She's going to ride with that lie all the way to the grave. Ain't no way a 14 year old boy gonna overpower a grown woman, unless he was 170 + lbs, and stood 5'7" tall. And since no court then ,or now will hold her accountable for her actions, there's no sense in her telling the truth. Unless it's to relieve herself of guilt. She had no remorse then, doubt she'll have any now. It won't bring Emmitt back. And his mother won't be able to feel any closure either. The only consolation of this is Carolyn Bryant Dunham won't be alive to spit her brand of racist venom for much longer if she is as frail as we are led to believe.

I believe she knew...unless she buried her head in the sand all the while?! 🤦‍♀️ In those days it was the "norm" to beat/kill a black person they don't even need a reason. She has to know the situation around her. They didn't even care about them still being kids. They bombed churches with kids in them etc etc etc. NOW,if you said she was scared, then I could see that point of view. Not saying it's okay but I could understand it better.

But I doubt she knew Emmitt was going to be executed here is something that doesn't add up .They knew where to go to find Emmitt how did they know that? I doubt she knew the story goes they went there and said where is the fat yankee boy who was shooting his mouth off. So if this is true they already knew who he was and they brought Emmitt to Carolyn to id him even if that is so seems somebody else informed them possibly before.

@@randyharris3175 I understand you're not trying to justify it. All I am saying is no matter what the circumstances she had to know something would happen to Emmett. She has to know as soon as she identifies him he's in big trouble. If she lied as well even worse. I can't see any way out for her besides being scared and pressured by the society she was in at the time,and her husband/family etc.

Emmett never touched that lying b**h!!! The only thing that may have been problematic is that Emmett placed his money for his candy in Carolyn Bryant's hand, and not on the counter as was customary when dealing with white people. Yes, he whistled, but that's all he did. Emmett had polio as a child and it left him with a bad stutter. He never would have been able to say everything she said he did without stuttering heavily!! She testified on the witness stand that Emmett spoke with a "northern dialect," but she said he did not have impaired speech. Again, she was lying because he stuttered! She lied to her dying day!

Wouldn't that have been a natural reaction unless she liked the attention. This woman will never tell the truth and this is why: She wants people to believe that he did what she's accusing him of to say that he in fact crossed a line that required a consequence BUT never did she think it would result in death. She will speak the truth on her deathbed. Carolyn was approximately seven years older than Emmett. When I was 14 years old, I had the highest respect for people older than I. Today when we compare ages, we find that we were showing “much respect.” Emmett was no exception. Carolyn is definitely lying. I was a child too!

@@DubBeats It may be just as you said. What she testified in court ( he grabbed her waist) was what she wanted him to do but he didn't. She probably checked him out and thought he was handsome. He noticed her checking him out and gave a whistle in response. But she realized that he called her out ( with the whistle) for looking at him and got embarrassed. She was embarrassed because she knew that he knew she made a pass at him and someone else might know what she did. So she got angry and put the rest of that scheme together. His whistle was probably an innocent gesture of acknowledgement but she hated that she felt that way also as a married woman. They won't prosecute her in this life but SHE WILL BE JUDGED.

Even if he grabbed her the punishment does not fit the crime either way. Emmit didn't die in vain though. The courage of his mom to make the world see what was done to her son was and still is an incredible force. She even had to fight to get his body and bring him to Chicago. The authorities wanted to bury him right away so no-one could see. The fact that they could sit, kiss and laugh during that goat rodeo of a trial is what evil is. Carolyn has two sons. Zero empathy. It's really sickening and I truly believe she does not feel guilty or responsible.

I don't see what she hopes to gain out of writing this. So she wants history to remember her as a victim? She didn't want it published until after her death. Why does she care what people think about her then? And I don't care what she claims Emmett said or did. Nothing he ever could've done would be deserving of the kind of torture he was put through. Carolyn was so horrified by what her husband did that she stayed with him for 24 years afterwards.

You are in correct. In the memoir, she explains how he was forceful to her. The only thing she lied about was her husband's whereabouts that night, but she had no idea Till had been killed

She was 37 by the time she married her 4th husband, Gennie (Gene) Mobley in 1957. During the 1950s with lots of childhood diseases going around, having children in your late 30s was taking a risk.

Sort of makes you wish for the old days of justice where if there was irrefutable evidence, the sheriff would just order an execution. Why are we so against the death penalty for things like this? People have to learn that being the cause of taking a life, especially the life of a young man will result in the same happening to you. Watched the movie...in the movie, all he does is says she looks like a movie star, showing her the fake photo in his new wallet...at this point, his cousin grabs him and pulls him out of the store where he wolf whistles before leaving. She's not living in NC. she is living in KY. She moved to KY right about the time feds announced federal charges against cops that killed Breonna Taylor in Breonna's home while Breonna was in bed asleep, and right about the time the KY Attorney General announced he wants to run for KY general, the same black AG's that grand jury members claim misled them in proceedings regarding the Breonna Taylor incident, and BTW why doesn't media mention that Phil Bryant, who was the Governor of Mississippi from 2012 to 2020 was Carolyn and Roy Bryant's nephew. We could wish all we want that this woman would face justice, in naturalality we know that she never will. Back in those days young black people knew their place on what to do and not to do. Emmit Till was no exception. His daddy died the same way by a lie and he was hung. Black men in those days really couldn't do anything and really had no choice it was a horrible time for all black people. And this image of all 4 of them smiling and acting like they are not in court for a trial for murder is a big slap in the face to the family. They did this baby so wrong. Iam sorry that his family never saw it will see the justice they deserve. This is just all around heartbreaking.
