This is pure insanity. Having people dance and sing to distract from the memorial is beyond comprehension. Also having celebrities come out and bump certain people up is so disrespectful. I guess it's Hollywood so I shouldn't be surprise, but I thought they could at least pretend to have a little more class than that.
@@RafaelGomar There's something to be said about celebrating one's passing with joy and happiness, I agree. That's what wakes are for---particularly for drinks and strolling down memory lane. There's also something to be said for "quiet, dignified" moments. I guess there's a fine line between "solemn" and "celebratory".
I thought the In Memoriam part couldn't get any worse after the last one where all the photos were shown at the speed of light after an unnecessary 10 minute speech at the beginning. This year I was proved wrong. The Oscars used to show respect and dignity in equal measures to those in showbiz that had passed away. Let's hope they go back to that sort of presentation one day
So, I'm not the only one that felt awkward watching this "In Memoriam" segment, eh? I one thought was, "Wow---let's really pull focus away from the people who have passed away."
It was just so unnecessary. Like can't you just show the people who have passed away? It's not that hard to do. That felt more like I was in a church than watching a segment about honoring people who have died
I have to agree. And I dont much care to watch all these people boogying to upbeat music. Just show the people we are sad for...with glimpses of a musician/band. Coming across people I may not have known had gone, is 😢choking up inducing, not "party on dude🤟"
This felt like a cheery church service. All the dancers were distracting, the mood was all wrong and it was hard to even take in the names. Where is Eddie Vedder when you need him?
Alex, you're wrong. Now Eddie Vedder is an musician who has several projects of his own. So if I were you, I'll never considered Eddie nor anybody else. Ever.
This was bloody awful? The camera was so far away you couldn't see peoples names, plus they had people standing in front of their photographs. Why bother?
Truly one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen at the Oscars and that’s including what had just happened moments before this. In Memoriam! The Musical.
I do agree.. It was so tacky and inappropriate. I feel like it should always be somber and calm tribute but this was like some musical number or I felt like I was at a revival. What a pathetic tribute.
If the academy can’t do this properly anymore, stop doing it , as it’s becoming pointless when you don’t give much time to who you are supposed to be honouring
Wow - could that ever be more inappropriate? Turning a memorial moment into a mix of Riverdance and Up With People. Then, they cut the presentation down in at least half, added unneeded showcase monologues for a few and buried the rest in a montage in the final few seconds. The very definition of paying final lip service to those that made the Academy. This is not the way it should be done.
Hated Oscar 2022 In Memoriam. Worst Oscars In Memoriam ever. I wanted to remember and see all the people who passed and who contributed to the Performing Arts business. Having to see the singers dancing made it all about the singers. I did not like it at all. o.0
They'll probably continue doing it like this unfortunately, no way will these self-righteous creeps listen to the people and correct these wrong moves they'll just have some dopey singer alone on stage next year; 'look how wer're respectful again'... News flash, bozos; we don't want any singing at all during this bit this is not the bloody Grammys, just have some music and the portraits...like it's always been and used to be. Death is death, so treat it like that.
On top of the fact that this was a bit of cheery moment instead of melancholic, I hate the fact that they gave specific artists the floor as if they were worth more attention than the rest of the people who passed away, the beauty ( so top speak ) of the ''In memoriam'' segment was that everyone was on the same scale coz everyone contributed to the filmmaking industry wether they were famous or not. Giving more minutes to Betty white ( although I adore her ) Sidney Poitier and other is kinda like because these were more famous they probably deserve more acknowledgment.
3:30 😭🇬🇷 Mikis was one of the best composers ever. Tortured and exiled from the tyrants that ruled back then but he still continued and his songs are still sang even now!!!
Since when do we mourn the loss of the greats with a discordant, stage-hogging chirpy choir that completely hogs the screen and the camera. When did the Academy become afraid of a little sombre moment of remeniscence - respectful and appropriate. This is why I haven't watched this shit show in over a decade, and I love the movies.
I get the celebration of life, thing. But it was too distracting. I couldn't read the contributions of people because they were doing a full stage pan, too far away.
That was the worst In Memorium that I have ever seen. The speakers telling about some of the featured was a nice touch. But the choir took everything away from the screen. You are supposed to be showing who had passed away , NOT choir members singing and dancing. Very Disrespectful!!!!!
In memorian should be a reminder of people who did a great job in Hollywood. This time they concentrate almost exclusively on the singers who are in the foreground and have absolutely no place there. Absolutely bad
Mr. Jean-Paul Belmondo was one of the best actors in films, in theatres... Although he was a French-speaker filmmaker, actor... but what a shame he has not received an Oscar, or later... An honorary Oscar, or a lifetime achievement award (AFI) from the American filmmakers.... Died at aged 88.... without any American Oscar and/or any honorary award.... No comment.
Yeah, he was one of my favorite actors, especially after watching Leon Morin, The Priest and it was so sad that it was left in the dust, he was an amazing actor that deserved more.
Tenía el amor de toda Francia, que importa un premio como el Oscar que además está sobrevalorado. Siempre ha Sido una premiación injusta y ayer lo vimos.
