BIRTH
The Late Mary Nzisiva was born on 11th May
1984 to Ndambuki Mutevu and Wayua Ndambuki at Nzeve Village, Kawongo Sub - Location,
Yatta Division, Kitui District. She was step-daughter to Nzembi Ndambuki, and sister to the late Nyerere, the late Martha, Nduku Muema, Kasyoka Muinde, Nguuti, the late Musembi, Nzioka, Kitonga, Cecilia Kithuku, Kinyambu, Mutevu, Wambua, Mbevi, Magdalene Muange, John Ndambuki,
the late Kanini, Musyoki, and Mwendwa Ndambuki.She was sister in-law to Mwende Nguuti, the
late Muli Kang’esa, Muema Mwalimu, Muinde Mutua, Benedict Kithuku, Vetha Kitonga,
Jacinta Wambua, Purity Mbevi, Muange Ndinza, Margaret John, and Eunice Musyoki.
EDUCATION
Mary attended Nzeve Primary School from
1991 to 1999. She joined Maliku Girls’ Secondary School in 2000 and completed her Kenya
Certificate of Secondary Eduction (KCSE) in 2003 where she passed with flying colors. She
later joined the University of Nairobi, Lower Kabete Campus for a Bachelors degree in Commerce from 2006 graduating in 2009. During the same time she became a Certified Public Accountant. She was currently pursuing Master of Science in Finance at Kenyatta University.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE
Mary met and married Shadrack Mwendwa Mwinzi in the year 2009. Together they were
blessed with three beautiful children namely; Grace Kambua, Pascaline Mutheu and Rita
Kavinya.
Through marriage, she became daughter-in-law to Mwilu and Mwinzi Nzuki and step-daughter-in-law to Esther Mbete Mwinzi of Musengo Village. She was sister in law to Adv & Mrs Nzuki Mwinzi, Dr. Muusya Mwinzi, Dr. Dina Mwinzi (PS), Mr. Mbangu Mwinzi, the Late Ngei Mwinzi & Josephine Nyenya, the Late Eunice Mule, Felix & Mrs Kilungya, Mr. & Mrs. Onesmus Mwinzi (Advocate) Mr. & Mrs. Robert Mwinzi (NHIF), Mr. & Mrs. Nzolya, Lilian Mburu, Felix Mulyungi & Gladys Mwinzi (CRA), Mr. & Mrs Peter Mwinzi (Masii), Florence & Leonard Munyao & Caroline & Emmanuel Kyalo.
She was cousin to Eng Mutili, Prof. Wali, Muteti, Katunge Wambua, Musyoki, Kitonyo, Wambua, Wanna, Mbusi, Jackline, Jane, Mulwa, Kyalo, and Ndolo Kitundu among many others.
She was auntie and friend to many.
WORK LIFE
Mary worked at CARE International Kenya,
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), International Center for Research in Agriculture and
Forestry (ICRAF), Mannion Daniels Africa
( MDA) and lastly at World Wide Web Foundation (WWWF) where she worked as a Finance
Manager till her demise.
CHURCH LIFE
During her childhood and young adult life,
Mary was a committed member of the Catholic
Church. Later in her marriage she transitioned
to AIC and congregated at both AIC Musengo
and AIC Nkoroi in Ongata Rongai. She was an
active member of various ministries in the latter
congregation, and a member of Ushirika
Womens Group.
SICKNESS AND TRANSITION
Mary lived in good health for the better part of
her life. However, in early 2023 she started
experiencing ill health and on 25th July 2023
she was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia
(AML); a type of blood cancer. She was admitted at MP Shah Hospital, Aga Khan University
Hospital and in early October 2023 she was
transfered to Apollo Hospital in Ahmedabad
India for bone marrow transplant (Stem Cell).
In late March 2024 she came back home after a
successful transplant.
She stayed at home for three weeks after which
she developed complications related to Graft
Versus Host Disease(GVHD). As a result, she
was admitted at the Aga Khan University
Hospital for management until her demise on
22nd May 2024 at the age of 40 years..
