As always a fantastic video. One of those surprisingly not featured is W. Somerset Maugham, who was one of the most acclaimed authors of the twentieth century. The films Of Human Bondage and The Razor's Edge are based on his Novels. He passed away due to complications from a fall on December 16, 1965 Other Honorable Mentions : 1) Helen Chandler - Actress best known for her co-starring role opposite Bela Lugosi in the original film version of Dracula. Passed away due to complications from surgery on April 30, 1965. 2) Ray Collins - Best known for the role of Lt. Tragg on the Perry Mason T. V. Series. Also was a member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre, and had supporting roles in Citzen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons. Passed away from emphysema on July 11, 1965. 3) Everett Sloane - Was also a member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre. Had supporting roles in Citizen Kane and The Lady from Shanghai. Passed away on August 6, 1965, and is believed to have committed suicide. 4) Henry A Wallace - Served as Vice President under both FDR and Harry Truman. Passed away on November 6, 1965
You're right, DANIEL. Ms. Darnel was a fellow Texan, and precious to my memories to this day. My favorite role of hers--Chihuahua in John Ford's MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946).
Linda Darnell was stunning. She died when she was staying at a friend’s house in Chicago and the house caught fire. She was burned over 80% of her body. 😢
To be historically accurate, the COD for Dorothy Kilgallen should have been annotated in some fashion to acknowledge the simple fact that the circumstances of her OD were highly questionable and that the potential for there to have been foul play is quite high.
One actor that should have made this list is Steve Cochran who died on June 15, 1965, aged 48 during a sailing trip from Acapulco to Costa Rica. Otherwise, this was a great tribute to these unforgettable people we lost during 1965.
Margaret Dumont passed away just eight days after her last performance, a taped episode of The Hollywood Palace TV variety series. She appeared with Groucho Marx in a recreation of the "Hooray for Captain Spaulding" number from The Cocoanuts.
Dorothy Dandridge is my SWEETHEART, I will always ❤ her...Malcolm X and Nat King Cole are my boys, the photo of Lorraine Hansberry was excellent, didn't realize how pretty she was, ❤ that woman's WORK🎉🎉🎉
How lucky the world was to have both Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt as leaders of the free world during World War II. At certain points in history, just the right people seem to emerge. Would lesser men have defeated Hitler? Today, it’s hard to imagine people of Churchill’s grit, determination, and intelligence emerging to do anything.
Excellently put. I find a lot of people don't appreciate what Churchill did in my country, the UK, and criticise endlessly....Look what "leaders" we have now 🙄. Roosevelt was a remarkable man, especially as he had faced ill health. Bless them both!
I remember watching Chirchill's funeral in 1965 on american TV. It was on every channel. I was only 9, and watched my father, a WWII combat vet from the French/German theatre, shed a few tears.
Also, my favorite President after Abraham Lincoln is FDR - and incredible leader - having to negotiate how to help Britain (lend-lease and the like) when most of America did not want to be involved in the war. Both FDR and Churchill could really speak and move people. Ÿou have nothing to fear but fear itself." FDR " We will fight on the land we will fight on the beaches.... we will never surrender." Churchill. FDR died in April of 1945 before the WWII ended; and after the war, Churchill lost his position as Prime Minister - go figure.
REST IN HEAVENLY PARADISE MR. NAT KING COLE WHAT A AMAZING SINGER AND MAN . I LOVE CHESTNUTS ROASTING ON A OPEN FIRE . MALCOLM X A GREAT MAN .MS. LORRAINE HANSBERRY A GREAT WRITER AND MS. DOROTHY DANDRIDGE WHAT A BREATHTAKING WOMAN . SHE WAS LONG AHEAD OF HER TIME . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We always enjoy your videos and pray for the Holy Souls. However we wish to point out that Dorothy Kilgallen did not die from an overdose. That is the lie still told today. She was murdered!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed, and look for the lengthy video by a top researcher who believes the same. Forgot the actual title, but this guy is a pit bull for research, and thinks she knew too much about the JFK killing and who was connected. Look for it.
