This is one of my new favorite RU-vid videos! I've been searching for substantive MCR content that isn't just vapid, and I'm really glad to find someone who also enjoyed Danger Days and sees how it belongs in the wider MCR canon. I think the great thing about the band is their honesty and vulnerability, and that doesn't just involve rage and sadness, I think it also involves bittersweet hopefulness. I feel like their reunion has really been defined by that uplifting aura. (Also one small thing about the storyline of Revenge, the quote that Wikipedia uses actually comes from an interview the band did in 2004 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vr7YCJRFHKc.html, but it's wrongly attributed to a fan site for some reason.) Also, I hate to ask, but where are you from? Actually...don't answer that.

Thank you so much!! Always great to hear from fellow Danger Days enjoyers. And thanks for finding where the quote was actually from! I'll add the correct source to the description. I 100 precent with what you said about the reunion, I have a lot of strong feelings about the tour and Foundations and how it all fits into the progression of the band overall, Foundations is just so incredibly meta and I think has a lot to do with the bands realtionship to thier audiance, but I decided not to include it in the video and instead promise myself to make a follow up when MCR5 (or new music in another form) comes out and we get a more full picture. Love that the the qustion of my birthplace is becoming a meme on this channel lol

The line "Everybody wants to change the world, but no one wants to die" has long been one of my favourite song lyrics, but until today I never realised the strangeness of the line "No one wants to die" when written by a band so familiar with depression. I really love your interpretation of the lyric being a message to the depressed fans that what they really want isn't death, but change that would address the systemic problems causing or contributing to their depression. Danger Days has always been my favourite MCR album, I'm really glad you gave it the attention and analysis I feel it deserves

Yeah, MCR has always had vehemently anti-capitalist lyrical subtext, but it never really got foregrounded until Danger Days, except maybe in one-offs like Teenagers or Blood, though you could argue that Sleep and Disenchanted are also like that to some extent.

"No one wants to die" reminds me of what my mum's doctor said when she was really depressed (some years before I was born) "You don't want to DIE - you just want to stop feeling like this" And that's really altered the way I look at "the bad times" in my life. There's always something better out there, and something is better than nothing.

The comics make it so much better! The story is so rich and so good. I love how much I get to play with the universe it creates. I get to have a character in it that makes choices in a universe that makes sense. I get to have a fun and explore and experience in a universe that’s about fighting for something that matters and actively encourages self exploration and expression and I think the canon story of Danger Days has been an amazing way to boost my creativity again and give me the reason I started writing in the first place back. I started for fun for me to have an outlet. And that’s amazing! I also love the uplifting message the album itself has. It’s got this fun excitement about life that I love and need sometimes while still having a story.

Danger Days was a surprise for me when i first listened to it. My friends had gotten into MCR at the same time as me and none of them had listened to it, so when I found it and fully listened to it: I sobbed. It made me hopeful for the future while also making me realize that I needed to fight for what I needed. It's what helped me out of my shell, helped me to come out and transition. Danger Days is a beautiful piece that helped complete me, in a time when I needed it most.

ive always loved how every single song that mcr have ever put out are connected by a little thread of genuine kindness for the listener. there is love in every song. it makes it all feel like someone's giving you a warm hug or pulling you back up to your feet and running the next leg of the race with you. and your running buddy doesn't even need to say anything particularly encouraging or stereotypically inspirational but the sense of support and community is always there. and god knows they ran up to me at just the right time lol.

I absolutely adore Danger Days so much, to the point I'm writing a whole five nights at Freddy's fic that takes place in the universe lol. It's universe is actually pretty complex, though lots of the lore is inconsistent. That doesn't matter to me though, as it's fun to make up my own interpretations!

I am really glad I got into mcr mostly on my own, some of my friends listened to it and I was curious about it so I listened to black parade and I’m gonna be honest, didn’t like it at first, but then the songs got stuck in my head and then I started listening to it on loop and loved it, then I decided to listen to the other albums and revenge is definitely my favorite but I also LOVE bullets and danger days, bullets kinda more then black parade in terms of the style of music. But I feel like if someone tried to get me into mcr, and especially if they told me they thought danger days was not that great, I probably would have hesitated in listening to it even tho I love the album I honestly also interpret “everybody wants to change the world but no one, no one wants to die” differently then both the ways talked about. I see it as a fear of death. Because even people who are suicidal, like myself, many of us are afraid to die, the fear of what happens to the few people who we feel truely care about us, the fear of dying without having done anything with their life, the fear of the pain that goes with death. So even if we want to change the world, we are scared of dying before we even make it, and the next few lines being “wanna die wanna die wanna try wanna try” changes it from death being a possibility, but what it takes to even make an attempt Obviously my interpretation is tainted by my life experience but, that’s how I view it

Thank you for making this video danger days was my first mcr album and it’s neat hearing someone else talk about what they interpret the meaning. I interpreted it more of how capitalism and mega corporations are exploiting the working class and in turn actively making it impossible to escape poverty. This may just be because i live up with a my single mom who is a teacher, and having to work 25 hours a week plus do high school. But I love your interpretation. Specifically your interpretation of sing.
@Skyush

I think that's a super valid interpatation too! Anti capitalism is definitely extremly present in the album, vampire money comes to mind as a blatant example of that. Thank you for the kind words and I'm sorry to hear about your situation and hope things will get easier for you and your mom💞

Danger Days is probably my favorite album of all time for many many reasons, and the way you've described how extremely valuable it is to have a Danger Days after all the trauma and heartbreak of their other albums does so much justice to MCR's contribution to music pop culture. One of the things that frustrates me the most is people saying D.D. was a sell-out. Like, HELLO, DID YOU EVEN HEAR WHAT THEYRE SAYING??? vampire money is a whole song about not wanting to sell out even if it's for an absurd amount of money. Another thing I love about danger days is the very very strong anticapitalist themes. A massive corporation that lobbies and runs the government to a degree that has a bald man in charge and a smile in their logo? And they're working to erase all who oppose them that fall outside their ideas of how society should run? Huh, that sounds a little familiar. This album (from my very queer perspective) is probably the most outwardly queer album MCR has done. And I cannot express how important it is that the album that has resonated the most with me as a queer person is the one about staying alive. They haven't killed you yet, what are you going to do about it? The song Sing sums it up perfectly. Anyway, I'm done with my ramble, awesome video!

@Skyush
@Skyush 9 дней назад
The idea was that just like Chaplin decided to make an imperfect album because he he cared about art's impact on society more than art for arts sake, so did mcr decided to make an imperfect album (dangerdays in relation to the other mcr albums) because they cared about speaking a certain messege to thier audiance more than "objective" artistic perfe tion and cohesion. Also I think that's the poprpuse of I'm not ok and teenagers and famous last words in thier respe time albums. It is kind of a random connection at first blush but I think it works.

I think there's always been an idea floating around in my head that no one really wants to die. I go back and forth on whether I believe that or not, but I think it has value. People don't want to die per se; they want to live a life worth living. They want to live, but the life they're leading isn't worth being around for. I think what we want is change.
