It shows how good this movie is that even though this scene is a parody of one from another movie, it still manages to work on a personal and motivational level.
@@BenReillySpydr1962 It's called Knute Rockne All American. He was a famous coach at Notre Dame University. In the movie, and in real life, a fantastic player named George Gipp died partway through his season and told Rockne to go "win one for the Gipper", if you've heard that expression, that's where it comes from. Anyway, the speech the doctor gives here is the same as the one Rockne gives in the movie, just with "Doc" instead of "Rock" and "Zipper" instead of "Gipper."
I'm still so honored to meet the entire cast from Airplane. They came to meet us wounded Marines, but once I returned to good health, I had the thrill of a lifetime as I played golf with Mr. Ted Stryker. How's that for a thrill of your life???
“Excuse me doc I’ve got a plane to land!” What a hero stud. I love this movie. There are 2 types of people in this world, those who love this movie and those who don’t. Those who don’t like it are usually lame as hell.
Hello everyone, George Zip is the name of the pilot striker continually cites throughout the movie "Airplane" as a source of his shame for failure in the war. That is why the speech at the end rallies him so much. Just in case some people were confused.... Peace
Cheer Cheer for old Notre dame wake up the echoes cheering her name send a volley cheer from the sky what though the odds be great or small old Notre Dame will win overall while her loyal sons are marching onward to victory. Go Irish Go.
@Daniel Alexander then the crowd cheering after the speech, you know Doc was full of bull with thst Zip story, everyone on the plane knew about Zip and Ted's drinking problem🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@keithjefferson2196 'But that's not important now.' With that speech, the Doc gave Ted the courage to try again one more time, to save their lives, knowing Ted was the only chance they had. Despite the movie being a comedy, and the Knute Rockney parody, the writers slipped a little bit of truth by the viewers. Sometimes all somebody needs is a light to look up towards, a straw to grasp at, just a faint glimmer of hope, of self-respect, of being what they once were, to go out there just one more time and BE that person in the moment.
Beer Beer for Old Notre Dame Bring out the Whiskey Bring the Champagne We drink beer and wine and gin Don't let a sober person in We never stumble, We never fall We sober up on wood alcohol While our loyal sons go marching Back to the bar for more!!
As an alternative Beer, beer for old UVA Shake up the cocktails You know the way. Send somebody out for gin Never let a sober sophomore in. We never stagger, we never fall We sober up on wood alcohol. While our drunken sons go marching Up to the bar for more!
"Gods were against us up there but we went in anyway. I'm glad, captain made the right decision." "Doc, sometime the crew is up against it, the brakes are beating the boys, tell them to get out there and give it all they got, and win just one for the zipper." "I don't know where I'll be then, doc. But it won't smell to good, thats for sure."
I always wondered why the Notre Dame fight song was in this. Now I know. George Zip was a parody of Notre Dame football player George Gipp. Win one for the Gipper!!!!
Every since i first watched airplane on beetamax as an child year old on beetamax in the late 80s i have loved this bit of the film. Notre dam march often gets a play when i am facing a challenge and need to find inspiration.I know its a parody but the line excuse me doc ive got a plane to land is superb.
“Captain made the right decision. That pilots name was George zip” “George zip said that?” “He said sometime the crew is up against it the breaks are against the boys tell ‘em to give all they got and tell ‘em to win just won more for the zipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then doc but it won’t smell too good that’s for sure” “excuse me doc I got a plane to land” BRILLIANT
pikespice: The fact that the American Film Institute does not have this flick in their Top 100 I can only ascribe to blatant favoritism on the part of the judges!
So funny on so many levels. Satire of the original scene in a film Reagan starred in in the same year he was voted in as President. Nielsen’s delivery is so perfect, I can’t imagine anyone else pulling this off.
@JordansFilms1 Yes I have to admit that. It is one of the best scenes in the movies. This scene can really make a person feel better. When they are feeling down and all the odds are against them. With it being funny at the same time.
yeah nothing like someone who can play both sides of acting and pull it off just as well as any other . and yes that line he says at the end of the bit is classic even when the water reaches up to him lol
So does this Notre Dame place have sports teams or something? Do they play like football or something? Or do they just have a really big band that marches around campus a lot?
brilliant writing. why don't they make comedies like this anymore? the comedy movies today are shitfests. look at Grown Ups. that movie sucks donkey balls
