@JerryMeehanJr I'm not biggest fan of Digimon, but I LOVE the TCG. I've never been as invested in a TCG until Digimon and I've been playing TCGs since the 90s. Its simplicity is actually what got me into the game. It has advanced quite a bit since I learned, but it's nowhere NEAR as annoying as trying to get back into YGO after being away for years.
I remember running into The Digimon Movie by accident when I was little. There was a big T-Rex and giant parrot fighting each other and some kids blowing into a whistle to help Greymon. I had no idea what I just walked into I just thought the animation looked awesome. Hahaha!
The fact that Toei Animation, the company that makes Digimon, "kinda forget" that the franchise exist doesn't help. They only started to remember after the first Digimon hit the 20th anniversary and goes "Oh yeah, We do have this franchise".
Actually, the company that owns the Digimon Franchise is Bandai Namco, who seem to be stumbling trying to figure out what to do with digimon but at the same time just not giving the franchise any money or marketing. its ridiculous
@@fakesru1234 completely agree but on the other hand, I do also appreciate bandai still occasionally focusing on the fans that grew up with the series instead of exclusively trying to bring in new fans. There's gotta be a healthy balance of the two
Dont forget that Tai and Kari suffer from parental neglect that caused their mom to quit her job and love bomb them while their dad doubles down and works overtime.
i feel that literally any store walk in You find minimum 10 things of pokemon but i can only name 1 digimon item and that's the tcg they have snd not very many packs
@@ninjajack6457 the rest were true, but this one isn't. It's definitely not true in the original, and I'm pretty sure it's not implied in the dub. Her dad is just never around because he's always teaching, and so she's raised by her mother, who she felt cared more about their family's heritage than herself.
By second try do you mean the one that came out in the early 2000s or the one that came out recently in 2020? Because they're basically completely different games.
The card game is actually pretty easy. I’m the stupidest guy I know and I play it. It’s also pretty cheap, it’s starting to get expensive but for now it’s pretty cheap
Loved Pokemon and Digimon as a kid. Pokemon for the games, but Digimon for the shows. I also appreciate the Yu Yu Hakusho fakeout at the end because that's been my favorite anime since I was 9. (Hiei is so badass)
Ok, i agree with most things said here. I feel like pokemon is more of a product nowadays with the people behind it more concerned about making money before anything else. Digimon on the other hand as always been able to tell interesting stories through it's anime and has produced games of somewhat consistent quality! Also , i wasn't expecting you to mention yu yu hakusho, one of my favorite manga, holy smokes!! You just earned a subscriber
Yup it definitely feels like that specially when you see some Pokemon collabs they make brands use the regular pictures there’s no artistic freedoms but Digimon I see the craziest art. Yu yu hakusho was one of my fav anime’s growing up!! Thank you for watching and subbing!!
I grew up with both digimon and Pokémon as a kid and over the years I grew to like digimon way more than Pokémon especially when at least digimon changes it up from season to season and gives you different protagonists from the get-go..... Pokémon meanwhile we're stuck with ash for 27 years he gets a bunch of easy victories when we get to the easiest league in the franchise and the easiest battles he's ever had in his final tenure and now we finally get new characters but I don't care for any of these new characters now. Plus digimon has a monster that's literally nothing but guns and it looks cool and it has sexy waifus in it, including Angewomon lol.
Watching Leomon die for the first time was heart-breaking since out of all the side Digimon companions, he's always there to guide the main characters on the right path. But by Digimon Tri, it became a literal meme since it happens in every goddamn season lol. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Leomon that either died or sacrifices himself in Ghost Game or the Adventure reboot. At leas the games haven't done that yet...at the least ones I've played. There isn't a Leomon in Digimon: Survive is there?
i 100% agree the games and animes have been vastly seperier to pokemon with more depth and more risk with more verity to each of its season less rince and repeat as pokemon dose
Yup 👆 It’s because digimon fell off like I said after season 3 they don’t have real faith in the franchise like they should. The tcg sells out all the time at targets by me so obviously people want more Digimon content. The reboot remake thing wasn’t the best. I wish they would’ve just kept the og series going
@@JerryMeehanJr I disagree I think that Digimon at it's best should explore a wide variety of themes, stories & characters. I feel like pigeonholing the franchise to just the Adventure continuity would'vd led to the same issue you had with the Pokemon anime with Ash and how the story just never ends. There something I really apperciate about how the shows were just allowed to end. And also like the original series has gotten tons of love. (Some would say to much love even.) Like there been multiple continuations of the original in the last 10 or so years. (Tri, Last Evo Kizuna, 02 The Beginning.) That way more than anything else in the franchise.
