It would be so cool if the IR cam were available once it's in our hands. Glad tracks are being handled properly though, rather than just having that silly prebaked line you see in some other games.

Focusing on improving the product with things like this is more important than new content I think. We have pleantly of great cars and tracks, but the physics can be improved. Getting there guys, keep it up!

Hugo Stiglitz iRacing's feedback is certainly pretty average compared to many sims, but to say pCARS's feedback is superior to it is just hilarious.

***** I mean, the feedback is dependent heavily on your hardware. On purpose. Wheels only have rotational motors, they only send rotational data. If you want vibration, you need a simvibe or a wheel with built in vibration motors. They're waiting on hardware to develop for, not working on twisting crappy wheels to "feel nice"

Anyone with rF2 has been experiencing this for a while now, really looking forward to seeing this in iRacing. It makes the racing so dynamic and exciting and I'm sure will lead onto bigger and better things in our sim racing tech

So much awesome is happening at iRacing; simulating a dynamic race track with changing temperatures and traction levels is really lifting the game. I have been waiting for this feature in a racing sim for something like a decade.

I feel this is a much awaited update. It will definitely add to the skill. At the same time, I also feel they should improve the way safety rating is played out. I don't feel I should have a contact infraction when you hold your line in front of a car trying to pass, hits you. And it's your fault too. I could see a loss of control infraction if you went off couse or something like that. But to have 4 points taken off is a little much if you are not at fault. Love the sim. It's the best hands down!!!

I actually noticed it with the latest update. Practise times where different between sessions by a whole second. Was really cool to have a fast track and a slow track yet similar drivers

jrank1234 Sorry, RFactor 2 destroys iracing. RF2 It does everything described in the iRacing video and much more. Plus, even if you remove all these features from both games, the driving experience alone of RF2's physics and force feedback destroy IR.

BoyRacerFromSaturn5 if rfactor2 had better graphics, better sound, laser scanned tracks (let alone something that even half resembles a real track) and an online presence as big as iracing, then maybe it would come close. Unfortunately for you it will always be the poor cousin.

jrank1234 RFactor 2 has much better graphics in my opinion. IRacing is full of fake baked shadows and is set in a static time of day and has fake clouds (pictures in the sky not actually dynamically generated like in RFactor 2). RFactor 2's stock tracks are very, very good. Not as good as laser scanning but they are extremely well done so your comment about "let alone something that even half resembles a real track" is you just being a troll and proving you have absolutely no idea what you're even talking about. RF2 kills iracing except for the MP mode but I play the sim with the best driving physics and FFB since that is the point of a RACING SIM, not the most players, LOL!

First chassis torsion, now dynamic track surfaces? We may be on the (albeit slow) road to dirt! Hey, iRacing! I'll volunteer my kart to be scanned if we ever get dirt and dirt oval karts. Dead serious. My local track is up for laser scanning too! 1/10th mile dirt oval.

To quote a post by Vince R below "RFactor 2 has had real dynamic track rubbering for years where everything is dynamically calculated from every player including A.I. Even different track surfaces have different characteristics of rubber buildup and even different tires have different characteristics of rubber and marble build up. It even works the same way with wet lines and with drying lines. Even different surfaces get affected differently in the wet. Even painted lines are modelled."

Can we have that IR camera to look at tyre temps please. It would make setting up camber/pressure 10x easier and be more approachable for new member over atlas. Maybe a toggle option in the replay ?

Excellent! However, since iRacing is and wants to stay Premium I think there's no way around dynamic track, day-night transitions as well as dynamic weather. With the risk that most of the members including myself will be struggling with this new features, I still believe it is an mandatory addition to a simulation. Keep up the good work!

I'm curious if this'll cause iRacing to reconsider how qualifying happens in oval racing. Is everyone going to continue to qualify in a private session with a green track?

Please be here for the next build. Dear god I am tired of 1 groove race tracks. Michigan this week is a particular reminder of that. I want to be able to search all around the race track for that little bit of extra grip to create passing opportunities, and making all the grooves work if your car is setup for them. Etc. Please please please be in the next build.

yessss!!! i hate having to play PCars just to have a day and night cycle and weather system, go iracing, this will bring those endurance races to life, i cant wait :) please have this before 24h of spa!

BoyRacerFromSaturn5 Content. Purely content. rFactor 2's content is minimal at best. The mods are mostly half baked and often not accurate. And that depends on what you mean by "Force Feedback". honestly, rF2's feels odd and sometimes empty on a G27 because it tries to interrupt other forces from the wheel. iRacing only sends rotational data to a rotational motor. Technically, iRacing's is more correct. It might not feel better to you, but understanding what it is it feels better to me. I'm actually considering buying a simvibe just to shove it in my wheel. lol.

