There's also a third book in the series called Writing the Kanji with Ease which lists all the 1,000 or so kanji you're introduced to along with an accompanying analysis and example sentences to help you learn them. Whats best about the book though is that at the back all the lesson dialogues are written out again but only in Japanese, writing from top to bottom and with no romanji which I find a good aid to reviewing each lesson. Use the lesson text to learn and the third book to review to stop yourself becoming over-reliant on the romanji.

I just found this video now, and I've been trying to learn Japanese through DuoLingo for *so long....* Mainly because I had to guess what the connecting characters meant, like を は の へ and I really think this book will help. Your review will help in convincing my parents to buy it for me, thanks!

you should not learn duo lingo as a standalone resource, its a very small supplement. Its better to buy books like genki, assimil, japanese from zero cause they will be more helpful than apps like duo lingo :)

Great review. I recommend that you use Memrise/Quizlet/Anki as a way of remembering the new words learnt.

Sarah Fasure I've had a lot of success with memrise for my Chinese. I think I'd rather use Anki fit my Japanese, but I just need to find the right deck.

Thank you for the review. I got the Germany edition before two days and its similar to your one. I am so excited to learn Japanese and this video is so helpful and terrific.

Thanks for the review dude. I've just started learning Japanese so this was a great video to watch. I also have Japanese Zero book haha. I will watch your other videos too to see you and your daughter's progress :)

What I have found is sometime around lesson 25 it does seem to get more difficult. Longer sentence and more complex ideas. I really feel like some of this stuff now if I'm not writing it down and actively reviewing it I'm not going to remember.

Oh right. Thanks for the heads up. Do you feel like that with the spanish version as well?

Lorenzo VonMatta No, the Spanish one is more of a gradual increase. I think some of it is just how much more difficult Japanese is compared to Spanish.

Thank you very much for your review, Luke! A time ago I first heard about Assimil in combination with the KOSYS-System (hearing with the skin).

I use whiteout on the pinyin on my Assimil Chinese. Plus the mp3 version has the characters only you can print out or just view the txt.

Hello Luke My name is Matthew I have looked for these books everywhere online, and can't find any of them for as cheep as you said. I was just wondering where you bought the books + the CDs, because I haven't seen any that weren't extremely over priced.

I bought the books + CD, but looking on Amazon now I don't see the originals, just people reselling them at crazy prices. I went to the Assimil site directly and it looks like they stopped selling it, which is why I guess the prices are so high.

I heard you mention Japanese from Zero - have you done a review on those books? What did you think of them?
@lukeconner
@lukeconner 5 лет назад
I didn't, but I probably could. I think they're great to add to what you're doing. I like the way he explains stuff, and it builds on what you already learned.
