I was there. I was a sergeant in the East German army from 1985 to 1988. I was number 389 in the west German embassy in Prag . I remember it as if it was yesterday when they announced from the balcony that we are free to leave for the west. But the nightmare began afterwards. The hate between the east and west Germans that goes on to this day. I left Germany finally for the USA in 1996. These days I spend my time living van life on the west coast during the summer and on my sailboat in Key West during the winters. I am finally truly free.

the actor pretending the major in ddr is one of the best german actors,,, his perfomance in the downfall [der untergang] as german nazi general during the battle of berlin was outstanding,,, er hat meine bewunderung,,,, takis from athens greece

Having spent 7 days in GDR in 1988 as a tourist i remember be monitorized closely by the stasi agents..disguised as tourist guides..it was evident that some discontent existed..watching this very good film i reminisce those days ..in a country and a system that does not exist anymore...

I was living in West Berlin in1981-1982 looking from West Berlin platform to East Berlin give me bad feelings .But I was treated by West Berlin authorities like trash becose I came from Poland during Marshall laws.,but I like West Berlin because reminded to me my home town former Landsberg/Warthe I spoke German language but I decided to emigrated to Canada

Problem with east german it didnt trust it people and stasti was out of control or aka have too much power this is what vietnam govt say when they talk about east gernan and it stasti , there lot to learn from stasti they are extremely good of what they did , but no one should learn or do the shit stasti did and i think we now seeing stasti 2.0 with NSA after 911 where they monitor everyone