So your entire post about the style of FFB and which is technically more correct is a complete load of crap. Content is Minimal at best?!! LOL!!! Are you kidding me? It's real common to hear people say RFactor 2 is the best sim around even from people who play a lot of other sims. I don't hear anyone saying that about iracing except iracing fanboys, even then, many of them praise RF2's physics. Empty on a G27? LOL! You obviously have never even played RF2, wow, your entire post sounds like someone who is trying to sound like he knows what he's talking about but instead is absolutely clueless and has his facts completely wrong.

BoyRacerFromSaturn5 iRacing also generates it's forces from FFB from steering forces associated with the steering column itself, but only rotational forces. rFactor 2 adds in forces from the steering column that are non-rotational. This includes up-down/left-right movements of the steering column as well as attempts to replicate the feeling a person would feel while holding on to the wheel. The difference is that in a real car, the person is moving, whereas rFactor 2 replicates that feeling on the wheel side. At some point, due to lack of hardware on the wheel to allow for ANY OTHER FORCES THAN ROTATIONAL, they have to interrupt rotational forces to give you that "additional" feeling. This isn't a lie. It's basic fucking physics. There is no other way to add forces to the wheel other than through the ONE GOD DAMN WAY the wheel provides force, so that means that an interruption must occur to provide data. Content wise: It's got (decent) amount of content, but mostly historical content. Some of the mods are fun, but are a bit inconsistent compared to the default ISI content. ISI's own content isn't entirely up to date either, though the stuff that is is still pretty fun to drive. (I still step into the BTCC Honda cause it's super fucking fun). It's really funny when you call me out like I'm some sort of uninformed twat when I spend around 20 hours a week just scouring all the sim racing forums (including the pCars forum, even though that game is shit), but I've been sim racing for almost 15 years. I've owned games from NR1, to rFactor and "NASCAR SIM RACING" *barf*, AC, pCars, that shitty Grid Autosport game, most of the Gran Turismos, all the Forza's on Xbox 360 and even played a little Driveclub. I'm not speaking bullshit here. You cannot have 1:1 accurate FFB without the hardware. You cannot. 100%. Fact. If the wheel does not provide the methods to provide vibration forces to the wheel, or there is no method to jostle the driver around in the seat, there is 100% no way to provide FACTUAL force freedback. So, iRacing doesn't provide feedback on the forces they can't replicate via hardware means. Simple. Objective. rFactor 2's does feel nice, but like I said I get some "empty" moments where I SHOULD be feeling a rotational force that I'm not. (Eg. Certain moments in a slide while also hitting a curb, etc.) that iRacing at least offers a subtle albeit weak effect for. I'm sorry, but this childish game you're playing is ridiculous. My information is from months of just scanning forums, including ISI's. ISI has a fantastic system, and I'll flat out admit that. But they do take shortcuts too. Sometimes very incorrect ones. [But hey, I have only played around 70 hours of rFactor 2 so what would I know]

Oh god, what a load. Please show me some threads where ISI stated that they use an incorrect way of FFB. Lol. Anyways the driving dynamics of rf2 are the best in simracing. It's tire model is on another level to iracing's and is even better now with the newest updates (only affect 2 or 3 cars so far). The way the tires grip, the way cars slide, the way you handle them, everything is leaps and bounds ahead of iracing. The only thing iracing has that's better is it's multiplayer.

iRacing is an ungoing project that just keep and keep improving. Once iRacing reach a certain point, there will be no reason to play any other simulator. I mean add dynamic weather with rain, day/night transition in the mix? Oh comon this will be insane.

Pathebach RFactor 2 can already do all the track surface stuff mentioned in the video and more. Plus, if you take all of those features out of both games RF2 still blows away iRacing with it's physics and ffb. So I completely fail to see why there will be no reason to play another sim than iRacing if RF2 drives and feels better than IR.

BoyRacerFromSaturn5 No, RF2 doesn't have these features to the level iRacing is implementing them to do. The track rubber buildup is predefined and isn't affected by where the cars are actually driving, it just ups the grip as time passes. Also I don't think track temperature in RF2 is affected by sun and cars driving over it.

Finally ... I'm assuming this means that "wet" and "real weather" will be implemented? Definitely needs some "random" as I'm getting a little tired of the folks that use external apps that tell them the exact brake pressure (primarily based on USB input values) they need for each and every corner. Making a track dynamic will help reduce those "creative" (not wanting to call them cheaters) individuals that have found ways to give them an advantage.

This will be neat...but I imagine, the track is going to do what it's going to do the first time everyone races on it, and it will pretty much be the same throughout the rest of the week. Everyone is going to figure out what the track is going to do, and boom we're back to where we are now.

Now when are you guys going to create the garage area for US drivers to be able to drive out because if this is supposed to be a simulator to be really precise with what Real Racing is most of us would love to drive from the garage area out to the track for practice in qualifying and so was that I should like you know when they say that we have some damage instead of sitting in the pit box head to the garage it would take less time cause the whole crews back there but you know if you set it up it'll take you no longer but if you go into the garage area every 2 times faster that's kind of awesome to have to be just right when you load up on the screen you see your pic guy with the sign that says stop cars are going by and then he brings the sign up and you get to drive out of the garage area like they do in real life

My only problem with all of this is official races are like 30 mins max , unless were talking IMSA and maybe a few others , the track isn't going to change that much in a 30 minute session. Don't get me wrong this is great for things like the Daytona 24h or 6h of the Glen , but normal sessions hardly going to make a difference is it?

