He is right. There is nothing wrong with Richmond. Xfinity still puts on a great show there. This new Cup car isnt built for anything but 1.5 mile tracks while Xfinity has a better car overall.
Well that might be it for me, a lifelong fan of NASCAR. They can move the Chicago slot to different cities/countries all they want. Drop Richmond, they’ll be losing this guy…
Unfortunately, the powers that be in NASCAR, don't value traditions or what they mean. LaborDay at Darlington, 4th of July at Daytona, etc. It's one thing if a facility falls in disrepair and the owners can't or won't upgrade or repair, but to just arbitrarily drop a date to go somewhere new is a slap to the face of the fans who keep NASCAR alive. There's so many examples of this, it's disheartening. Put 4 dates in the schedule to try new venues, LA Coliseum, Chicago, Mexico, Japan, etc. Let them earn a full time date. NASCAR IS OVAL RACING. I don't mind a road course but one or two maybe 3 a year is enough. They tried dirt too. That was fun for a while, but it's not NASCAR. I go to dirt tracks to see dirt racers, modified, midgets, sprints, etc. I'm sorry for rambling, but I'm with ya on this, Dale. Huge fan of yours since the begining. Proud of the man you've become. I'm rootin fer ya!
F1 came to Las Vegas and the F1 drivers called it a joke, the working class business owners had their property blocked and they LOST money.....the ultra rich had a good time.......everyone else thought it destroyed the price of rooms, food and the ability to travel in town
I’ve been a fan of NASCAR since the early sixties when all we had was the radio to listen to. Or go to the race and I couldn’t afford it. But I’ve noticed lately that even Bristol has so many empty seats. I remember when you couldn’t buy a seat at Bristol. I give them maybe 10 years and NASCAR will be history 😊
I love road courses, that's why I watch F1 I watched Nascar for good old fashioned oval racing. I'm disgusted with how they're ruining the very thing that makes them money.
In 1988 I worked for Waddell on the 5 car Cup and Busch with Robert Gee. That was the first year that they redid Richmond for a half mile to 3/4 mile. I thought it was great!
Why Mexico? Didn't Nascar learn it's lesson by taking away race dates from Darlington, North Wilksboro, & Rockingham? Leave California, Texas, & Chicago. If those big cities can't fill the seats then they don't deserve a race
In full disclosure, I’m more of an open wheel fan than a Nascar fan, although I do enjoy the plate races and road courses . I used to work for years in the CART & ChampCar series (todays IndyCar) multiple times I drove our teams transporter (NASCAR calls them haulers) to Mexico City and this was in the 90s. I can’t begin to tell you how nerve-racking and dangerous that was when you’re transporting something at the time has about a $2 million value. Later on, we ended up getting Mexican police convoys, much like Nascar did when they took the bush series to Mexico City. There is a certain thing to be said for what is called brand equity and date equity. Open wheel has gone through it and like many other things that is severely crippled our sport, it will be a damn shame if they take away such a great track for a foreign country to have a temporary race. Nascar should be ashamed if this happens, think about the local economics of a racetrack and everyone that depends on these race weekends and when that goes away, it’s devastating for the community. I hope this doesn’t happen for the sake of Nascar fans, it sure seems like they have shot themselves in the foot many times, you can’t be everything to everyone, IndyCar and NASCAR and NHRA is an American sport, it’s hard to make money when you take these trucks and teams over the borders to Canada and Mexico, these series are not international based Series and they can’t compete with the travel logistics of a Formula One type sanctioned body from a logistics expense side. The reason that open wheel went to Mexico, Australia, Canada was because of Tobacco sponsorship money and that is long gone in all series
I wonder, if anyone has ever thought about this. First, I see no reason what so ever that a Race should be held outside of this country. My thoughts are. 1. have a race every week of the year, with the exception of Christmas week, and the week of Easter. Now, no one will be allowed to race all 50 races, but you have to run lets say run 2 road courses, 2 dirt track courses, 2 super speedways, and 2 small tracts. Before the new season starts, each team has to sign up for the tracks they wanna run, but, they will still have to qualify. If they fail to qualify, they will loose those tracks to where they could have earned so many points. Forget this stages, forget the end of the year "tournament" Let the points accumulate like they used to do it. At the end of the year, The Week before Christmas week, the final race will determine the Champion. In order for all teams to have time off, put a cap on how many races they run at let's say, 40 races. Put a cap on how many cars one team can run at three. All race tracks will offer the same amount of points as the others. Any track can only be run once a year, unless there are not enough tracks that can handle the amount of viewers. If there are not enough tracks, Any track that would want to run an extra race, let there be a drawing as to who , if any (because of lack of tracks), will get to run a second race. Also, no rain delays, let them run with treaded tires. (this will show who can drive, and who can just go fast. Maybe, ad one endurance race. Where the drivers can only run 1/4 of the laps. Let it be up to the teams who will run the rest of the laps, but only full time employees of the owner, as in a driver from another car, heck, the truck drivers if they can handle a car. Now this, would make things exciting again, something that has been lacking in recent years.
I'm a 30 plus year RIR ticket holder but no longer this effort has been planned and deliberate over many years to rob Peter and pay Paul. How unfortunate for a track with so much history to be squeezed out like this.
What does this say about NASCAR THEY LET AN OUTSIDE DESIGNER, DESIGN A CAR THAT DOESN'T WORK WELL ON THE HISTORIC TRACKS of NASCAR . With all theSmart Guys and modeling qhy can't they make it work? Model tires from different phasesof the race run the simulation and does the sim results follow the actual results. Verify your model? Do we need a different engineering team Is this beyond the scope of the engineers inside of NASCAR??
