Great video. I love how you opened with a slow sweeping shot of the beautiful English scenery, and finished with a similar shot too, which completed a really enjoyable look at British nature, with those amazing trees and that perfect little butterfly. Thank you.

A lovely species the Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary, it is hard to understand how they survive with their very lethargic habit, but it is nice to see them close up like this, the Beech tree is fantastic, that must have blown down over 70 years ago looking at the new growth, stay safe! Chris B.

Hi Chris :) I was thinking around closer to100 years growth - given the altitude - since it got blown over (this is from my days as a tree surgeon previously). I was so pleased to find the butterflies, it was a whistle-stop quite literally so wasn't too sure I'd be lucky enough, but they showed wonderfully - it's a fantastic place :) Best wishes - Joel

Excellent, very cool looking butterfly. Pity people more don’t spend a bit more time to look and see what’s around them.

Absolutely Mark - the trees would be hard to miss, but I guess you have to be of that mind-set and the butterflies... they were so rewarding to see and I was really grateful, particularly because I only had an hour or so there. Hope you're doing ok - best wishes, Joel

A real beauty, the color and pattern. Great slow-motion shots. Butterflies are so rewarding to observe. I added more host and native plants last year and got great results, summer can't get here soon enough to enjoy the show! Thanks for featuring these butterflies on you channel.

Yes, absolutely wonderful - as always I wish I could have spent more time there but it was a stop over to break up the 10.5 hour journey up to the clients in Scotland, very grateful to see the SPBFs though and those trees... they really were incredible close-up, what stamina to keep growing after being taken down by the winds. Good morning! :) It was wonderful to see them and those trees were more than a bonus, wish I'd got there slightly earlier but still rewarding. Nottingham... if you're close enough, then do check out Ashtons (!) Meadow, it's a site of special scientific interest - postcode DN22 0BP - a beautiful site that has been meadow area for many many years with no use of pesticides etc so pretty natural and caretaken by the Wildlife Trusts :) Let me know how you get on - best wishes, Joel

Really enjoyed this; one of my favourite places and a gorgeous little butterfly. As you may know Arnside Knott is home to other even rarer butterflies: the high brown fritillary and the pearl-bordered fritillary. Amazing place.

Hi Mark - I'm really glad, I do appreciate your support :) Yes, the High Brown's are known on this site but only one or two had been sighted before I went and I may have been a little too late and of course the PBF was a little before I managed to get there. I'm very grateful to have seen the SPBFs and of course those fantastic trees. Not sure if you live nearby but if I find myself in the area again I'll give you a shout :) Best wishes, and thanks again - Joel

IT'S AUGUST 11TH 2024, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED, IN THESE WORRYING TIMES. i;VE ALWAYS LOVED BUTTERLIES AND \MOTHS. COLLECTED THEM S A BOY, IN THE LATE 1940'S TO MID 50'S, WHEN THEY WERE FAR MORE PLENTYFUL. I ALWAYS FOUND THE FRITILERIES HARD TO RECOGNISE, ONE SPECHY ? FROM ANOTHER, ESPECIALLY TOPSIDE UP.
