energy drinks (that have a label saying nothing like the original) going back to the tried and true AC games afterwards giving us the interactions we all loved. Unity is a great game after its patch but misses out on what makes AC games AC games; the character interactions which felt rushed and forced in unity compared to its other games in the series.

About Ezio vs Arno: -Ezio wasn't really the chosen one, Desmond was, Ezio was just a vessel to get a message to Desmond, which is sad in a way. -Ezio also was a shit talker when he was young, but has he aged through the games we see him becoming more wise and leaving some of his childish remarks behind. -Ezio story had love in it, but it wasn't the focus point for most of it. It was like he could never settle because he, and his family, had enemies, and he was tied to always be fighting the Templars. -Ezio main flaw is being stubborn, when he was young he rarely listened to anyone and was really just out for vengeance, that is why he killed Uberto, but spared Rodrigo, it is because he grew up in the time that has passed, going from 17 to 30 -I would also say Ezio does ponder on the creed of the assassins and their philosophy in the third game. Not only that, Ezio reflects on his past and tries to find answers for others in the future, in a way acknowledging being trapped by his own fate, and accepting it In the end I think Arno has many character similarities in Ezio, hell they even look similar, and most of what I said was just to defend my boy Ezio.

Logged in just to give you a like. I almost completely agree. ACU and Origins are my favorite AC games and are the ones that I still touch till this day. Simply put, Connor, Edward, Jacob Evie, Bayek, hell even Ezio, they are awesome fighters. But Arno Dorian, HE IS AN ASSASSIN. I haven't felt like playing an assassins since Altair. ACU makes you feel vulnerable, push you to think of different strategies to stay stealthy by clever use of the tools that you have. Bc you know the moment you run into open ground when 5 guns are aiming at you chances are you are a deadman. It was the most satisfying experience I had in a AC game (maybe Im biased bc I love stealth games? LOL). I'll add to your point about the gorgeous map by saying ACU has the most beautiful interiors ever in the entire franchise and that just add a complete whole new dimension to the map; people dont realize that with all the interiors accounted for Paris is HUGE. And it is the most believable world UBISOFT has ever created, the NPC feels like living breathing human beings with their own agendas; I would constantly stop just to see what people are doing, it feels so dynamic and fascinating. Free running over the rooftops of Paris, I seriously can't find a better experience in all the games that I've played. The negatives for me is the story, it was easily forgettable and a bit dull. TBH I find the Paris stories more fascinating than the main quests. Also...the characters are just too....British...not just accents, but their manners...and tbh it breaks the immersion at times, like I will totally believe you if you tell me these ppl are British and this story took place in London if I know nothing about the game. Another thing is that I loved the Paris brotherhood, best after AC1...but...I just dont see them a lot on the street. It feels like I'm the only field agent and ALL the others were just clerks behind desks lol.

But unfortunately, they preferred to not to speak his name directly. That's it. It's the only clue of his whereabout. Ubisoft could've fixed the plot by adding Shay in Germain's flashback. From there, Arno could look for clues until he tracked the templars who talked about that man in the mansion before. Then eventually, find The man himself. They shouldn't have released Dead Kings DLC. Instead, they could've just released a DLC to finish the story of Arno and French Revolution.

I LOVED AC Unity and when I played co-op, I only experienced a few bugs and had an overall good time playing with friends. Playing the game by myself I barely ever had bugs, but one I did have a few times was where I couldn’t attack far a minute or two. I love this game and definitely recommend this to others who want to play Assassins Creed.

I have every game in the series, and on Steam, I have screenshots documenting a ton of glitches and bugs from each one, most of them being ragdolls... All except for Unity. The ONLY bug I really experienced was that Arno was hovering a few inches above a railing I was hanging from in a cathedral

The series ended with this game for me. It was the perfect highlight of everything that made AC great. And it was the perfect send off. Nowadays the series is nothing like what it was originally made to be. And that's fine as long as people are having fun with it. But for me, personally, AC was supposed to fill a very specific niche. And everything since Syndicate just doesn't bother.

Freedom for None - Uroboro Djinn the RPG systems feel tacked on and not thought out properly. The narrative comes to a grinding halt all the time because you have to do a bunch of side missions to level up. I only stuck with Origins because the world was so damn cool. I agree, after syndicate the series took a turn and I’m ok with that, change is inevitable but I hope the fix some issues with it

Young Yahweh for the sake of this argument imma choose to believe that you have a magical platform that fixed a broken game: it still “only” applies to 99% of the players, and your comment was about how this video was needed. It wasn’t, he just said what everyone already knew and left out the “that’s the experience you’ll have now with the game and I just spent the whole video playing dumb and acting like I don’t know that most critics are because the game used to be unplayable”. We all know the game looks beautiful and the parkour now can feel smooth... it was still downgraded and broken so no one cared, specially since the game launched when ppl started catching up with Ubisoft being full of shit.

@@ping4d064 I don't care whether it was playable or not for most others. Since the game ran fine for me, I got to see the game for its intended experience. That's means I got to play with my friends for the first and only time, I got a reasonably difficult AC game for the first time, I got actual interesting customization for ounce, I got a real stealth bottom for the first time (in a Stealth game.) And it goes on and on. The point is that when the game ran right it was masterful. It's even better now that it's been polished but if it got a full release or remaster it would without a doubt be the best AC game next to Brotherhood.

people say that unity's story is bad, because people see it as a cheap love story but there's so much more depth to it, it's not incredible, but it's not garbage. It's like calling AC2 story bad because "it's just about an orfan"

Letting others influence your opinion on a product you know nothing of isn't always the wisest decision, don't get me wrong, but the former doesn't seem very smart either. We need a balance between these two options.

The thing is different people have different taste, much like to gaming, people have different playstyles. Some people prefers the stealth approach, some prefers gun blazin. @@admiralmu4353 Not really. If a game allows for multiple playstyles, I'll bet you multiple playthroughs for each will crop up. And, what about games that only require one style of play? You don't have to get a "hands-on feels" to know if a games for you, or if the game is even worth the price of admission. Case in point, I know I'd get bored with Fallout 76, even if I picked it up now, based on all the footage I've seen. Plus, I simply refuse to buy the game off principle. No Man's Sky is another story, inversely. This game made a solid comeback 2 years after its release. Upon seeing videos related to the added content, I thought to myself, "Now might be the time to try it out," which is exactly what I did. Do you understand what I'm trying to say? In a day and age where triple-A companies will lie in order to build hype and increase pre-order sales, it's essential that we wait for the reviews, as well as the walkthroughs. Otherwise, we run the risk of wasting our money, something I'd like to avoid.