Digimon was so cool!! I always wondered about that one episode with those tadpole people and Kari... did they just skip going into that storyline.. ir was it edited iyt of the English version?? But omg xD Yu Yu Hakusho got me!!! Legit share your taste in anime lol
Story line about dark ocean in 02 was just kinda Dropped and never brought up again, its not missing episodes if there no episodes about it to begin with Sometimes it was just like that, yeah
Hey!! Digimon frontier is good too, there is a kid who died in the real world and in the digital world is an enemy, duskmon or something, the Sentai power rangers style is very underated :) Great video, more weeb content haha 😂
Yeah a lot of this is common knowledge in the Digimon fanbase. Digimon is the better story while Pokemon is more marketable and easier to get into. A lot of the flaws with Digimon lie with it's lack of a combat system like Pokemon. This is why the Pokemon card game and the video games took off. The rpg like structure of the combat allowed for kids to play along and engage with the show as well as their friends. Digimon didn't have that. Whatever they had didn't make sense in the games or card game and it didn't carry over into the show. Zatch Bell actually solved this problem funnily enough but I don't think the owners of the franchise cared about it enough to improve things.
Whoa whoa whoa the Digimon Card Game 2020 is really easy to play, cheap to get started, and one of the best designed games because of the memory tracker. Ill teach you how to play. Its not that hard. Its AMAZING
Man you remind me of Jaiden! Heck this video is better than unlucky Jaiden's! Cold sides of pillows and luck for both of yas! Also nice short and simple! It's like eating a nice quick snack!
Hell IV said for a while now with Pokemon lacking in innovation or polish as the last few felt like cashgrabs like Scarlet and Violet were severely rushed out and sword and shield were way to short games like pal world I called would be big compition as well as that doli v game coming out
Cept the card game. Especially the new one they just came out with a couple years back. Played a lot like duel masters/kaijudo cept you don't have to sacrifice your cards for the mana pool. Just the shields.
The f*cking problem about digimon are > Games is all over the place > Animu kinda repeat a lot like how many times we get agumon variety, how many time member royal knights and demon lord show up? > Xross war and frontier was a mistake > Mobile game with good story only die fast
in defense of Digimon Xross Wars at least it was original with a new plot style just watch the Japanese version of 'Digimon Xross Wars" it is so much better.
to be honest digimon was my second anime after dragon ball and later pokemon and i agreed digimons characters have a more deeper history than pokemon i mean pokemon is not bad but.... seeing the same kid for over dont know how many season and still being 10 years old i mean seriusly?? if he was a least 16 when is was over i would accept it but well about the digimons games i almsot played all of them (except decode and survive i kinda scared of that one ) and i like the desing of the digimon they unique plus they an revert to a small form when you want to carry arround you cant carry a charizard in your arms unless you superman well each side have their good points
Eh. The Digimon card game ain't that hard to play. I mean, sure, it's gotten really complex over the years, but the core basics are very easy to understand. There are a few videos that are extremely helpful in showing the more complex parts, but it's no Yu-Gi-Oh. I know a lot of people are scared of it eventually reaching Yu-Gi-Oh levels of convoluted, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. The Digimon TCG has basically already implemented every possible weird gimmick from the series, so the feature creep is probably gonna slow down significantly now. The only remaining thing I can think of that's missing in the card game is Appmon, which will probably work similar to DNA digivolution and digixross. But yeah, digimon is great. Adventure, tamers and data squad are peak fiction
@@JerryMeehanJr To buy packs try finding a local games store / local tcg store. They usualy sell packs for cheaper than major retailers and host events frequently, there are some events called tamer parties aimed to play casualy and help new people learn the game. Theres also 2 online simulators now, project drasil and DCGO
@@JerryMeehanJr idk if my other comment got deleted so il just type it again youtube woes To buy packs or decks i recomend finding a local games store or local cardgame shop, they usualy have things at lower prices than big retailers. They also have communities for the game and host events like tamer parties wich aim to help newcomers into the game and to play more casualy. Aditionally there are also online simmulators for you to be able to learn how to play the game without needing physical cards
It seems like there’s a great tcg community for Digimon! I actually live in nyc there’s a few trading card stores near by that host events so I’m gonna try the simulator and build a deck and try it out!
