French and British colonial songs: Our army is the strongest, we fuck up everything that stands in our way German colonial songs: I fell in love with a girl but she isnt interested
Isn't someone gonna mention the fact that he kinda treated her like a savage with "and then she went in the town dancing without clothes nor underwear" ?
I’m from Tahiti and it’s actually not that rare for us to have some Germanic blood in us. If you come here you’ll find Tahitians with Dutch, English, French and German ancestry.
Imagine being a German and traveling all the way to Somoa and met a girl, you've liked her and confessed your feelings and she told you she is married. *Then you travelled in Poland and the Polish girl tells you she has a boyfriend*
Netherland soldier: "Girls from Java love us!" Austrian soldier : "You should meet italian women!" French soldier: "Indochinese girls love our company" British soldier: "Girls from India are really into us" German soldier from Samoa or little polish town: Puts muzzle of Gew98 into mouth...
American Soldier: "Those Filipino girls are wild" Soviet Soldier: "I guess that was also true of the Berliner women we met..." Japanese Soldier: "Nanking, same here..." Turkish Soldier: "At least you guys had some women left, it was boring af in west Armenia" Neo-Tibetan Empire Soldier: "What time do we live in?!"
@@vgjl1824 Somewhere in Cuba commiting cool war crimes with Blas Villate, but yeah Cuban girls also liked them, not like those Virgin Prussians. Chad empires club is consitent of all empires aging more than 47 years
I mean, it sounded like he literally just asked if he could walk with her, and she completely flipped out. Probably wasn't the first time a German had walked up to her, and I'm guessing the other times, they weren't so friendly. 19th-Century imperialism. Gotta love it.
Vlad The Impaler id love Togo to Hawaii but as you said homelessness, drug abuse and I’m assuming massive hordes of tourists (ironic because I’d b a tourist)
My fiancee is Samoan and was taught German by her grandmother who leaned from her grandmother who dated a German Sailor briefly before leaving to fight in WW1 Edit: we just had our first child Heidi Mahina Shiflet
That's actually kind of sad to me. The one German who doesn't get friendzoned goes to fight in one of the most brutal wars in history, and the girl he left behind taught her future family how to speak German. Keep that tradition alive.
Ah yes, the typical German march. They always contain at least one of the following topics: Girls Kameraden Beautiful bits of nature Cities or villages Just general happiness Diseases (Feel free to add to the list in the comments) Have a nice day!
This is a great song. Beautiful woman adores and is loyal to her husband and sings her praises of him. And instead of being bummed you realize 'holy smokes i'm on an island full of these loyal women and they are dancing with very little on!'
For a colonial song, this is a very harmless and humorous song. It's a tldr version of a imperial German dude saying "aw darn it. I got denied by a Polynesian girl. I did my best though."
In my opinion, it‘s very akin to modern day German Schlager. If I would‘ve heard this without knowing it was a sailor‘s song, I would‘ve guessed it was much newer.
I remeber my cousin who went to Samoa. He asked an girl out and she said no. When he came home he said he asked an girl on Samoa and played: "In Honolulu" the rest of the day.
@Indian Fascist Just saying, polynesians aren't black, but are more similar to the people.of Indonesia and Madagascar. But they are still brown so in that case just about the same to blacks for the Nazis.
British sailors: RULE BRITANNIA BRITANNIA RULES THE WAVES French sailors: "We'll rule the seas and become the best and most powerful country" American sailors: "Fuck yeah Manifest Destiny" German sailors: "I got rejected"
sure you can , i am learning german by myself with little external teachers, i am mostly learning german by myself and i think i am going alright, i have heard many stories of people using Duolingo and babel for german practise, which they reached the level b2 and even c2, soo yeah you can lear german its not as hard as you think.
@@andrewryan4417 since by definition? a sailor can be anyone who travels the seas for goods or military purposes, which would be navy, the title doesnt explicitly say they are warring sailors, but with outside info if the song is actually a navy song, then it would be.
@@Apogee012 If that was the case, then sorry as nobody said sailor prior to your comment. Otherwise, we've been talking about the German Kriegsmarine all this time.
For all the confused people this song is not about Honolulu or Hawaiians but about how similar it is too Samoa which is why he says in Honolulu as a reference. Love both places btw It is about a german getting rejected by a local. Also the flag and country shown is German Samoa
Response to getting rejected - A regular guy: gets support from friends and family A real man: creates an entire song about it to be sung centuries later for the rest of us..
"Miss, may I accompany you on a walk?" "Oh no! I'm married and have been for a long time!" *Procceeds to make song talking about how he got rejected and goes to see little girls dance in town wearing only a leaf skirt.*
@@user-en7id3rw3e Mädchen is a weird word because it usually means girl but it can also mean young woman. Something that is also important to look at is that these song were probably written by/for young men
I always wondered how things on youtube could get from "aw man i feel for you, cuz you rejected" or "SIMP" and lead to arguements about Monarchy, Fascism,Politics and German patriotism
Sure thing they know! They will ask nicely and when you politely refuse they will sign The Munich Agreement with Brits, Frenchies and Italianos and take half of your beautiful country and fuck up everything.
> gets friendzoned > Proceeds to join this weird club called the Thule society > Gets a spiffy new black uniform later on as the club pres gets "promoted" > Takes part in a little tomfoolery that lasts from 1939 - 1945 > Proceeds to spend the rest of life in Argentina after the party ends Profit ?...... **Wait**
I love how Germany was begrudgingly a colonial power in the late 1800s and early 1900s, which is reflected in their colonial songs (especially this one)
I wonder what Samoans think of Germany today? Do our two countries still have good relations and is there still any German traces left? I‘m really curious as Samoa is probably the most obscure of all the German colonies...
From what I read, the Samoans didn’t give a damn about the Germans and actually were friendly to each other. And for the traces of German, they don’t speak their language, but no doubt there is a tiny amount of German blood in them.
It is friendly. But that is partially because the German Governor to Samoa, Wilhelm Solf, was a Chad who respected the native cultures and was respected in return. There was a small uprising of Chiefs due to the social upheaval of electing non-chief Samoans to offices, but the rebels were deported to Saipan after being negotiated down the first time. His wife and daughter also opposed the Nazis. Respecting the Samoan culture as he did, his daughter was named So'oa'emalelagi Gräfin von Ballestrem, which in the Samoan language means ‘She Who Has Come From Heaven’.
