Elon Musk’s SpaceX has successfully launched Starship, its superheavy rocket that the billionaire believes can carry mankind to the Moon, Mars and beyond.
Starship’s previous three test flights ended with a fiery explosion for the 400ft tall launcher, but each made incremental progress and gathered fresh data.
The mission had been expected to blast off from Starbase in Texas at 7am local time - or 1pm UK time - however a last minute delay has pushed the timetable back by 50 minutes. Lift off is now expected at 7.50am US central time.

I'm a driller. I was doing some offshore drilling off the coast of Long Beach and one day this thing came in on a huge barge with tug boats pushing it into the Navy section of the port. The thing had to have been like 200 to 300 feet tall. The captain of the ship made us all stop work as this thing drove by us just a few hundred yards away from us. For safety reasons... Me and my ship mates just stood there in AWE. No F$%&@&#$ way it's that big some of them said. We all pulled out our phones and took video. This inspiring moment made us all realize that we are definitely going to Mars. We drove passed Navy Destroyers every day for months that weren't even close to impressive as that thing was. Seeing this thing in person changed us all. No Cap!

For those who are not educated on this comment thread, the meaning of a "test flight" is not to go from point A to point B, it is to show the possibility of navigation to Mars and back. They are testing launch and re-entry. Compare this with the Boeing Starliner!

Everytime I see the process of SpaceX I am in awe and am filled with so much respect toward each and everyone who dared to dream. But I must admit, having followed spaceX or Mr. Musk's startup in 2012, I am beginning to wonder if NASA really did achieve what they say they did in the 60's and 70's. 12 years and thousands of dedicated people and the best engineers from around the world and SpaceX has "only" just succeeded in launching its first starship? I do understand that the starships are much bigger and the efforts put into reusing the starships by automated return and landing plus catching arms, but we still see the starship absolutely dissolving entering our atmosphere, can anyone explain this to me?

A Starship parachute is never too big for the skies. A giant parachute that can roll out from the side of the starship belly while it's facing downward on its belly when entering Earth's atmosphere and branch out to support starship and when it reaches a certain level inside the atmosphere it disconnects from starship while still connected to a long rope at the center of the parachute so when parachute pulls on starship the center will fold inward releasing the air pressure and starship could then pull the parachute back into the side of starship before it can land between the chopsticks. This will prevent the Earth's atmosphere pressure and vibrations from turning into electricity and then a burn that will eat away any material through powerful vibrations. This can also prevent crashing on impact and guarantee a safe landing which is much safer than an airplane. I know the parachute ideal will work because in the military they use parachutes to drop army tanks from the sky yes! from the sky. The rocket parachute will keep the rocket supported and safe from the atmosphere pressure. The parachute can also take a lot of pressure off of the heat shields and guarantee a safe landing on Mars. A roll in and out mechanism parachute system is another good operational option for SpaceX starship landing..

When they master the flip burn Will the space team be working on more difficult maneuvers double flip twist; or a pike; or my favourite a rear reverse twist When will they begin judgeing these landings by holding up a score card. e.g. score 9.9 on the reverse double twist with minimal splash on re-entry.