Digimon Tamers: PEAK Digimon Adventure (1999): Classic Yeah don't watch Digimon Adventure 02... It's not good compared to the original or Tamers. Both series deal with heavy emotional stuff and darker stuff.
I didn't know that Digimon gods have NewYork accent. .. Lame jokes aside, as a stupid 30 yr old guy who loves pokemon... i think digimon is the the better franchise. Digimon cyber sleuth is the pinnacle of turn-based/ creature collection games.. and all pkmn games can suck it. .. Best wishes
Digimon is a GREAT franchise owned by a BAD SHIT company, like seriously bandai can we actually get new digimon anime stuff and anything that is not tcg and p bandai?!
Digimon lost to Pokemon purely because its lows are catastrophic, and said lows happened at 2002 rather than 2013 (or 2019 if you like the 3DS era of Pokemon). Frontier still damned Digimon for all eternity. Savers/Data Squad was competent but at the end of the day was very basic shonen from the mid 00s with the Digimon name, Xros Wars did whatever it wanted to its own detriment, Hunters was the timeslot filler add-on to Xros Wars, Appmon has one of the worst starts in Digimon history, only rivaled by a dubious Adventure reboot, and the less said about modern Adventure as a whole the better, and finally Ghost Game also has the Savers/Data Squad problem of being "good but not good enough", but instead of being too basic and by the books being its death sentence, it has no plot - only body horror.
This is irrelevant in Asia, the difference in art style is clear and the themes is obviously separate. Fans jump the gun because it is marketed as Pokemon in the west. Evolution localized into "Digi-volve", "Child" and "Adult" level into "Rookie" and "Champion", the god-awful Digi-Rap, the god awful new ost, the god-awful censors...etc
I wish I could say I like Digimon more. But, the digimon being sentient always felt awkward to me. Pokemon being my little pet and adventuring with him. Yeah, that's alright. Grown ass woman with wings needs a 10 years old boy to tell her when to shit and go to sleep... yeah, not my fetish. That, an I feel Ash's pokemon have much more personality than any pre-Shoutmon digimon partner. Which is weird considering their are, again, sentient. I still love digimon and I Will grind the hell out of every game just so I can thrust my face against leomon's pecs. Next order is my favorite. It's a horrible grinding game with horrendous story but raising the digimon is fun... and I need to clean less shit. Next would be digimon dusk, again, lots of digimon, a lot of grind, blah blah. I wish we could have a Stardew Valley kind of digimon game, or monster rancher. Just me raising my digimon and improving the town/city. Really, if you think team Aqua and Magma are ridiculous, you certainly haven't read any single digimon story.
Grinding face against leomons pecs hahaha No matter how you spin it, Pokemon and Digimon can both be used for gross things. Digimon however are not “real” like a Pokemon is. A Digimon is technically just data even tho it seems like an animal or something like Pokemon. That’s what I remember them being idk if that’s changed but it’s basically a virtual thing. Again I really think just those first 3 seasons do the best job out of all their anime’s.
@JerryMeehanJr ohhh you didn't play the games, right. Uhhh... in digimon world and digimon world next order, you actually have to take your digimon to do their "necessities". So, yeah, you clean their shit. Those are the games. And in the games, the villains seem to be rather silly despite the terrible stuff they do. And I do think the digimon anime quality varies a lot depending of the aspect and the generation. 1 to 3 are good, but I do think people miss how well worked digimon characters are in frontier, saver has a nice drama, and Xcross wars and it's sequel gave us the best digimon partners. Like I said, my main issue is partner digimon being such accessory to the protagonists when they are supposed to be sentient beings, their own character, but most of them fall flatter than many pokemon. Also, even tho digimon are made of Data... they still interact with humans as if they have purely physical bodies. I mean, they destroy buildings and such... ans they also did their necessities in the first digimon anime.
