Ugly laws were a real thing in the past though. If you were deemed unsightly (poor, disfigured or just disabled in general) you could be put in jail or institutionalized.
i clicked on this video as a joke, i was not expecting to be thoroughly flabbergasted and kept on the edge of my seat throughout the video….i actually really enjoyed this LOL
I feel like I would be an invisible peon, not ugly but not beautiful enough to end up in a high up management position. People with average looking faces or who look plain are probably going to be ignored which in my opinion is probably the best case in the scenario because you're not going to turn into a spoiled entitled brat and you're not going to be hunted down like a dog for being ugly.
Mei's loyalty is to be praised. He only wants the person he once served to be back to who she was before, even joining forces with someone he was ordered to kill
I like how it explores the fickle nature of beauty. From the wrong angle or under bad lighting the beauty score plummets, proving that anyone can be made ugly by perfectly normal, common situations. It's therefore an impossible standard, and you will only go crazy trying to meet it all the time
I thought this was a video essay about beauty in our society and it took me like 14 minutes to realise that this was, in fact, not a super long intro by talking about a beauty anime and instead a review/retetelling of said anime...💀
As someone who used to be infamous in my town for being the ugliest person, I confirm that it pretty much sets you for failure and you'll always struggle to find a job or have a police give a damn about you. I don't need a wholeass anime to remind me of this...
Damn, at first I thought it was one of those silly anime but actually it turned out to be pretty decent. I guess it's Chinese anime? I live in South Korea where the beauty standard is insane. Everyone openly judges each other's appearance here, so I kinda felt relatable watching it 😂 Anyways, thanks so much for the video.
It's a dual edge sword. To openly judge is nice because you get to see the window of what the people are thinking about (wether you want to do something about it is upto you lol). On the other hand it can cause disdain especially among the younger people (teens, obsessive young adults and such). Another pro is that ppl in the streets on average are cleaner by a certain degree over societies that don't have a open judgement on appearance (making it feel easier to go out on whatever).
@@T-TruxFashion Fascists vs motherf*cking transformers. This actually sounds like a cooler idea for a show all the "beautiful people" who are spoiled and stupid vs the "ugly people" who are actually smart and competent and capable of building shit like this because life wasn't handed to them
My middle school science teacher always told my stupid classmates: "This country needs all kinds of people. No matter who they are. Idiots, smarts, weaks and strongs. All kind of"
Knowing how prevalent and advanced China's beauty filters and culture regarding beauty, really let you appreciated this anime more. Their beauty filters and standards are on a completely different level from the rest of the world it's crazy.
i would prefer to see a group of vigilante in that world, The Hair Burner, The Scar Maker, The Face Puncher, The Clothes Shredder, The Permanent Painter, and more...
From 1867 to 1974, various American cities had ugly laws (officially know as " unsightly beggar ordinances"). These laws made it illegal for people who looked different because of diseases, injuries, or deformities to be out in public. For example, in 1867, San Francisco made it a crime for such individuals to be seen in public. If caught, the police could arrest and put them into jail.
"Wow… this anime exactly represents Korea where everything is beauty standard even some companies see beauty of a person and then give a job …." I'm surprised they're still alive. Guy1: We need someone to monitor this nuclear reactor. Guy2: We should hire someone qualified. Guy3: No. See that girl over there. She's hot. And blonde. We'll hire her. Guy1: Agreed. We'll put here in charge of monitoring the reactor. Let's tell her. Girl: How do I work the weather app on this phone again? BOOOOOOM!
This Anime really teaches a good lesson. If air quote beautiful people can actually rule the world, the world really needs fixing since people should be equal, and only a persons personality is what makes them pretty ugly depending on how they really are.
I don't wanna be this bitch buuuut Istg if you keep not putting the sources in the description... I might "poke" you with a "spoon" :3 Thank you pookie bear, take care...
yea maybe more of ah "MC is op because he hot" and it really just MC being treated differently because he is hot and highlighting that in a serious or comical way, i prefer serious with a bit of humor.
"several criminals have been caught trying to alter their appearances via surgery", man that's brutal, imagine if this was real life and you got arrested for getting plastic surgery 💀, which for some people is a last resort
In real life this nonsense would not be sustainable. Its easier to become ugly than it is to become beautiful. The beautiful ones would be left to live in constant fear and paranoia that friends and foes alike will try to mar their appearance. One misstep and suddenly its you who's on the wrong end of the law.
This reminds me a lot of the "Autodale" series of animations. It's about a post-apocalyptic dystopia where everyone lives in a city where everyone is "pretty". People who don't conform or meet the city's standards, are killed. Characters in Autodale wear masks similar to those worn by the prison guards in ugly gate prison.
Literally a representation of pretty privelage. The pretty people here has it better and the ugly ones dont but the truth is that the word pretty and ugly isnt real and it doesnt actually exist. Both the ‘pretty’ and ‘ugly’ has it hard no matter the privelage they get. In the end, they both have problems but different ways society views them
it depends ik pretty girls that have had really bad experiences because other girls were jealous and would essentially spread rumors about them being sluts and just socially isolate them