NASCAR lost its way the day Dale Sr. Passed. Jr was my driver after the passing of Sr. But NASCAR was never the same and has lost its way with all this modern garbage. Leaving the old tracks and their history and going to the monster cookie cutter tracks with no history and no direction. End the Chase BS! Return to the roots and watch the sport we all used to love return!
Leave the schedule alone and fix the damn car! Instead of addressing the actual problem they’re basically changing what the sport was meant to be. Get your ish together NASCAR!!
Jonathon Taylor here. I agree with Dale Jr nothin wrong with Richmond speedway it one of my favorite NASCAR tracks. I'm not thrilled about hearin NASCAR might put on a race in Mexico its going turn me off from Nascar.
What do you like about Richmond. Realize the North Carolina bootlegger history. I like road courses for the cars we had (protos) long ago. Le Mans 24 hour proved the Camaro cup cars should have proven something.
A exhibition race in Mexico is OK, not a points race. Road races have never been the core of NASCAR, and the street race in Chicago was a total joke. Same as all street courses in Indy and F1. Fans Can't see anything and little actual racing. Mostly just following each other around. The race ability of a track is most important to me, and the ability to actually watch it happen. Oval track is much more fan friendly as the racing is visible from the stands, F1 type people seem to only care about the event, not racing.
Nascar does not care about the fans. The fans Wan the old way of racing, let drivers be who they are. Oval tracks is what nascar was made on. Nascar should listen to the fans. They do buy the tickets, and support their favorite driver. I do not think the people that make the decisions really understand the fans or the history of nascar.
Nascar's knee jerk reaction to these racing anomolies has turned me into a casual fan at best. There's something to be said about tradition in motorsports. To lose staple tracks on the race schedule is gonna hurt viewership in the long run. Two road courses a season is more than enough. Stock car racing should happen on an oval track. Road racing is fine for other forms of motorsports, but stop messing with the schedule. Make the new car work on ovals and keep stock car racing what it is at its core.
Nascar just removed a RC for this year, and everyone already wanting to whine about there being too many RCs. I won't ever forgive Nascar for removing Road America, but you should be more positive that the series can go to different RCs
NASCAR is turning their back on what built the sport. All these historic tracks that have been there and supported the sport through good years and bad years are being put to the side for the sake of money. Well we can look at the grandstands every week and see how that has worked out. History means something to true fans. You may gain a few fans when you move a race but you piss off your true fans who have been there forever and now it is showing up. I’m guessing that NASCAR fans are at an all time low all because of greed. It sucks as a guy who has been a fan for 45 years to see this happening. I very seldom even watch a race now and when I do watch one it’s one of the historic tracks that built this sport. Between changing the cars up to where all they are the same no brand recognition no room for not cheating but gaining a advantage by working hard and finding speed plus now taking the history away what’s left for the true fans. NOTHING. It was going to be hard enough on the sport loosing all the drivers we had loved to watch for decades leave the sport and to try to accept the new drivers that all of this together has ruined the sport I once loved and never missed a race no matter what. Now I could really care less about watching a race. It just sucks to see a once thriving sport go to crap because of only a few owners taking over the sport and leaving the good ol boy no underdog to root for.
My god losing Richmond is like losing Darlington...why do we need to go to mexico...nascar is gonna piss some people off..if they keep it up all there old fans are gonna migrate to tennis...
Old Paul Sawyer would be very sad if that happens and so would I I’m hometown boy that grew up on racing at RIR not a bad seat in the house don’t let it happen JR please
Yeah when they first started cutting out the Short tracks I started losing interest. Now I cant tell you the last race I watched, its been that long ago.
That doesn't surprise me. They'll probably try to eliminate all the oval tracks one day. I haven't watched nascar since 2016 when Stewart retired but i hear it's changed a lot, rules have changed, the speed of the cars have changed, all for the worst too. Looking at a modern nascar racecar is enough to make me not what to watch anymore, them things are ugly and don't look anything like a traditional racecar you'd see in nascar they look more like something you'd see in GT circuit race and that's what i believe nascar might try to be like one day.
The hell with Mexico hell a hour from Dega you can see little Mexico. Stick to our own damn country. NASCAR is going to screw something up as much as possible
I agree that losing the traditional tracks is not, in my minds eye, good for the sport! NASCAR is like a country and expanding! I’m completely satisfied with stepping back and go back to its roots! I loved the races, hospitality and the crowds from back in the day! Corporate NASCAR does not fit the red neck nation!
Sad..back in the day richmond was like bristol, under the lights and a sellout every cup race...now they are down 12000 seats taking out the backstretch and you cant even fill the stands halfway for a cup race.....nascar management has destroyed the sport, their woke ass B.S. and promoting certian people hasnt helped either....sad...was a fun sport to watch in 80s and 90s...
Very Sad you have to go to Mexico BECAUSE You can't make US want to go TO THE RACES need to get back to the Roots of NASCAR WTF. FRUSTRATED FAN your thoughts?.....................
That's why nascar sucks , they have pissed all over the real fan base who made them , nobody i know watched anymore, unless it's a old race, wgen it was good.
Thats why Nascar is going downhill.. No more Dale Sr's out there to shut It down before it starts!! No more Big name's left driving "that brings Big Buck's into the sport!! Wish you were Still racing Dale Jr.
