Yanis Varoufakis, Academic Economist, Parliamentarian, Political Leader and Greece’s former Finance Minister, Addresses the National Press Club of Australia.
We need to keep Yanis in Australia because he is sharp, experience, intelligent, informative & he is an Australian. The US is digging their graves and taking us down with them.
@@Ocean___Blue + " greece would be in deeper sshht now!!!!" We don't now that. "DONT BITE THE HANDSS THAT FEED AND HELP YOU...." Exactly the same word of feudalism elite during feudalism or slaver owner during slavery.
Yanis Varoufakis: “US is actively creating the threats and then make us(Europe, Australia) pay through the nose, to be protected from the same threats” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The US didn't create the threat from Hamas, Russia, the Houthis, North Korea, or any other. There is a circle of remarkably unintelligent, sneering, dishonest people who like to place every evil at the door of the civilized world.
Yanis Varoufakis toured Australia as a guest of the Australia Institute, it's been fantastic seeing the response. The Australian public is ready for bold ideas! We just need the Government to step up and deliver them. You can read the transcript of his address on our website, link in bio.
I have been following Mr Varoufakis since my attention was draw to Europe and Greece in 2010-11...At that time I too was curious to see if the political decision makers and business leaders would pay attention to what he & others were warning us all about (the fallout from a massive global financial crisis)...Sadly and the only ppl who paid attention & acted were the women & men in charge of the CCP...Indeed amongst EUs so-called elites he was described in awful terms...
@trinitiusw6145 What you just said is a fantasy Reality is when the truth hurts someone's interest, there is a consequence. A recent example is John Barnett

I think it's uber cool that yanis taught in sydney for some years, he really loves and knows aussie culture - I think he understands that most aussies give zero fks about the aristocracy, and when given the chance, will listen to reason

He has multiple books, and a documentary about him. His latest book technofeudalism is excellent I highly recommend. He is Marxist on the left though, but very intelligent and logical.

Did you watch the painful docu film called Trust a fall on Assange? It’s a must! Those nasty CIA and American government are truly the modern day Nazis pretending to be the free world!
Brings tears and deep foreboding to hear Yanis speak to Julian's desperate plight. What that poor man has been through. The pain and suffering he has been forced to endure and still continues is a criminal act played out for all to see. It's so disgusting.
@@radams2403 it broke my heart to watch that docu on Assange released all over Aussie cinemas, called The Trust Fall, it was painful to see how vindictive and fascistic the uSA and Uk governments are in Assange’s incarceration! The Swedish people colluded yet lied, about the rape, and then the Aussie government had more loyalty to the uSA as their lapdogs instead of protecting their citizenship It’s all a scary signal for any of us who are citizens of these countries that our government won’t protect us! When exposing the brutal truth is seen as a crime and criminal genocide is backed by billions we know we live in the ‘hunger games’ dystopia!
The other was Francesca Albanese the UN rapporteur! Who ran rings around our Nazi press people asking her very pro zionist questions. Ashe was marvellous!

Fantastic interview. Really enjoyed listening to Yanis. Real shame and travesty we don't have comparable intellectuals with the same level of competence, integrity or fortitude to guide our great nation through this choppy period.
The WMD fiasco pales in comparison to the modern lies, which saw us starving Yemen, and simultaneously arming Nazis in Ukraine, Zionists in Israel, and Al Queda in Syria.

