+Vincent Paterson This is a wonderful biography for kids. I like how it was released the year of his 90th birthday. Did you work personally with people like Audrey Geisel? How involved was she on the project?
@vlpla1
@vlpla1 8 лет назад
+654zns Audrey was delightful. She was so helpful and gave us access to anything we wanted...unlike the cat in the hat in the story. We included her in our decisions and she was very supportive.

Obviously a great deal of effort was put into this film and you guys did a fantastic job. I remember the first time I saw this and being blown away by how it told Geisel's life story. It was the very first time I had learned about his work outside of children's books including his work in advertising and WW2 political cartoons. It was especially delightful how many innuendos were used here, such as Matt Frewer wearing a hat in the opening from "The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T" to the secret paintings, taxidermy and commercial toys and merchandise surrounding Geisel's office. I used to watch it repeatedly trying to see some of the stuff in the background and what they were from. This film was the main reason I fell in love with Geisel's work.

I doubt you'll see this, but can I ask why Matt Frewer sounds so much like Jim Carrey? Was he originally intended for the role, but couldn't make it and Matt just wanted to implement his voice as much as possible for peak quirkiness. Originally I thought that the Jim Carrey voice was a tip of the hat to his previous roles in Dr. Suess, but then I realized that this movie came out a good 6 years before Jim Carrey played the Grinch and a good 14 years before he played Horton. I know this was a stupid comment I was just genuinely interested. 😅

I was a construction assistant! Kathy Nijimy gave the crew thoughtful presents. It was my first job in the movies. We were at Canyon Country studios and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis where filming True Lies in the sound stage next door. I got to see her, but every time Arnold appeared I was busy carrying a wall! Never saw him. Lol Oh and the breakfast that Craft Services put on was AMAZING!

Fun Fact: Before he died Dr. Seuss said these last words "Yes. I'm not going to die tomorrow." He was right; his spirit is kept alive in the hearts and minds of the children who (today and many years to come) read, enjoyed, and will continue to be inspired by his imaginative and mind opening stories. R.I.P Theodore Geisel, and thank you for all the "Thinks" you've inspired and encouraged us to think.

It was perfect, but He did it quite consciously, He wanted to give children a look of highs and downs of the life cause He had been trough that already, and that the life is still awesome despite that. Believe it or not this was the first documentary I’ve ever watched at just age 5, and also my first time learning about not just Dr. Seuss the author’s life but also my first education about the horrors of World War II, the Nazis and Adolf Hitler. Yes, it’s way more unsettling as an adult but this documentary ingeniously incorporated the education of it all in a way that’s not too much nightmare-fuel for the little kids who are curious to watch this thing. But seriously, I love the hell out of this documentary. It translates the world of Dr. Seuss into live-action and feature-length film MILES above ANY of the movie adaptations that came after, everyone’s acting was spot on and exactly in spirit of the original books, it tells an original story in spite of it being a documentary, the songs just slap, the abridged versions of the animated Seuss specials are a joy to see and it’s inspirational for any artist or storyteller to see just what Dr. Seuss went through in his life to be so successful and beloved, and that they can achieve that too. I think the only Seuss work that comes this close in spirit is Seussical, but nonetheless, that and In Search of Dr. Seuss are ultimately the definitive pinnacles of celebrating the life of arguably the greatest children’s author who ever lived.

My parents borrowed this from the library when I was 5 years old. It stuck in my mind like a fever dream. I would hum the tune of the intro for years to come but forget where it originated.

Frank Welker's portrayal of Mayzie literally sounds like a mix of Elmo and a Looney Tunes character (ironic)

My family had a dvd of Horton Hears a Who (the 2D animated one) and it had this in the bonus features. We watched this more than the actual animation that was featured. I haven’t seen it in years. I’m an illustration student in college now.

I actually saw this a few times on TV around the mid 1990’s along with Mother Goose Rock N’ Rhyme. My mom finally got around to recording both TV movies on a VHS. The commercials make the VHS a time capsule as well. Gotta love that Mentos wedding commercial 😂