I am normally not a person who listens to Christmas music, but Nat King Cole's, Christmas Song is so beautiful u cannot help but listen. It's a lovely tribute to the holiday season. When I hear it tdy, it reminds me of Christmases, when I was a little girl & enjoying that holiday with my parents & extended family. My dad was born 8 days b4 Christmas & I was born 6days b4. I was 5yrs old, when Malcolm X, was assassinated. I barely remember the actual murder. Most of the information I gleaned, was when I was old enuf, thru documentaries. RIP to all who passed that year. 🤍⭐️🕊🤎💐🙌🏽 Thank u for sharing.👍🏽🙌🏽
The Christmas Song never gets old. It was written by Robert Wells and Mel Torme. Torme (The Velvet Fog) had a voice as iconic as Nat King Cole’s, and both their versions of the song are classics.
Dorothy Kilgallen did not kill herself - she was murdered and what she was working on which would have shaken the people in high places - had her killed.
You left out John Larkin who died Jan 29th 1965 at age 52 from a heart attack. He played Perry Mason when it was on radio before it went on tv. He later played attorney Mike Karr on The Edge of Night when it premiered on CBS April 2nd 1956.
You forgot Ray Collins. He played Lieutenant Tragg on Perry Mason from 1957-64 before he was replaced by Wesley Lau as Lt. Anderson. Then Richard Anderson as Lt. Steve Drumm. Ray Collins passed away July 11, 1965.
Also, Jimmie Lee Jackson who was killed by Alabama State Patrol in a restaurant in Selma, Alabama. Also killed in Selma was James Reeb and Viola Liuzzo.
The young lady, Ms. Hansberry, who authored A Raisin in the Sun was a great loss at only 34. Who knows what other works were lost with her. Too many of these people died too young!
Another death for this year was Clyde Beatty, circus owner and wild animal trainer (June 10, 1902, in Bainbridge, Ohio - July 19, 1965, in Ventura CA). He trained 2 separate acts of 40 mixed lions and tigers, which no other trainer has matched. He starred as himself in 7 films, wrote 3 best-selling books, owned the Clyde Beatty Railroad Circus, and continued an unequalled circus career for 44 seasons. He died of cancer, aged 63.
I think it was in the Abbot and Costello movie Africa Screams, where Costello is having a conversation with Clyde Beatty, not knowing who he is. He then fabricates this story of how he went hunting with Clyde Beatty and bagged more animals than he did. When he discovers that it’s actually Clyde Beatty he’s talking to, he looks like a complete fool.
They left out quite a few notables: Bernard Baruch, H.V. Kaltenborn, Myra Hess, Queen Elizabeth of Belgium, Arthur Meier Schlesinger and Amos Alonzo Stagg. Why is it the rock stars who O.D. on drugs are always mentioned? And truly great people seem to fall through the cracks?
I consider him the best statesman of the 20th century. Very disappointed in the British people with them throwing him out of office a few months after the war.
Starting the year out strong with the Father of ALL Jellicle CATS, Without Thomas Stearns Eliot Writing Old Possum's Book of Practical CATS, His Widow Valerie Eliot wouldn't have Given Andrew Lloyd Webber The Unpublished Poems and The Rights to turn The Book into The Wonderful Musical Most of us Know and Love Known as CATS, And I would have a Different Channel Icon and Handle. And Walt Disney, The Man that Tom Turned Down Died The Following Year. Ryan's are everywhere even on the Titanic. Frederick Fleet was portrayed by Scott G. Anderson in Titanic (1997) Starring Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, and David Warner. Winston Churchill, Queen Elizabeth II first Prime Minister. Murrow was right, there are now over 1K Channels including ours.
Looks like the date of Henry Travers passing stated in the video may be incorrect. According to both IMDB and Wikipedia, He passed away on October 18, 1965.
And his 32 year run as Packers head coach is the LONGEST run WITH ONE TEAM as head coach! (Then he coached Arizona (then Chicago later St. Louis followed by Phoenix) and washington.)
Few today may recall that in his youth, Adlai accidentally shot and killed a girl at a party. He admitted what he'd done, and was not jailed, but carried the guilt for his lifetime.
Frederick was destitute he had fallen on hard times and he and his wife lived in her brother’s home. When she passed away his brother in law evicted him. He committed suicide because he had nowhere to go. 😢 Nothing to do with Titanic.
@@inmemoriam2000yes and I grew up hearing nothing but nice things like my great grandpa actually remembered growing up with her and he was a little older but he regarded her like a kid sister.. and I'm just glad people still like her work and remember her ..she was just as pretty on the inside as on the outside. Just sad how she went though .tbh
