Sweden’s influential and long revered heavy metal giants IN FLAMES are celebrating two major milestones in 2020 with their 30th anniversary as a band, and 20th anniversary of their seminal, critically acclaimed album, Clayman.
The band recently formed a worldwide partnership with Nuclear Blast who will debut a special version of the record, Clayman 20th Anniversary Edition, honoring the breakthrough release on August 28th, 2020.
Clayman 20th Anniversary Edition features all new artwork and 5 new bonus tracks including a brand-new instrumental medley and re-recorded versions of fan-favorites such as “Only For The Weak” and “Pinball Map.”
Remastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound. "Themes and Variations in D-Minor (instrumental)" recorded & mixed by Roberto Laghi.
Re-recorded songs were produced by Howard Benson (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, MOTÖRHEAD) and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge (GREEN DAY, ROB ZOMBIE).
The record will be released digitally as well as on CD Digipak and a special 2xLP colored trifold vinyl that includes a 16-page booklet, 11 remastered tracks on a 12” record, 5 bonus tracks on a 10” record in a printed sleeve

Not gonna say nasty things about the band, just gonna be happy they're still around and haven't dissappeared into obscurity like many others did. I've been listening to In Flames for 20 years. While I haven't always liked the direction they go, I see the talent and effort put into it. I remember when Clayman came out and how much I loved it. Yes, this album is different. So what? It's damn good. Not crap or demo-y, just different.

I guess from someone who didn't hear the original before this, I can actually appreciate what they we're going for in this version since there are things I like about this one that aren't in the original and vice versa. I don't think it's objectively worse than the original I just think it comes down to preference. Although I don't know if I can say the same for Clayman.

To respond to every person posting hate comments about this version: I'm 19 now, I discovered In Flames with the original Clayman album but also Battles. Yes, In Flames changed a lot over time, and yes the re-recorded Clayman tracks are a lot different from the original album. But I have one thing to say to people who prefer the first In Flames albums like Lunar Strain, The Jester Race or the original Clayman: listen to those albums and enjoy them! But I don't get the point of coming here to listen to this version if you don't like it and to post hate comments about it... Listen and do what you enjoy instead of what you don't... I personally love all In Flames albums, even Battles and I, The Mask which also got a lot of hate, and hate me if you want but those albums also helped me through hard times like all the others... Even though I prefer the original Clayman album, I also like this one and it doesn't deserve all this hate... It's another interpretation of the original album, that is musically closer to the recent albums then to the older ones... Hope some people will agree with me about this, or will understand what I meant to say in this comment. We need some positivity and to stay together in these times when everyone is kind of alone in his bubble... Stay safe and take care Jesterheads!

To everyone that is shitting on this re-recorded version: this isn't meant to replace or disregard the original. They are celebrating the 20 year mark of one of their best albums ever made. The style has changed and they have grown. This is just them paying respect to their own music by putting a new twist on it. Some people don't like the raw sound of the old In Flames, and want to hear their new sound. I listened to Clayman all through high school and hold that album close to my heart, and while this isn't better than the original, it's still the band doing their thing. If you don't like, fine. Don't discount the legacy the album has had over the past 2 decades purely because they did this.

The Chaos is the beautiful thing on the original Clayman. Everything is loud on that Record.. do you know why? .... Because it was possible and they've done it! That was fun, never heard before and a fucking good thing! This Mix sound like it was optimized for Smartphones and Laptop Speakers. Technically good but to clean to transfer the energy of these Songs

Totally agree. The original was the perfect balance between grit and clarity. Every time those distorted guitars hit it felt impactful. This just feels so sterile, even down to the vocal delivery of the clean parts. Everything's too level, doesn't feel like there are any dynamics left. IMO the only thing the re-recordings have improved are the growled vocals, honestly.

I think it's cool and tell you why: In flames always searched for new sounds, including unusual effects and synthetic sounds. Technology today is on a new level, so to me it makes sense, that they realize their vision with new options of new Technology. (I don't want to judge, if it has the same feeling, just point out, that the innovations of in flames got better technologies today than 20 years ago and now they use them) that's very cool, I think.

The originals are always better, you will always remember them, but also remember this band has been going like almost 30 years, so band members; especially vocalists have changed. Excuse me, what the f is this? In Flames became nonexistent to me after 2002, but I've still been listening to Clayman from time to time as it was a masterpiece. And now this, which looks like an insult for all the fans of when In Flames was good. This should've never existed. But I'm glad I can go and listen to 2000's Clayman once again.

I appreciate so much, to hear these songs now, how they feel it after so many years. I don´t know any band, which kept developing all the time. Even though, if i don´t like all their newer stuff. This reminds me of battletoads, i first played the famicom version, which was absolutely amazing! Then some time later I tried the sega genesis version, it was kinda more polished and what not.. but really bland and soft, compared to the first one

Sometimes I feel like in the case of in flames you can say that the band developed further over time and their fans did not. I love the old and new stuff. Especially in this case I find the re-recorded track as good as the old one, although it is different.

The band developed alright. A love for mainstream money and riding the coat tails of Jesper during lockdown when they couldn't play their improved sound and songs for you at a live concert. I would argue that the original fan's developed a taste for melodeath and when In Flames turned their back on the genre they helped cement there were plenty of other bands keeping it real who appreciated the old In Flames fans. Of course, when Justin Bieber started losing fans that same thing happened and In Flames got his ex-fans.

A great song indeed! If the origin version never existed, I'd love it, but to my ears and personal taste, the original version is heads and shoulders above this one. To be fair, later on on the song, there are small parts that I liked here better than the original, but overall I'd just continue hearing the former one.

Honestly, if it weren’t for the godawful clean vocals, this would be a genuinely interesting track. It doesn’t have to be 1:1, but I know that even Anders is capable of better singing than that.

I don't mind the re-recording but the original is a different league. the raw-er recording on the original gave it the grit

I actually like this one more than the old one (and I literally started following In Flames because of Clayman and Colony like 20 years ago), I hope they re-record Colony songs one day, idc what in flames posers say.

To be honest, I like the scream in the re-recorded version much more than on the original version. These screams sound real this time in my opinion.

I try to find positive things from every new song I listen, but it's really hard to do that in this case when the original version exists. It's not completely terrible, but sounds almost like guitars are made with Guitar Pro or something :/

I actually like In flames more now - the clarity has improved and it's easier to listen to this on a modern music system at home or in the car. When Metallica came out with their Black album, I remember how everyone said they've sold out and no longer the good band they used to be. But Black is one of their career defining albums and is recognized as one of the finest ones in Metal. There's another section of metal fans who just diss music that sounds popular.

This is like a demo you'd send to a label in 1990 trying to get signed. With all their money...I recorded/mixed a full-length at a really good studio in 2 days, had it mastered at Audiosiege, spending about $1300 and it sounds 400% better than this. Who's idea was it to do this?
