Sūrat al-Māʿūn (Arabic: سورة الماعون) (Small Kindnesses, Almsgiving, Have You Seen) is the 107th sura of the Qur'an with 7 ayat.
This Surah was revealed in Madina where a myriad of factions were conspiring to contain the growing Islamic influence. The Surah discusses the character of those who claim to be Muslims but are oblivious of the hereafter. These people deprive the orphans of their rights, are heedless to the dues of the destitute, and pray without holding God in remembrance, forgetting the objective behind prayer. Their charitable acts are a display of their false piety, since they do not give for the love of God.
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِِ Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi
(107:1) أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِالدِّينِ Araayta allathee yukaththibu bialddeeni
Hast thou observed him who belieth religion ?
(107:2) فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي يَدُعُّ الْيَتِيمَ Fathalika allathee yaduAAAAu alyateema
That is he who repelleth the orphan,
(107:3) (mistake) وَلا يَحُضُّ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِين Wala yahuddu AAala taAAami almiskeeni
And urgeth not the feeding of the needy.
(107:4) فَوَيْلٌ لِلْمُصَلِّينَ Fawaylun lilmusalleena
Ah, woe unto worshippers
(107:5) الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنْ صَلاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ Allatheena hum AAan salatihim sahoona
Who are heedless of their prayer;
(107:6) الَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَاءُونَ Allatheena hum yuraoona
Who would be seen (at worship)
(107:7) وَيَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ WayamnaAAoona almaAAoona
Yet refuse small kindnesses!