So funny them clapping at the idea of ending the rentier economy and real estate ponzy scheme, building social housing, like ... these ghouls are the propaganda arm of Australia's rentier class, JFC.
Unfortunately, true... they are just puppets gone with the wind... such young potential tooo silent about devastating truth that is overcoming ignorant Australia... if they are not to rise their voices certainly will not ordinary voiceless migrants... Australia is in dicey
The Australia we live today would crawl up Satan’s arse if Blinken asked. Our response to warmongering in China embarrassing… Albanese’s answer to Israel’s Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing not exemplary.
@buildmotosykletist. And you're a genocide supporter. By the way, do you consider Vietnamese as terrorists in their armed struggle to throw their French colonial master and US empire imperialist out of their country?
@buildmotosykletist. Oh, that's your "trump card". In other videos, Yanis had condemned the taking of hostages. If anyone had asked him at the that address, I'd have no doubt that he would have called for the release of many of the 5,000 to 10,000 prisoners (many would say hostages, held by Israel), as well as the 200+ hostages held by Hamas.
I like the way when one of the people asking questions brings up the tired old trope of Greeks avoiding taxes (as if that had anything to do with the discussion and is purely a dogwhistle racist attack because he's Greek) and Yanis silences him by pointing out how Amazon, which makes billions in profits pays ZERO tax. No response from that guy after that. As Yanis has said other times, Greece and other European countries where corruption and tax evasion exists, are just small fry, petty bourgeois tax dodgers, whilst rich industrial countries with their hugely profitable companies and banks are industrial-scale corruption and tax evasion and in the bigger picture, much more harmful. Yanis is one of the greatest intellectuals of our time. Lucid, eloquent and always a pleasure to listen to.
Australian politicians should listen and learn from Yanis. We must not blindly follow US. The main stream media should invite more people like Yanis to have open and unbiased discussions.
Thank you Yanis Varoufakis, it is long overdue that the Australian people hear the truth about what is going on in the world and Australia's role and complicity. This truth has been held back from the Australian people by a US dominated media that the Australian Government have only too willingly gone along with.
Australian political scientists, politicians, policy-makers, industry groups, business councils, unions, business leaders, banks and anyone with a long-term interest in Australia should listen carefully to Yanis' address. His global experience, economic analysis and fearless advice and advocacy are a rare combination. To hear an address that not only questions the status quo but also points to its detrimental impact on the nation makes his address worthy of further debate. Australian shibboleths are squarely and rightly in his cross-hairs. Take the astute holes and houses reference for example. What resonates with me in listening to this address throughout is: As our economies embrace cloud capitalism, whose interests are we serving? Who is benefiting from the New Cold War? What can and should we learn from China? How should Australian sovereignty be preserved? And ultimately, do our leaders have the right courageous vision to deliver for all Australians?
The Greeks they did that once and they end up in ruins, This guy cost Greece more than 30 bill Euros. I still pay for his stupidity 400 euros a month since 2015
@@sakisathan9176 you don’t suppose the strong arm of the IMF did this? You forget that poor countries are forced to remain poor! We need to change our political and banking systems! We need to overthrow capitalism!
@@gerryburntwood9617 Whatever takes the place of capitalism will only be subverted adnd distorted toward those with power and influence. It's human nature. So let's try evolution before we go revolution, it's a lot less chaotic.

While we are sleeping... good terrain corrupt government, warmongers and corpmafija to implement their toxic agenda... wake up Australia, you are in danger

I’m not Greek but has been around Yanis even with his support for Corbyn whom the Zionazis in the UK smeared, Yanis was my teacher on many issues which informs my political thinking! and I suggest you join the big DIEM 25 movement, with progressive thinking people!
@@gerryburntwood9617 Well, thanks for that, mate. I'll check it out. This mate, is amazing. I didn't realise that he has a Aussie Passport as well. Wow! Australia really need to take action on his advice. I was thinking the same way as Yanis (but not so eloquently ... so I don't want to insult the bloke). But his advice to Australia is spot on. We are in the Asian region of the World. The only country that has bailed us out in the past, has been China (with the 2008 Global economic crisis, Australia was spared the disaster ... because ... China helped us out by buying, and paying, 10 years of Coal supply to us ... which shielded us Aussie citizens). Yanis English is very good, considering he was born in Greece.
@@dranzacspartan8002 if you also watch on you tube another brilliant Aussie the late great John Pilger, on his documentary the coming war on China, it shows how the USA has surrounded China with its army bases , situated in USA friendly countries like Singapore, Australia etc, so who actually is provoking a war? It certainly not China which has no bases near the USA shoreline! The Ukraine war is also a US proxy war Maa they openly decided to ignore the Minks agreement, to enable them to arm Ukraine so it can fight the Russians! It’s all too dirty this need for USA to feed its military industrial complex with ongoing wars while we all suffer austerity as our puppet leaders follow the USA, and thus no money left for our own citizens as it goes to bolster wars which the US creates.
@@lowkeyconvert8971 Mate, I'm an Aussie Greek, and my Aussie Greek mates and I aren't racist. After all, Aussies come from all over the world (197 Countries in the World ... and they're all represented here). Why? Because Australia is the modern day Noah's Arc. Proof? We have the Southern Cross hovering over our heads, 24/7. You see, all the smart ones left their Motherlands and migrated to Australia. We're just having a coldie, snags on the Barbie, surfing, and taking care of our beautiful sheila's (prettiest in the world). When the Northern Hemisphereans blow each other up, we Aussies will venture back to our Motherlands and reintroduce our Cultures ... BUT ... with Aussie values. Shouldn't you be running off somewhere, clobbering someone else on the head? We're busy here.