Really I thought that outside of Pikachu and Meowth that most of the Pokémon were pretty bland. Also the fact you have god like creatures like MewTwo getting caught by 10 year olds is lame especially since you have to order them around and for the most part are kept in pokeballs.
@bauer0788 that’s awesome to hear I’ll download the app and try it out. I’ve been playing ptcg for maybe 6 years now off and on which I love but have always wanted to try Digimon tcg I buy packs and am like wtf is this haha
I feel like Digimon could have been so much bettet if it tried to keep everything connected. In Pokémon, everything feels cohesive. Its one world and no game or anime does something that feels like it contradics what you know from other games/shows. Digimon however goes full on Multiverse and each game/anime rewrites the fundamentals of the universe itself. Even the recent movies, which are a continuation of the adventure anime, are full of inconcistencies and retcons. Also there is no mainline series with the games. Digimon World 1-4 are completely different genres. There are multiple games like World 1 or the Story games, but nothing is really established. Also the new TCG is a blast. What are you struggling with? If you have questions, I would be happy to answer.
Exactly it’s very convoluted and would do well from a main line series that keeps everything connected and considered canon. I watched the “reboot” show for 4 episodes and shut it off. There’s just too much going on that doesn’t make sense. The tcg I gave a chance with buying cards but I read them and am like wtf is this haha I’ve played the tutorial but that was it. Going to give it another go since everyone is saying it’s super easy
@@melissamurray8307 While I won't deny the upsides, Digimon just goes too far. They change the fundamental rules of the world. In Adventure, the digital world was a manifestation of the human made network, a byproduct nobody knew about. In Tamers, it's was created on purpose by a few scientists. Later its a parallel world that just happens to overlap with human technology, allowing Digimon to cross over, in Survive its literally a Yokai Realm. In Cyber Sleuth, Digimon couldn't just travel between worlds, they needed a specific time-space-anomaly or otherwise they couldn't exist in a non-digital environment. A problem that was never present before. Also they never build on top what they have. We will never learn more about the dark ocean, about the ancient digimon and the digimentals. What the "-mon" in every name even means. Yggdrasil and Homeostasis. The role of Gennai, the four Sovereigns, the angels and the god they serve or the Anubismon and the cycle of rebirth(another fundamental rule of the universe that just changes how the plot needs it). It feels more like they use it as an excuse to make up stuff and ignore the lore they already have. They just create another universe with another Yggdrasil and another Royal Knights for fanservice and it has nothing to do with anything you knew before and can(or rather WILL) contradict it. Sorry for the long rant, but it just annoys me. For me its lazy writing and ignorant towards the established fans. We are already a small fan base, why divide it even more?
@corinnepace3683 people can love both pokemon and digimon,so WTF,I don't think you understood the video very well,I don't remember him every saying he hated pokemon
Digimon is absolute trash. Community is mostly fan boys that lick the ground Japanese people walk on. There's clearly someone in the Digimon franchise with say who wants to keep it Japanese, it isn't Bandai. Their games have no consistency, they have like 2 maybe 3 that are solid good rest just feel like off shoot garbage. The Vpets and Vital bracelet releases in the last 2 yrs have been a hot joke. Severely overpriced for what amounts to a Wish smart watch and old out dated Vpet tech oh but with COLOR! Digimon is absolute garbage because ultimately it's a greedy franchise that what's to be hip and cool but yet not pokemon. So edgy I'm soooo like Pokemon I'm actually not Pokemon! That's Digimon in a nutshell. Yea no Digimon franchise has done nothing but spit in the face of Western fans despite their groveling. It's gross and Digimon just needs to fade away to the dozen other RECENT indie monster collectors that not only do it better than Digimon ever has, but better than current Pokemon.