***** It can make a difference. I am not sure how much it will affect road since I run oval. For oval, this should have a pretty huge effect since they are much shorter than road courses and will probably end up getting heated quicker. Plus, there are a good amount amount of oval series that last much longer than 30 minutes. Even if it does not change quick enough, it is still pretty good for road. I guess we will have to see how much it changes the road and oval racing when they release it.

Actually, you can can turn off the wheel entirely.... just some cars still show the wheel (eg: the ones with displays typically stay to allow for you to see the display.)

It’ll never fail to amaze me at just how much Iracing dropped the ball with dynamic track. Had a really great thing going and then implemented an unfinished V7 that broke the algorithm for dynamic track to work, most noticeably on ovals. It’s been about 2 years and there’s not been any gains, and it’s a very hush hush topic. I wish there would be more clarity between the developers and those in the community about why the lack of overall progress and if there is progress, when we’d be able to see it back to something it was during V6. You guys had the right idea with V7 but I think implementing it on ovals knowing that it would destroy dynamic track was a big mistake that gets overshadowed by Iracing’s success from Covid. Hopefully you guys will get back to your roots in valuing the community’s input rather than being head over heels with the success in potentially becoming a household name. Other than this, I’ve never had an issue with Iracing and I’ll continue to support and use their program because it’s still the best thing out there. Just patiently waiting until the day when something like this makes it back again.

@@Aro3o6 they did an update in December of 2023, that has helped tremendously. The track definitely becomes wider as the run goes on, and it allows for us to run different lanes. It’s not as great as what it was in the V6 tire model, but it is a HUGE improvement from what we had during the timeline of December of 2019-December 2023. In my experience with this update, the car that allows us to move around the most is the xfinity car. But to answer your question, is that they an updated back in December of 23’ improved the racing significantly and is a good stepping stone towards better updates in the future for oval racing.

nextdrink45 You don't. Haven't you ever played RFactor 2? It does everything described in the iRacing video and much more. I get 200 to 300 fps with a gtx 980.

We still don't have multi groove racing on ovals so it clearly has been somewhat of a failure.

That's great but please work on improving the force feedback. It feels dead compared to the other sims I play. Needs more road feel. I don't even care if you add canned effects, just make it feel good, not lifeless

Hugo Stiglitz Definitely agree with that. I don't have a fancy wheel but comparing iRacing to other sims like rFactor and GSCE I can feel the road much much better in the latter 2 sims. But overall, I love how iRacing is stepping up to the plate and improving these features. It will help sim racing community as a whole as ISI, Reiza, Kunos, and Sector 3 continue to improve their respective products. :)

rancer890 I do have a fancy wheel and a few months ago, I just had a DFGT. On both wheels, the FFB in Assetto Corsa, R3E, GT6, rF2, and fuck, even Driveclub feels SO MUCH MORE ALIVE and more like you're actually driving a car. It's a shame because iracing has laser scanned tracks so every bump is there, you just don't feel them. And I've actually tweaked the FFB in iracing to perfection over time, but it still feels dead compared to other sims. Especially certain cars like the MX5 it just feels awful

Hugo Stiglitz You have to understand how they do their force feedback before complaining about it. It's pretty simple actually. Your wheel, even direct drive wheels, offer what is called a "Rotational Motor" to give the user feedback in the wheel. What iRacing does is only offer "Rotational force feedback" to the wheel. They actually have an entire thread dedicated to explaining this and what would need to happen for them to support different features. Mainly, they want people to request for vibration motors to simulate vibration without losing strength from the rotational forces. A little bit of reading goes a long way

james6m Yup and RFactor 2 also has all of this and way more. But iRacing fans are like the typical public, they just completely buy into everything their government tells them all over the crap on mainstream media. They do the same with iRacing "OMG new tyre model!!!" LOL!!!!!

gothicvillasgaming I'm using a brand new PC... But it's a laptop haha. I can manage 90 FPS with high graphics level and I have decent ping levels. So I don't need to upgrade my PC , probably just my graphics card. I'm just worried it'll be to much for my PC.

Yes this is more realistic but it is simulating a downfall of real life racing and creates a worst racing experiences for drivers. It takes away from a passing line by making it more difficult to pass on the outside and braking less effective on the inside line. In that regard I am not looking forward to this update but don't worry I still love you iRacing and won't go anywhere #my2cents

True Racer Well, in a 45 minutes race, it won't change that much i suspect. When people are battelling half the time it might spread more or farther. If it does not, well, we just have to all become lap one heroes :D . Best IRacing vid ever for me (exept Imobile).