Yanis, I’ve been saying this all along and I’m no graduate of any prestigious university. The US wines and dines you but it has an agenda and we are sucked in. Australian needs to think on it own feet and not be beholden to the US interest. Right now the US has brought in hundreds of trucks through the Rafah crossing within a span of days to build the port in Gaza but thousands of trucks full of humanitarian aid couldn’t go in in the last five months. Explain this hypocrisy…

Yanis is the man. Whenever a new talk or interview of his pops up, its always worth listening too. You always learn something new or get a new perspective on something you thought you were familiar with.
Australia has some of the best universities in the world. On a per capita basis, more great intellectuals are based in Australia than in Europe these days.
We get to listen to Yanis for '2 minutes'.....now we can all go back to listening to the musings of great local minds - Jacqui Lambie, Pauline Hanson, Albo, Dutton.....
🤣🤣🤣, it’s funny but also sad! We keep hearing the same rubbish day in day out in aus, and even my so called educated friends when challenged spew that rubbish! Join Diem25 a big progressive movement with Yanis…. For your sanity!
this was such a mic drop moment that builds here 41:13 "socialism for the bankers and austerity for everyone else" - absolute bombshell, this is the reality of the past several decades that skillful propagandists like rupert murdoch have been distracting us from - massive thx to yanis for bringing these key insights, i hope we protect this guy
That’s how the rich benefitted, look at how much Blair the war criminal is worth now despite blood on his hands, Boris Johnson made millions by corruption!, while we the many lived in forced austerity!
Sounds fine until he brings in renewables. Its fine for running lightbulbs but not heavy industry, without fossil fuels production of steel is not possible. Unless you bring in nuclear power Aust will be sliding into a backwater. Where its heading now, nuclear power is a not even on the horizon as it takes years to build plants. Relying on service industries renewables not the way to go for Aust when it has abundance of coal, and gas off the WA coast. Supporting whatever the US dictates for its geopolitical economic future is why we might be fighting another war for the US with China. "Understand what's going on" Gonzalo Lira
Why bother having a replies when Google censors and removes them right before your eyes. Like mushrooms they keep us in the dark and feed us BS. Thank you Google.
Thank you Yanis for your support of Julian Assange and unfailing humanism. I can recommend your excellent book Techno Feudalism. Your dad must be proud watching you from heaven .
Its amazing how we all know what policy corrections are required and yet the capture and corruption of our failured system is so entrenched, nothing ever changes.
Excellent presentation, Yanis! Yet one area of push back relating to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Why is Russia’s response not justified when they had long declared their red line and the U.S. had financed the overthrow of a democratically elected Ukrainian government committed to NATO neutrality? The U.S. then began arming the newly installed Ukrainian government and even built military bases.
Great to see this message from Yanis has reached our shores, i think what Yanis spoke of today takes extremely great strength, courage and faith, in HUMANITY. Unfortunately our politicians here in australia lack all these qualities and that is why we never hear these ideas from our local representatives. A leader is someone who brings ideas to solve our problems, a agent is someone who brings no ideas, only a directives. Unfortunately we here in australia have no leaders, only agents who do the biddings of their masters.

