My father took me fishing to San Luis Reservoir several times, and when I drove by during the drought, all I thought was "What a shame that it isn't full of water." Now I see it as opportunity to explore. Thanks for the many entertaining and educational videos.

Thanks so much for doing these, I have just watched two of your videos. I live in the Monterey bay region but haven't been able to get out and enjoy the area for several years as I care for my 95 year old mother 24/7. I used to do restoration work in the Santa Barbara Los Padres area where we saw Chumash relics and artifacts on occasion, always a thrill.

Thanks for watching. Often times when receding waters occur in reservoirs a large silt deposit remains and covers over the surface. Surprisingly, in this case everything remained intact..............................alex

Wow Alex! I have been making my way through your Lost Civilization Series,enjoying every episode. I want to thank you for giving me “ next level”fresh eyes for my own explorations to sacred sites. Through your sharing I have learned how to recognize stone tools,grinding slicks and anvils. This episode really highlights what you can find hiding in plain sight when you have eyes to see, and clearly you are in “right relationship” to the spirits of the land! This is a particularly interesting episode.

Alex a great overview of the Yokut village site, based on the exposed artifacts that you found, I would say the site is about 3000 years of age! From your friend, Mike.

I seen that reservoir when it was completely full on a bright night with a full moon going into the valley from Salinas once it looked like a ocean an amazing sight

Thanks for watching. Surprisingly, the ground level soil returned to its natural condition which enabled us to find the village site. Often times the bottom becomes silted up and the past becomes completely lost......alex

@@guyfawkesmulder1814 - Hello. I'm not Alex but I have a suggestion for you. To see one of the best bedrock mortar locations in California, please take the time to visit Indian Grinding Rock State Park. It is close to Stockton and is really quite interesting. Time your visit with one of their events for an even better experience. www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=553

Alex, I love your videos, your enthusiasm is inspiring. The only criticism I have is that you say ‘Ancient’ a lot, referring to ‘ancient’ people and objects. Keep in mind many of the places you visit, especially in California, were inhabited not 200 years ago. And the descendants of the people from the places you show such passion for, still live in the area.

storiesbyalex or just mention it sometimes in your vids. A lot of folks get their information about native cultures from you, and it’s weird to hear your people and culture being spoken of in past tense... we are here and proud of these places and things that belong to our grandparents, and I’m truly glad you take the time to learn the history and teach us.

When you pick up that “fish slapper” @3:31 it seems strange, all the other small rocks around it have sunk, imbedded in the ground. And the large fish slapper is right on top of the ground.

Seeing the land through the lens of being able to see the big picture and asking yourself 'what was it like when a stream flowed through here? Where would I build a village and how much rock am I going to have to move?' The hand of man is everywhere if we can see the land.

This would be a good educational video on PBS for learning at home. Geography geology history all well explained. Even a section of ecology. This would be great on any SW pbs channel like KRWG out of Las Cruces. They're doing a considerable job of good educational tv for frankly anybody who likes to learn. Besides the education situation due to the pandemic. Just an idea...

@storiesbyalex 7 лет назад
Hello Tuledude, the area I trekked to was on State land. Also, in an area below the actual dam there is a body of water called O'Neil Forebay where we found additional mortars and a village site containing house pits and Datura plants which was used by some Native American cultures in religious ceremonies.. I was thinking of also including that in the video, but in the end I decided to present a shorter segment...........Alex
