Andrew Hager had the deck stacked against him even before he was born. His mother was only 15 years old, and his father died before he was born. His life, his parents’ lives, and even his childrens’ lives are impacted by addiction. After spending time in prison and seeing two of his four children serve time, as well, Andrew successfully completed a 12-step program, found faith in God, and committed his life to helping others on their own journey through recovery.

My mom gave birth to my older brother at 16, and me just after she turned 18. Dad died of OD in 2002, then mom about 15 years later. My brother and I were out there for a time, struggling with substance abuse. After a couple of decades with scattered pockets of active addiction, we overcame our respective struggles. He owns a wonderful seafood restaurant now, everything down to the tablecloth picked out by him. I relocated to another part of the country, upped my salary and began building something new there. Thanks for this interview. Ended up relating to this gentleman far more than I expected.

This was an amazing interview. I have never seen life from this prospective. Andrew's life was a mess as he was born. He struggled by his own choices but has made it!! He's a true man!! No one is above or below another human being. I don't care who thi ks they are, that stool they are standing on is going to get kicked out from under your feet. I truly enjoyed this conversation. Thank you Ian for your platform to share with us. I am so glad your father is there with you all the way!!

Ian, I found your channel through my son who shared an episode with me. Now, I really enjoy listening to your show regularly because you’ve taken this platform to primarily help others, not focusing on yourself nor your past stories; like so many of the other after prison shows do. I’d love to hear you interview your parents who I know are super proud of you for how you have changed you ways around since you took a hold of your life. The appreciation of life you have now, is astounding and guests you bring one which have been amazing, reflect that appreciation. But there is an even larger part to all that you are doing and that’s the vast amount of people you are reaching and affecting in such a positive way. Keep up the good work sir, God definitely has had this planned for you!

I’m not shy about saying I’ve been to thousands of NA meetings & been clean a long time. Much of what he’s saying comes from the NA literature, all the little inspirational words & phrases.. I have been blessed to know many people like him. The BEST people i know are recovering addicts. Former thieves, former fiends, former felons, “former” this or that - but now I’d trust them with my life. We do recover!! 🔹✊🏼

My first girlfriend was getting pimped by her own mother at 13 to the city dealers, the mom was the daughter of a foster home I was in, very simular life to what he's talking about, when the mom lost her son to fentanyl a few years ago, she lost it, she used to get him weed at 10 years old. "When chaos isn't chaos" I relate to that, but I broke the cycle, my son just turned 17 in college for engineering, living in dorms. I may not be sh!t, ruined my chances when I was younger, but I made sure my son never saw the chaos, I never hid my past, I made sure he knew he was special, loved, and can be anything he wants to be if he's honest, hard working.l and don't give up

I'm sorry but I got no sympathy for that cop that *POKED HIMSELF* with a bloody rig. Addicts are not a reliable source when it comes to knowing what they have on them, especially when they've been up for days, are on drugs that effect their memory, etc. I'm not a cop but if I was, I'd be using those poke proof gloves any time I searched anybody, especially a KNOWN drug user that was likely clearly intoxicated. He said his clothes even had blood and cigarette burns on them, it doesn't take a genius to be able to put the pieces together and realize that you're dealing with an opioid user if that's your profession. What do opioid users tend to carry with them to consume opioids? Syringes! You can buy a pair of stick proof gloves for like 10 bucks so even if the department didn't provide them, it's not like they cost an arm and a leg. If he didn't take that precaution then that's on him if he gets an uncapped rig stuck in his hand...

@Blunt_Man
@Blunt_Man 10 месяцев назад
@@joshuagorman2191 You're not caught until you're in the county jail calling around to find a ride or just to notify people where you're at, til then don't give up anything! If I was him, I'm not doing their job for them and just handing over everything illegal because they've pulled me out my car to search everything, they're going to have to go over every square inch of me and my property then find it themselves. Cops miss things during searches all the time, if they just expect everybody to rat themselves out because they're searching them, they're fools! Have fun believing that they're all going to just make the job easy and hopefully the next person doesn't have HIV. Hopefully there just isn't a next time and that clown remembers that stick proof gloves are a thing so he actually uses them instead of just trusting his health and safety to some sleep deprived dope fiend that can hardly remember what year it is smh. I actually don't remember, did he say if he even KNEW he had a syringe on him or not? I know he said he'd been awake for 7 days, at that point I wouldn't be too surprised if he didn't know he even had it. That's a large reason I don't care about the cop, he's dealing with lying, stealing druggies, currently under the influence, it's not like he was dealing with some upstanding member of society that would never lie to the police. I'll feel sorry for him when I start feeling sorry for people who have a kid they didn't want because they didn't use protection lol

it's guilty for being a junky - NO, correction. Guilty for what you did whilst being an insecure-approval-seeking individual / abused, misled, corrupted, traumatised minor / structureless, traumatised adult ...ie. the choices that flow from that depravity. And then he quotes scripture - true redemption is only achieved through Jesus (read up on it, He made the way)..so "who's/what's feeding my spirit?", Andrew brought it home. Let it be Jesus.