Very good talk by Yanis Varoufakis BUT how many of those Aussie journalists are objective and clear minded in putting Australia's interests 1st? Dont be surprised if many of them are on the direct or indirect payroll of the CIA or NED.
One by one ... Mr. Y.V. provided clear and focused Answers and Proposals. Certainly disruptive but practical, fair and logical at the same Time .Most appreciated as this is not a moment for ....more Business as usual.
I really liked his solutions to solving for hegemony of the large tech companies and their tax avoidance. We do need a digital bill of rights and a way to facilitate monetary transactions without a bank.
Yanis speaks the unvarnished truth! Australian must take note. Australia must look after its in interest and not blindly follow the USA. Aukus serves no useful purpose for Australia! Nuclear submarine serves no purpose for Australia! Aistralia's interest must not be aligned with US interest. China has no enmity with Australia. Australia cannot be obsequious to the USA as it is now seen to be by the world at large!
Wow! How Prime Ministerial is this! By God I would give my left pinky finger for someone like this to be our PM! Maybe twiggy should fund his campaign for a win win outcome we can all benefit from for generations to come! We’ve allowed our glorious land of opportunity to be sold off for nicks! What a waste of talent, resources and aspirational humanity we’ve watched happen to us! Come on Australia let’s be awesome, let’s be great again! Off with the skinny jeans and back into boardies and thongs ( ok maybe not that far) but we’re too American now! Great Southern land over being a Swifty any and every day!!!!!!!
You have, but when you're a visitor to the country you can say anything you like. If he had to be in Albos Trumps or Putin's shoes he wouldn't last a week.
@SocialTransmission I'm not talking about that and you just gave me two examples. The global media is now almost instant and Australia is the worst. That's why you called them nut jobs because that's the information you're presented with. The establishment hate these people with a passion including this man. This man is also muzzled because doesn't say things he should. Why do they hate these people? Because they are not toeing the global establishment line and are going against their globalist agendas, some of the people I mentioned even look after their people. Scott is the very worst of the establishment and you can't see the difference. Educate yourself.
How many of these clapping journalists will go on to write even fabricate..." China is bad stories "... because their paymaster demanded...required this...😅
Have always respected and enjoyed Yanis' speeches for their intelligent and intellectual contents. Alas, for all his wisdom and political experiences though, his knowledge of China has proven to be somewhat deficient. As a Chinese born in Hong Kong who have spent fifteen years living in the Western world and currently residing in Hong Kong, I can honestly say that while China still has a lot of room to improve on both the social and political front, it is nothing like what Yanis (or his friends) has described it to be. I would suggest that Yanis (this applies to all foreigners too) spend more time visiting China and seeing China for himself instead of relying on third party recounts which could be distorted/subjective despite the best of intentions.
You should mostly be proud of the rural yiayia’s and papou’s that kept the true faith, empirical language and meaningful pageantry over centuries while the elite avoided honour to become ‘Europeans’ or Turks . Sons and daughters of Greek industrialists like Mr Varoufakis and his wife have the the privilege of levering the humble Greeks’ legacy with his obvious intellect, but to only steer Hellenism towards a airy fairy moral relevatism just like Kissinger wanted.
I don't he is the son of an industrialist. My understanding is that he is an engineer that was imprisoned during the junta. Also greek is not a singular, and associating him with hegemonic genocide probably a little far fetched.

Same here. I remember the photo of him being isolated by the rest of the economic ministers of the Eurozone at one of those first crucial Troika meetings negotiating for Greece's urgent bailouts. He was starkly iconoclastic. Absolute stuff of legend.
At the moment Australia has a colonial administration not a government representation of its people. We need a change of the system, before any positive outcome can be achieved.
Would love to have Yanis here in NZ as a guest speaker in various institutions to provide a balance of thought that our new coalition just does not have a grip on.