Thanks , koszonom. Jean-Paul Belmondo was one of my favorite actors ever as Alain Delon. In fact, Belmondo was more popular in many countries than many américan actors.. Actually, I think that he was appreciated in the sixties in the US thanks to "Breathless" or "the Man From Rio", but he turned down for the most part the american proposals so as to play in american movies.. The producer Sam Spiegel wanted to make him a star in America but Belmondo didnt accept the contract.. Sam Spiegel didnt understand why the actor turned it down.. So, in a way, to give m'y opinion, I think that the american artists and producers were disappointed by his refusal.. It Is Perhaps the reason why the tribute Is light.. Belmondo and Delon were so popular in Europe and elsewhere that they were not forced to play in the US movies and they hadn't much time to play America doing in the sixties sometimes three or four films a year !. Finally, Alain Delon played in more américan films than his friend Belmondo but he concentrated especially on his européan career.. But, Jean Paul Belmondo was rewarded an Oscar for his Career in Los Angeles in 2012 if I'm not mistaken.. You can take a look to verify..
@@unrealistic5462 You are right. Especially in view of the fact that Jean Paul Belmondo Is one of the French real legends of the cinéma as Alain Delon, his lifelong friend, Jean Gabin or even Lino Ventura, G.Depardieu or Michel Simon the French swiss actor.. Or also Brigitte Bardot and some others. He was appreciated in many countries..
Nothing is needed while this tribute is going on except some moving classical music and the ability to concentrate on the lives of those who've gone. This was a disrespectful debacle of truly massive proportions!
These memoriam segments just get worse and worse. The last great one was when Queen Latifah sang "I'll be seeing you", that was around 2009 I think, it was beautiful.
@@renaissancemarieaustin No it's not normal. It was better when it was just a nice piece of instrumental music like in the past a great violist or pianist and the pictures of those who had past. For it is those we are here to see that this point in the program not to see and hear any one singing and dancing. That is why they call it "In Memoriam" not a showcase
@@ahbeedabeeda8885 Exactly. We remember the people who passed. It is better when music is in the background. It was more about the choir singing and dancing this time.
Oscars...while I get the idea of having a "celebration of life choir" please understand that it is NOT the feature of this portion. We want to see the FACES and the CONTRIBUTIONS of those who passed. I want to know that someone was a costume designer or a cinematographer...not a full stage pan of a dancing choir in front of their picture. You could have included so many others. Even if we lost some notable TV personalities (and maybe that's the focus here), but Ed Asner was in movies.
Wow why stop and take longer on Betty White's clips....everyone that died is also worth that. For example, Carmen Salinas also deserved a few clips of her cuz she's Mexico's version of Betty White. Everyone deserves a moment!
What is disrespectful about celebrating a person's life? Just because it isn't within your culture to celebrate the life of someone when they pass, doesn't make it disrespectful. Everyone grieves and honours in different ways, and this was a beautiful homage to those who died.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 Although the US is a Western country, it is made up of diverse cultures, all of which are integral parts of their society. Having one year where this is considered in the In Memoriam is not inappropriate. It also doesn't mean they will solely stick to this from of honoring the deceased. There's a lot wrong with the Oscars, but this wasn't one of them. I can understand people not liking evey aspect of it (some have criticised the sound mixing and camera work, which fair enough), but to call it inappropriate is dismissive of other cultures.
Cheesus, the disrespect! I don't know what is worse, taking a selfie in a funeral or having a whole song and dance be center stage LITERALLY while pretending to commemorate the memory of those who left us.
Hasta Siempre Ned Olimpya Felipe Betty Carmen y Lina Ned Beatty (6/07/1937-13/06/2021) Olimpya Dukakis (20/06/1931-1/05/2021) Felipe Cazals (28/07/1937-16/10/2021) Betty White (17/01/1922-31/12/2021) Carmen Salinas (5/10/1939-9/12/2021) Lina Wertmuller (14/08/1928-9/12/2021) Descansen en paz Estas Grandes Estrellas De Hollywood California Siempre Seran Inolvidables Hoy el cielo está de fiesta ♥️🕯🌹💐😪🎗😪💐🌹🕯♥️
They didn't forget Jean Paul Belmondo thanks to God ! But, the tribute was too short!! One the most popular french actors ever, an international legend like his lifelong friend Alain Delon (or even Jean Gabin and Lino Ventura....) Belmondo was appreciated by QuentinTarantino, Steven Spielberg, Mickey Rourcke, Sly Stallone, De Niro or even Spike Lee and Edward Norton, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jackie Chan.. He also inspired many other artists all over the World.. And, unfortunately, No trace of Gaspard Ulliel and Monica Vitti..
What's with the stupid choreo? Are they very, very happy that these people died? Why was Jamie Lee Curtis carrying a puppy? Who thought this would be a good tribute? Are they try to ruin the In Memoriam section so they can cancel it without anyone complainig?
Yes, in general, "In Memoriam 2022" turned out to be quite good (the beginning even when they showed William Hurt and Clarence Williams moved me to tears) compared to last year, I personally have anger and hatred for the producers that they did not mention other worthy artists who Bob Saget, Norm MacDonald, Monica Vitti, Norman Lloyd, Samuel Wright, and also Edward Asner were also in demand and popular all over the world where they are just a shame that they did not mention any of these artists !!! 😖😔😭🙏🙏🙏
The academy awards is no longer in touch with what the night represents to film lovers and entertainers. This year we lost a legend in film achievement Sidney Poitier best actor of all time and beloved activist, Melvin Van Peebles first independent filmmaker and first black director, Sonny Chiba international representative of Asian accomplishments, John Paul Belmondo world renowned actor, the whole night should been attributed to legendary entertainers we lost. Instead we are subjected to vulgar language, poor jokes, cheesy entertainment and gowns walking the red carpet that are no longer fashionable. The academy is one that needs reviewing.
